This clever book introduces young readers to some of the words we use to refer to animals in a group. The ink, watercolor, and fabric collage art is brightly colored and uniquely sets this fun book apart from the crowd. Each page presents information about an animal and its group behavior, such as how geese fly in a V-shape and honk to encourage the leaders, and that sometimes tens of thousand of flamingos meet up in one location. Young readers will have a great time and create a wellspring of new vocabulary words.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a Bible study some years ago, our teacher asked each one in the Bible study to write a lesson on any topic we chose and take turns, each doing one study per week. I chose the Twenty-Third Psalm. My information comes from scripture, online information, and Bible studies. At the time, I didn't know how much information could come from studying that one psalm. So the day came when it was my turn to present the information to the class. When Psalm 23 was read, some people cried because they saw how we, like sheep, are loved. God sings songs over my head, your head. We have no idea how much the Good Shepherd loves us and will do anything to keep us close to him even if it means discipline that hurts. But He disciplines those He loves. For instance, He takes his staff and uses its crook to pull back a sheep from a steep cliff. It hurts the sheep at the time but not so much as incurring cuts and bruises from falling down a steep hill. We, like sheep, go astray, thinking we are in control of our lives, but we are not. Once the Good Shepherd gets our attention, He takes care of us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the feasts from Passover to the Feast of Tabernacles have prophecies of God's plans for the world, embedded in the customs of these festivals that are known by only a few. Many of these revelations are quite shocking. You will be amazed as these mysteries are disclosed, step-by-step in these chapters. God wanted us to be taught His plans through all our senses. Get ready to be stunned as you discover the intricate detail of the descriptions of the prophecies illustrated in the observances of these feasts. You will definitely acquire greater insight into God's plan for the ages. “This book provides some wonderful insights into the prophetic significance of the Feasts of Israel. It will whet your appetite for the Old Testament and the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. And it will help you to better understand God's plan for the ages.” —Dr. David R. Reagan, President of Lamb & Lion Ministries. “For anyone who has discovered that the Torah is God’s message to mankind, Michael Norten’s fine work will unlock important insights. His careful research will provide the reader with practical and life-enhancing facts about the feasts. Unlocking the Secrets of the Feasts is an important contribution to those many Christians who turn to the Torah for a glimpse into the mind of God.” —Rabbi Daniel Lapin, President of The American Alliance of Jews and Christians. “Michael Norten's study of Israel's annual feasts is well researched. He shows how four of the seven feasts are paralleled with past events as seen in the New Testament and how three are to be fulfilled in the future. Well written. —Dr. Stanley D. Toussaint, Senior Professor Emeritus of Biblical Exposition, Dallas Theological Seminary

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this masterful commentary, respected biblical scholar Bruce Waltke carefully interprets the message of the prophet Micah, building a bridge between Micah's ancient world and our life today. Waltke's Commentary on Micah quickly distinguishes itself from other commentaries on this book by displaying an unprecedented exegetical thoroughness, an expert understanding of historical context, and a keen interest in illuminating the contribution of Micah to Christian theology. Tackling hard questions about date and authorship, Waltke contends that Micah himself wrote and edited the nineteen sermons comprising the book. Waltke's clear analytical outline leads readers through the three cycles of Micah, each beginning with an oracle of doom and ending with an oracle of hope, decisively showing that hope wins over doom. Learned yet amazingly accessible, combining scholarly erudition with passion for Micah's contemporary relevance, this book will well serve teachers, pastors, and students alike.

Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling author of H is for Hawk explores the human relationship to the natural world in this “dazzling” essay collection (Wall Street Journal). In Vesper Flights, Helen Macdonald brings together a collection of her best loved essays, along with new pieces on topics ranging from nostalgia for a vanishing countryside to the tribulations of farming ostriches to her own private vespers while trying to fall asleep. Meditating on notions of captivity and freedom, immigration and flight, Helen invites us into her most intimate experiences: observing the massive migration of songbirds from the top of the Empire State Building, watching tens of thousands of cranes in Hungary, seeking the last golden orioles in Suffolk’s poplar forests. She writes with heart-tugging clarity about wild boar, swifts, mushroom hunting, migraines, the strangeness of birds’ nests, and the unexpected guidance and comfort we find when watching wildlife.

Jonathan Kaufman tells the remarkable history of how these families ignited an economic boom and opened China to the world, but remained blind to the country's deep inequality and to the political turmoil on their doorsteps. In a story stretching from Baghdad to Hong Kong to Shanghai to London, Kaufman enters the lives and minds of these ambitious men and women to forge a tale of opium smuggling, family rivalry, political intrigue, and survival.

All the animals are sure they have the answer. The chicken wants to talk it out, but Taylor doesn't feel like chatting. The bear thinks Taylor should get angry, but that's not quite right either. One by one, the animals try to tell Taylor how to act, and one by one they fail to offer comfort. Then the rabbit arrives. All the rabbit does is listen . . . which is just what Taylor needs. With its spare, poignant text and irresistibly sweet illustration, The Rabbit Listened is about how to comfort and heal the people in your life, by taking the time to carefully, lovingly, gently listen.

Book excerpt: "Just because you're set apart doesn't mean you're set aside." Martha McLaughlin and her husband served as international missionaries for 10 years, ministering in a variety of ways, including helping to identify unreached people groups. When her physical breakdown forced them to return to the USA, she feared it was the end of her missionary journey. But instead, God told her, "Just because you're set apart doesn't mean you're set aside." Today Martha feels called to try to help a different kind of unreached people group: the isolated sufferers of toxic illness, a growing but largely invisible population. Yet, like the canaries once used in coal mines to detect poisonous gases, they are a wake-up call to the effects of the thousands of chemicals used daily in our modern society. Expertly researched and written, Chemicals and Christians: Compassion and Caution is loaded with valuable information and biblical counsel for hope and avoiding harm in our increasingly chemicalized environment. It provides steps for biblical health management, offers practical resources, and shows Christians ways to help. "Using safe approaches regarding chemicals is not only Christian but is also good sense." --Dr. Grace Ziem, MD, MPH Johns Hopkins, MSc and DRPH Harvard.
