Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of Odgaard Møller's book is threefold: The first main section seeks to clarify how and why Jesus is presented in the pre-1968 writings of the Danish theologian and philosopher K.E. Løgstrup (1905–1981). Throughout his work, Løgstrup's main focus has been a rehabilitation of the insight that life is something definite, because it is created. Here, Jesus primarily plays a methodological/strategic role as the one confirming and giving witness to Løgstrup's interpretation of created life in a given time of his authorship. When faith in creation is formulated polemically against another interpretation of life, Jesus serves as Løgstrup's ally in this discussion. In the second main section, this examination is extrapolated to include a discussion with Bultmann and two of his students in order to clarify the character of his Christology, not least whether – or in what way – this can be characterised as "implicit Christology". Finally, in the light of Ricoeur's hermeneutic philosophy of religion, the third main section considers the systematic-theological validity of this picture of Jesus. The overall conclusion can be summed up in this way: The main line in Løgstrup's work goes from created life to the human being Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus incarnates created life; therefore he is the true human being. This close connection between (created) Life and (true) Human Being is the kernel in Løgstrup's thought. This makes his perception of Jesus and his Christology distinctive, original and specifically Løgstrupian.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Handbook for Creating Functional Human Culture!!!... How do you explain to a fish that's swum in the same water its whole life; realizes something just doesn't seem quite right, but doesn't know what it is or why, that the water itself is polluted and poisoning her? How can a desire be created in that fish to do what it really needs to do in order to scratch this ineffable itch -- which is not to find more fish to hunt, bigger fins, a nicer cave to sleep in, or make more offspring -- but in fact is to remove itself from this water and get into clean water, because the actual context it lives in IS the primary source of its dis-ease? Just like this fish, we've been "swimming" in cultures and families for generations that make it impossible to enjoy True Human Freedom. We've been conditioned to be content with "false human freedom" and not live our full potential as individuals, families, or communities. With all my heart, I ask you to explore the vision and teaching in my book True Human Freedom: The Inspiration and Argument for GaiaYoga Culture. I believe it points to the "something" that many of us have been yearning for, but haven't had the support or clarity to recognize and then take action towards. True Human Freedom is possible, but to pursue it we must leave this "polluted water" (internally and externally), and also change the way we swim, and perhaps who we swim with. It is possible! Let me explain... True Human Freedom isn't another cliché spiritual or utopian manifesto. It's a radical, holistic meditation on our total human condition... How does our culture impact our lives and consciousness? Can we develop keen discrimination about the mutitude of diverse cultural experiments that have arisen on our planet? Based on this clarity, can we design and co-create a new culture that is grounded in our real and natural limits, yet supports the full expression of our humanity? Can we realize our amazing potential, sustainably, together, in reality? We can! GaiaYoga is a holistic cultural vision, life-practice, and consciousness, that lets us re-create our lives so they are sane, sustainable, and in harmony with Spirit, self, community, and Earth. More than an individual's practice, GaiaYoga includes living in social structures that reflect our true human nature. It's an antidote for the predominant (in)human culture based on unchecked capitalism, fantasy, dysfunctional family-systems, absence of integrity, emotional illiteracy, fear and oppression ofnature, chemical dependence, and broken relationships."After reading True Human Freedom, I feel awakened. I've been given the gift of awareness... awareness of what I've blindly accepted as true, unquestionable, and universal. I've also been given the gift of inspiration... a new, beautiful, hopeful vision of what our future can look like. Ano's arguments connect with me on a deep and authentic level -- no surprise, because they are based on an unapologetic, real, holistic view of our instincts, desires, genetic makeup, spirituality, and primal social needs as human beings." -- Julia Sokolyansky, Dancer/Choreographer and Graduate of Landmark Curriculum for Living, NYC

Book excerpt: This is a philosophical book about the idea of human freedom in the context of Chinese philosophy on truth, the good, and beauty. The book shows that there is a coherent and sophisticated philosophical discourse on human freedom throughout the history of Chinese Philosophy in aesthetics, ethics, and epistemology. Feng Qi discusses the development of freedom in light of the Marxist theory of practice. In the history of philosophy, the relation between thought and existence, which is fundamental to philosophy, has stimulated many debates. These debates, though they have assumed diverse forms in Chinese and Western philosophy, have eventually concentrated on three inquiries: the natural world (the objective material world); the human mind; and the concepts, categories, and laws that are representative forms of nature in the human mind and in knowledge. In Chinese philosophy, the three inquiries are summarized using three notions: qi (气 breath, spirit), xin (心 heart), dao (道 the Way). What relationship do the three notions have with each other? This book explores the way to human freedom through the divergent paths in Chinese philosophy. This book’s investigation of human activities brings the typical Chinese philosophical discourse from the cosmological realm into the realm of human beings as individuals. In this regard, the three inquiries can be described as being about real life, ideals, and individuals.

