It could be the story of any number of real people, and indeed, it just may be... Da' has gone to India with the Army, leaving Ma to fend for the children. Jim is a good strong lad, but gets into trouble; Katie works in the big house, where the master ruthlessly takes advantage of her youthful beauty; and poor young Mick contracts tuberculosis. The family must face and conquer these trials, and there is one thing that helps to strengthen their tortured hearts in these, their darkest hours - their love and kinship, and their faith. A gritty, yet life-affirming tale of the triumph of the human spirit and kindness over grinding poverty and seemingly insurmountable odds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My collection is a personal story written in prose. My story is unique but also quite common. I've crushed the hearts of women who have loved me and I've turned my back on soul mates, thinking I could've done better. I've done the wrong things in regards to love for so long now, that I've finally accepted the fact that this is how it will always be. Some of us are destined to be single forever, so I'll just accept it because for me; I certainly know who the problem is. It should be said however, that through the abuse, the years of anger, the drunken madness and the insanity; I'm eternally grateful to all the women who have loved me and/or tried to love me. It's very true that having relationships with others, primarily teaches us about ourselves. I remember I first started writing poetry in junior high school calligraphy class. I loved that class and the teacher was one of those cool adults who played LP's on his fold-up phonograph players during the class. I needed to practice my italic handwriting and poetry and lyrics from music were already inside of me, waiting to come out. Like music, writing became an outlet for me along with becoming a friend. I know my poetry is not that brilliant. I know technically, it would never win any kind of a contest. And I also know it's the same thing over and over again. But there's something inside of me that wants to do this. You can call it a bucket list item which has nothing to do with money or personal fame. It's part of who I am and this collection is part of my story. And it's one of those things that if I don't do it now, I'll regret it forever. My personal thanks to Richard Bach who wrote Illusions, a book that changed my life and gave me hope when I was young, angry and lost. And thank you from the heavens to John Lennon, who always kept it simple and made it all about love, because it is.

Book excerpt: Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte Southworth (1819-1899) was an American writer of more than 60 novels in the latter part of the 19th century. She was probably the most widely read author of that era. Southworth's first story, The Irish Refugee, was published in the Baltimore Saturday Visitor. Some of her earliest works appeared in The National Era, the newspaper that printed Uncle Tom's Cabin. The bulk of her work appeared as a serial in Robert Bonner's The New York Ledger, which was widely read in the 1850s and 1860s. Her first novel, Retribution, a serial for the National Era, published in book form in 1846, was so well received that she gave up teaching and became a regular contributor to various periodicals, especially the New York Ledger. Her best known work was The Hidden Hand. It first appeared in serial form in the New York Ledger in 1859, and was serialized twice more (1868-69, 1883) before first appearing in book form in 1888. Most of her novels deal with the Southern United States during the post-American Civil War era.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of time; sometimes some peoples chose to write about their life experiences. In these works, I have just done that but in a form of Poetry because Love is the Stranger. Who disagrees should go on and write their version of stories about me, is their prerogative! I have been discredited by those strangers that think that they hold the powers, but I have stated the facts of the matters. The things that I heard them say about my daughter and me, but I do not possess the powers to rectify the mistakes; that have been made! As we lead our lives, we all make mistakes daily; because we are all humans and we are all fallible. Due to all that have gone on, so many times I cried myself to bed. In my darkest hours; I was consoled by my Wonderful Daughter! Instead of being the Child, She grew up faster and became the shoulders to cry on and so; I dedicate the entirety of these works to my late daughter's foundation; "FOUNDATION IN MEMORIES OF ADA-EMILA RUTH VALMORI Bsc.Hons" "BECAUSE THESE HONOURS ARE YOURS AND MUST REMAIN YOURS ALONE TILL THE END OF TIME"! To her Father; the Kindest Man truly with a heart of gold, the kindest Man on Earth of whom without; I probably would not have been here today. The Man who brought up his Stepson with the Kindest Heart as he would bring up His Own Natural Child, and To My Grandson! To another Man, a wonderful Person of whom without; we would have been homeless for much longer than necessary! He who saw that wrong was done and asked that things should be put right! To those freedom fighters of yester years, and those of today! To they who fight for the rights of the weak due to injustices in our World. To All the Descendants of Immigrants the World Over, those from the beginning of time, since Humankind, because they were the courageous pioneers; who set the pace that some of us followed! To those who have travelled abroad to cure their Child. To those that believe in Fairness and those who believe in Kindness. To those who believe in Love. To the Just Women and the Just Men of This Our Great Universe! R. I. IYEMERE.
Book Synopsis Akbar the Great Mogul, 1542-1605 by : Vincent Arthur Smith
Download or read book Akbar the Great Mogul, 1542-1605 written by Vincent Arthur Smith and published by . This book was released on 1917 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Akbar the Great Mogul, 1542-1605 is a biography of Akbar I (reigned, 1556-1605), the third and greatest of the Mughal emperors of India. The author, Vincent Arthur Smith, was an Irish-born historian and antiquary who served in the Indian Civil Service before turning to full-time research and scholarship. After assuming the throne while still a youth, Akbar succeeded in consolidating and enlarging the Mughal Empire. He instituted reforms of the tax structure, the organization and control of the military, and the religious establishment and its relationship to the state. He was also a patron of culture and the arts, and he had a keen interest in religion and the possible sources of religious knowledge. The book traces Akbar's ancestry and early years; his accession to the throne and his regency under Bayram Khan; his many conquests, including Bihar, the Afghan kingdom of Bengal, Malwa, Gujarat, Kashmir, Sind, parts of Orissa, and parts of the Deccan Plateau; and his annexation of other territories through diplomacy, including Baluchistan and Kandahar. The book devotes considerable attention to Akbar's religious beliefs and interests. On several occasions Akbar requested that the Portuguese authorities in Goa send priests to his court to teach him about Christianity, and the book recounts the stories of the three Jesuit missions organized in response to these requests. By origin a Sunni Muslim, Akbar also sought to learn from Shiʻite scholars, Sufi mystics, and Hindus, Jains, and Parsis. The last four chapters of the book are not chronological but deal with the Akbar's personal characteristics, civil and military institutions in the empire, the social and economic conditions of the people, and literature and art. The book contains a detailed chronology of the life and reign of Akbar and an annotated bibliography. Also included are maps and illustrations. Maps of India in 1561 and India in 1605 show the extent of Akbar's conquests, and sketch maps illustrate his main military campaigns.
