Book excerpt: While most financial and investment advice focuses on recent trends, or encourages consumers to buy a favoured product, this book breaks the mould, offering eternal wisdom that draws on years of expensive failures and enviable successes. Following on from the success of James Skakoon's The Unwritten Laws of Business (27,000 copies sold to date), this approachable but thoughtful gem brings together these useful lessons for the first time. Covering everything from reminders of the simplest of truths – 'Patience is a virtue' and 'Better safe than sorry' – to the more troublesome – 'Inflation is the stealthiest of enemies' and 'Guarantees are rarely guaranteed' - each law is presented in an accessible, easily digestible manner, and illustrated with examples. This is essential reading for savers and investors, novices and old hands – and these laws are applicable all around the world.

Book excerpt: Romance & Finance is the story of Goldash, a pleasant poet and ambidextrous snooker player, who meets his dream lady, Oya, a medical doctor and medical psychic, purely by chance in a bookshop whilst studying in London. Oya and Goldash have a very special, loving relationship. Their extraordinary love affair is ended by tragedy after just twenty-one months, and his life falls apart. After that, when he gives up on everything and lets himself go, Mili, a psychic and doctor of finance, comes into his life. He has a new beginning and works hard to bring rhythm and rhyme to his life to become a prosperous poet. This novel is based on a true story of a man coming to terms with having to rebuild his life from scratch. It shows how he copes with the comedies and tragedies presented to him as he slowly but surely moves onwards and upwards. The story tells of the remarkable people he meets on the long, lonely road to becoming a happy and wealthy man, and how they all help and support him in his endeavour to achieve the goal he has set himself. It tells a very honest story that will touch the hearts of readers and listeners from all walks of life, and will make them both laugh and cry before they reach the end.
Book Synopsis Bible Study for Busy Pastors and Ministers, Volume 2 by : Reginald F. Davis
Download or read book Bible Study for Busy Pastors and Ministers, Volume 2 written by Reginald F. Davis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-27 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastors and ministers have one of the most challenging jobs on earth. Of all their tasks, one responsibility they cannot neglect is teaching the word of God. Unfortunately, church leaders seldom have enough time to prepare Bible studies for their congregations. This book is a quick resource to help fill the gap. These thematically arranged Bible studies each contain an introduction to a topic and a list of relevant Scripture readings for that topic. Pastors can use the introduction to spark discussion within small groups or to focus on the specific themes during sermon writing. Many have stated that Volume 1 is a great resource, and it is my prayer that Volume 2 is a great resource as well. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, . . . teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matt 28:19-20).

Download or read book Capital Rules written by Rawi Abdelal and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-09-30 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The rise of global financial markets in the last decades of the twentieth century was premised on one fundamental idea: that capital ought to flow across country borders with minimal restriction and regulation. Freedom for capital movements became the new orthodoxy. In an intellectual, legal, and political history of financial globalization, Rawi Abdelal shows that this was not always the case. Transactions routinely executed by bankers, managers, and investors during the 1990s—trading foreign stocks and bonds, borrowing in foreign currencies—had been illegal in many countries only decades, and sometimes just a year or two, earlier. How and why did the world shift from an orthodoxy of free capital movements in 1914 to an orthodoxy of capital controls in 1944 and then back again by 1994? How have such standards of appropriate behavior been codified and transmitted internationally? Contrary to conventional accounts, Abdelal argues that neither the U.S. Treasury nor Wall Street bankers have preferred or promoted multilateral, liberal rules for global finance. Instead, European policy makers conceived and promoted the liberal rules that compose the international financial architecture. Whereas U.S. policy makers have tended to embrace unilateral, ad hoc globalization, French and European policy makers have promoted a rule-based, “managed” globalization. This contest over the character of globalization continues today."
