Book Synopsis The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment by : Jesus I. Diaz
Download or read book The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment written by Jesus I. Diaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the culmination of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment which was held at Puerto de la Cruz ,Tenerife, Spain during 11-21 January 1995. One of the main goals of the ASI was to establish a bridge between mathematical modellers on the one hand and physical oceanographers and climatologists on the other. The book is divided into fourth parts containing a total of 16 chapters: Parts I, II and III are devoted to general models and Part IV to models related to some local problems. Most of the mathematical models here considered involve systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. The mathemat ical treatment cover a large list of subjects: existence and uniqueness for well-possed problems, large time behaviour, stability, bifurcation, diagrams of equilibria, conditions for the occurrence of interfaces or free boundaries, numerical algorithms and its implementation, controllability of the problems, etc. I thank Jacques- Louis Lions and Cornelius Johannes van Duijn for their guidance and collaboration as co-directors of the AS!. I also thank J.F.Padial and G. Diaz for their help in the planning and conduct of the ASI as well as in the preparation of this book.

Book Synopsis Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Models by : J.C.J. Nihoul
Download or read book Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Models written by J.C.J. Nihoul and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1985-07-01 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exchange of momentum, heat, moisture, gases (such as CO2 and O2) and salt between the atmosphere and the ocean is a phenomenon of paramount importance for the dynamics of the atmosphere and the ocean. With the pressing need for reliable climate forecast (e.g. to deal with severe food and energy problems) interactive ocean-atmosphere models have become one of the main objectives of geophysical fluid dynamics. This volume provides the first state-of-the-art review of interactive ocean-atmosphere modelling and its application to climates. The papers are by active and eminent scientists from different countries and different disciplines. They provide a up-to-date survey of major recent discoveries and valuable recommendations for future research.

Book Synopsis Synoptic and Dynamic Climatology by : Roger G. Barry
Download or read book Synoptic and Dynamic Climatology written by Roger G. Barry and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synoptic and Dynamic Climatology provides the first comprehensive account of the dynamical behaviour and mechanisms of the global climate system and its components, together with a modern survey of synoptic-scale weather systems in the tropics and extratropics, and of the methods and applications of synoptic climate classification. It is unrivalled in the scope and detail of its contents. The work is thoroughly up to date, with extensive bibliographies by chapter. It is illustrated with nearly 300 figures and plates. *Part 1 provides an introduction to the global climate system and the space-time scales of weather and climate processes, followed by a chapter on climate data and their analysis *Part 2 describes and explains the characteristics of the general circulation of the global atmosphere and includes the nature and causes of global teleconnection patterns *Part 3 discusses synoptic weather systems in the extratropics and tropics and satellite-based climatologies of synoptic features. It also describes the applications of synoptic climatology and summarises current climatic research and its directions.

Book Synopsis Concepts of Ecosystem Ecology by : Lawrence R. Pomeroy
Download or read book Concepts of Ecosystem Ecology written by Lawrence R. Pomeroy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume 19 leading experts offer a timely and coherent overview of the fundamental principles of ecosystem science. They examine the flux of energy and biologically essential elements and their associated food webs in major terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, such as forests, grasslands, cultivated land, streams, coral reefs, and ocean basins. In each case, interactions between different eosystems, predictive models, and the application of ecosystem research to the management of natural resources are given special emphasis. A number of theoretical chapters provide a synthesis through critical discussion of current concepts of ecosystem energetics and dynamics.
