He is discovered by Ike Eisenhower and eventually enlists in the Army to block bullets for Elvis Presley. After majoring in substance abuse counseling at DePaul University, he saves Clapton, Monroe, Hendrix, Morrison, Garcia, Densmore, Moon, Townshend, and Richards from destroying themselves. After serving in the Army, Joey becomes the bodyguard for JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X, and John Lennon, preventing all of their assassinations and changing the course of history. Joey and his wife both write Pulitzer Prize winning works and begin working for Rolling Stone Magazine, through which they interview legends of Hollywood, music, sports, and civil rights. Eventually they start their own magazine. The culmination of the novel shows how Joey is able to overcome his bipolar disorder to live a full life and valuably contribute to society."--Back cover
Book Synopsis Memoirs of a Bipolar Ex-Podiatrist by : Jonathan Perry Stern
Download or read book Memoirs of a Bipolar Ex-Podiatrist written by Jonathan Perry Stern and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memoirs of a Bipolar Ex-Podiatrist has been written to provide hope for other bipolar people. Have you ever wondered who you are and/or why you behave the way you do? The author wondered that for 35 years until he was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (BPD). The author was happy to finally have an identity, it also explained his racing thoughts, dramatic mood swings, impulsiveness, impatience, eagerness to be "class clown," and innate intelligence for subjects most lack interest in. The author started to study about fellow bipolars (Patty Duke, Hemingway, Poe, Lincoln, Van Gogh, and Hendrix) and noticed creative faculties conflicted with logical faculties. Hence, he pursued his dreams of writing a poetry anthology, a historical fantasy fiction novel about BPD, and a well-researched, self-help memoir about BPD. The author has overcome an abusive father and others, bankruptcy, and divorce to continually strive for excellence in relationships and career success. He has constantly tried to educate others on how they can overcome any disorder by having faith in a higher power, eating right, exercising, being compliant with their medication regimen, and learning from competent psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Also, surrounding yourself with positive and uplifting people is essential.

Book Synopsis Hollywood Highbrow by : Shyon Baumann
Download or read book Hollywood Highbrow written by Shyon Baumann and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.

Over 70 contributions discuss topics that include the visual appearance and the imitation of one material by another; stable protective coatings and materials stability; resource surveying, source characterization, and cultural implications; and process reconstruction as essential to understanding of condition and conservation. Never before, and never since, have so many African-American performers been featured in films, not in bit parts, but in name-above-the title starring roles. Here's a new and appreciative look back at a distinctly American motion picture phenomenon, the first truly comprehensive examination of the genre, its films, its trends and its far-reaching impact, covering more than 240 Blaxploitation films in detail. This is the primary reference book on the genre, covering not just the films' heyday (1971-1976) but the entire decade (1970-1980). Includes: film posters and ads

Download or read book Final Demands written by Frederic Raphael and published by Aurum. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frederic Raphael's The Glittering Prizes and its sequel, Fame and Fortune, were widely acclaimed for their dazzling and moving portrait of an era and a generation. Now, in Final Demands, the culminating volume in the trilogy, writer Adam Morris and his high-flying Cambridge contemporaries find themselves at the peak of influence and success as New Labour and the Blair boom years take them high on the slippery pole of success. At the same time, they begin to fear the moment when seniority will render them superfluous. Adam, as astringent as ever, continues to stand centre stage, but his other contemporaries too play their vivid and energetic parts. Alan Parks still commands the nation's screens and microphones; movie director Mike Clode continues to pursue the bitch goddess Success; Joyce Hadleigh realises an unlikely ambition when she becomes 'joined at the hype' with Samuel Marcus Cohen, English literature's Nobel laureate-in-waiting. The younger generation too is growing into unpredictable potency. When he accepts a teaching gig In Los Angeles, Adam finds himself confronting his beautiful daughter Rachel's complex emotional life. And then, back in London, on Boxing Day, he learns that his son Tom's wife, Juliana - granddaughter of a Nazi business man - has come to a startling decision. When he and Juliana call to deliver a belated Christmas present to the film producer Bruno Laszlo, comedy and tragedy collide in a cruelly comic climax.
