Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in a strict Southern Baptist community can be challenging for a child whose sexuality is considered a sin. In The Thousand-Petaled Lotus: Growing Up Gay in the Southern Baptist Church, Michael Fields takes readers on a hilarious and thought-provoking journey through his Nashville childhood, one filled with Southern characters, sexual awakening, anguished prayer, and an exhilarating search for truth. In the Hindu tradition, the thousand-petaled lotus is the saharara chakra at the top of the head, which blossoms at the moment of enlightenment. The Thousand-Petaled Lotus is structured as just that, a lotus of many petals unfolding. Fields' journey to reconcile his faith with his sexuality is a captivating story that blossoms when he finds what Jesus called "the kingdom of heaven" and sees that it is here now. The Thousand-Petaled Lotus is a rare story of personal and spiritual discovery, complete with metaphysical reflections, droll wit, and storytelling full of Southern charm

Book excerpt: In "Chakra Therapy" by Keith Sherwood you will learn that the chakras are more than colored areas in your aura. They function as distribution centers for the energy that flows through your body. If they''re blocked, the energy doesn''t flow and mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual problems can result. But you can clear the blockages and overcome the problems quickly and easily with the powerful yet simple techniques in this book. You will learn how each chakra functions. Yes, the book explains this for your mind, but for your deepest, inner self - what Sherwood calls your I AM - you have to learn through intuition and true understanding. In order to accomplish this, "Chakra Therapy "includes meditations for each of the chakras. Even if you have studied the chakras for years, practicing these meditations will help you understand them on a deeper level than ever before. Once you understand them you can clear them of blockages. This is the real "Chakra Therapy." It begins with three simple exercises called locks, which can be performed lying down or sitting in a chair. When the energy starts to flow, you will need to know how to open and balance the chakras. The book covers this, too. Then there is nothing to stop you. You''ll discover the techniques for cleansing the chakras and working with energy through simple yoga methods and breathwork that will bring you to a healthier, more energetic, and more balanced state than ever before. If you are ready to change your life for better health and happiness, get "Chakra Therapy" today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historical shift from Vedic traditions to post-Vedic bhakti (devotional) traditions is accompanied by a shift from abstract, translocal notions of divinity to particularized, localized notions of divinity and a corresponding shift from aniconic to iconic traditions and from temporary sacrificial arenas to established temple sites. In Bhakti and Embodiment Barbara Holdrege argues that the various transformations that characterize this historical shift are a direct consequence of newly emerging discourses of the body in bhakti traditions in which constructions of divine embodiment proliferate, celebrating the notion that a deity, while remaining translocal, can appear in manifold corporeal forms in different times and different localities on different planes of existence. Holdrege suggests that an exploration of the connections between bhakti and embodiment is critical not only to illuminating the distinctive transformations that characterize the emergence of bhakti traditions but also to understanding the myriad forms that bhakti has historically assumed up to the present time. This study is concerned more specifically with the multileveled models of embodiment and systems of bodily practices through which divine bodies and devotional bodies are fashioned in Krsna bhakti traditions and focuses in particular on two case studies: the Bhagavata Purana, the consummate textual monument to Vaisnava bhakti, which expresses a distinctive form of passionate and ecstatic bhakti that is distinguished by its embodied nature; and the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition, an important bhakti tradition inspired by the Bengali leader Caitanya in the sixteenth century, which articulates a robust discourse of embodiment pertaining to the divine bodies of Krsna and the devotional bodies of Krsna bhaktas that is grounded in the canonical authority of the Bhagavata Purana.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With his expert teachings, philosophical insights, and pragmatic imagery, world-class yoga instructor Tias Little turns the anatomy of the physical body into a tool for navigating the subtle body If you spend considerable time doing yoga, you begin to see that it is about much more than just the body—the practice of yoga in fact reveals that the body is in no way separate from the psychospiritual forces that animate it. Here, Tias Little provides a way to understand these forces as they relate to an integrated yoga of body, mind, and spirit. He unites somatic concepts and wisdom teachings in this practical guide to the anatomy of the physical, mental, emotional, and subtle (or energetic) body. Little is a master teacher who offers us a guided tour of the body’s structure and physical anatomy, then uses this new structural awareness as the basis for exploring the subtle body. In a meaningful and pragmatic way, the book maps the connection between the body and the rich symbolism that pervades the yogic imagination, including the chakras, nadis, and koshas. Further, Little offers readers clear, insightful yoga, pranayama, and meditation exercises that apply these body-mind principles.

Book excerpt: Bill Gammill remembers what happened that quiet spring night: he remembers watching a colossal spaceship descend on a field where hundreds of people were waiting, and suddenly finding himself engaged in a baffling, exciting, otherworldly meeting, an off-world gathering of humans in "higher space." But was this just a wild dream, a hallucination, or does he remember because he truly was part of a fantastic, but very real, experience? This is what he remembers: On that wild night, that astonishing night, extraterrestrials related the fantastic but no less true history and destiny of the Earth and its inhabitants: the origins of human life on Earth, the existence of nonhuman life in the Pleiades and Sirius star systems, and the work of the legendary "Great White Brotherhood." To this day, Gammill still feels "on board" perpetually linked with this mysterious but exalted gathering of humans and aliens, a kind of galactic summit. It took him months to make some sense of his experience--the words, pictures, teachings, and the nature of the beings he encountered. The Gatheringcontains Gammill's original account of that experience and the revelations given to the gathering about humankind, its origins, its current possibilities and likely future--including the end times, the apocalypse, and our interaction with celestial beings. The information in this book is a wake-up call to our planet: The gathering is assembling and the future is now.

Book excerpt: Robert Powell uncovers a secret stream of wisdom that flows through the heart of Christianity --the feminine principle, known in Greek as "Sophia," the being of Holy Wisdom herself. This sacred embodiment, named in the Old Testament as the first living being made by God, has comforted and guided seekers of truth in every age and in every human culture. Powell surveys the wonders and teachings associated with this unacknowledged treasure of Christianity's mystical past --a stream running from the Greek philosophers and King Solomon through the cosmic visions of Hildegard von Bingen, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the relation of Sophia to Mary the mother of Christ. The Sophia Teachings provides accessible and informative insights into the being of Sophia --generally overlooked by modern, patriarchal Christianity and misinterpreted by new age and and other movements that often trivialize the meaning and purpose of this significant cosmic entity.