Book excerpt: A radically new cosmological view from a groundbreaking neuroscientist placing the human brain at the center of humanity’s universe Renowned neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis introduces readers to a revolutionary new theory of how the human brain evolved to become an organic computer without rival in the known universe. Nicolelis undertakes the first attempt to explain the entirety of human history, culture, and civilization based on a series of recently uncovered key principles of brain function. This new cosmology is centered around three fundamental properties of the human brain: its insurmountable malleability to adapt and learn; its exquisite ability to allow multiple individuals to synchronize their minds around a task, goal, or belief; and its incomparable capacity for abstraction. Combining insights from such diverse fields as neuroscience, mathematics, evolution, computer science, physics, history, art, and philosophy, Nicolelis presents a neurobiologically based manifesto for the uniqueness of the human mind and a cautionary tale of the threats that technology poses to present and future generations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of a four-volume groundbreaking study of Christological origins. The fruit of twenty years research, Jesus Monotheism lays out a new paradigm that goes beyond the now widely held view that Paul and others held to an unprecedented "Christological monotheism." There was already, in Second Temple Judaism and in the Bible, a kind of "christological monotheism." But it is first with Jesus and his followers that a human figure is included in the identity of the one God as a fully divine person. Volume 1 lays out the arguments of an emerging consensus, championed by Larry Hurtado and Richard Bauckham, that from its Jewish beginnings the Christian community had a high Christology and worshipped Jesus as a divine figure. New data is adduced to support that case. But there are weaknesses in the emerging consensus. For example, it underplays the incarnation and does not convincingly explain what caused the earliest Christology. The recent study of Adam traditions, the findings of Enoch literature specialists, and of those who have explored a Jewish and Christian debt to Greco-Roman Ruler Cult traditions, all point towards a fresh approach to both the origins and shape of the earliest divine Christology.

Book excerpt: It is essential to understand the origin, meaning, and use of the term "Son of Man" if the Gospels are to be intelligently interpreted, but no phrase has in recent years caused so much scholarly debate and division of opinion. Dr Hooker studies the term and concepts associated with it in the Old Testament, in I Enoch, and in other inter-testamental literature, and then examines the Marcan occurrences in the context of the Gospel as a whole, finding a coherent pattern throughout, in term of which each occurrence has its proper relevance. The book thus offers a challenge to the present trend of interpretation which has recently been strengthened by the studies of A. J. B. Higgins and H. E. Tödt, but its conclusions are reached without conservative presuppositions, and with a thorough study of the evidence. The importance of this book for New Testament studies is assured. --

Evolution is a farce." •"God's existence is proven by the Bible.” •"Hitler and Stalin were Atheists and look at what happened!" These are but a few of the comments you may hear from people who have faith in a god. We depart on a guided thought experiment to understand how religion came to be, why religion has been a mainstay in modernity and what armamentarium to use in our fight against religious zealots. If you are a theist, the purpose of this book is to reason you out of something you had no reason to believe in the first place. If you are already on the fence, I look to burn down that structure. As I plant the flag for all to see, we will journey through fables, morality, science, and sin and verify if religion can, in fact, be eradicated. Born in Brentwood, NY, Orlando Rodriguez has moved many times since his childhood. He settled down in Manhattan in 2002. In what can only be described as love at first sight, he met and married his wife in 2003 and has three children. After living in Manhattan for several years, they all moved to Freehold, NJ, where they enjoy the relaxed life on weekends. Orlando’s hobbies include astronomy, working out, playing the guitar and the violin. The True Nature Of Human Nature Is Orlando’s first published work. Our spiritual and religious life is no different. Spiritual awakening is also managed by laws in nature. On every level of existence, there are basic facts that manage creation, development, decay, and death. Our consciousness or soul is no exception to these facts, and by knowing about them, we can achieve our complete development as a human being. Samael Aun Weor explains the fundamental laws and energies that we need to consciously harness in order to reach our full potential. These are the same energies that fuel the creation of any organism, from the smallest atom to the most expansive universe. The human being is called to be a radiant king or queen of nature, but to arrive at that level, one must know how.

Book excerpt: ***A SUNDAY TIMES AND INDEPENDENT BOOK OF THE YEAR AND INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*** The bestselling author of Everything Happens for a Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved) asks, how do you move forward with a life you didn't choose? Hailed by Glennon Doyle as 'the Christian Joan Didion', Kate Bowler used to accept the modern idea that life is an endless horizon of possibilities, a series of choices which if made correctly, would lead us to a place just out of our reach. A beach body by summer. A trip to Disneyland around the corner. A promotion on the horizon. But then at thirty-five she was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, and now she has to ask one of the most fundamental questions of all: How do we create meaning in our lives when the life we hoped for is put on hold indefinitely? In No Cure for Being Human, Kate searches for a way forward as she mines the wisdom (and absurdity) of our modern 'best life now' advice industry, which offers us exhausting positivity, trying to convince us that we can out-eat, out-learn and out-perform our humanness. With dry wit and unflinching honesty she grapples with her cancer diagnosis, her ambition and her faith and searches for some kind of peace with her limitations in a culture that says that anything is possible. Frank and funny, dark and wise, Kate's irreverent, hard-won observations in No Cure For Being Human chart a bold path towards learning new ways to live.
