Book Synopsis CRC Handbook of Thermoelectrics by : D.M. Rowe
Download or read book CRC Handbook of Thermoelectrics written by D.M. Rowe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoelectrics is the science and technology associated with thermoelectric converters, that is, the generation of electrical power by the Seebeck effect and refrigeration by the Peltier effect. Thermoelectric generators are being used in increasing numbers to provide electrical power in medical, military, and deep space applications where combinations of their desirable properties outweigh their relatively high cost and low generating efficiency. In recent years there also has been an increase in the requirement for thermoelectric coolers (Peltier devices) for use in infrared detectors and in optical communications. Information on thermoelectrics is not readily available as it is widely scattered throughout the literature. The Handbook centralizes this information in a convenient format under a single cover. Sixty of the world's foremost authorities on thermoelectrics have contributed to this Handbook. It is comprised of fifty-five chapters, a number of which contain previously unpublished material. The contents are arranged in eight sections: general principles and theoretical considerations, material preparation, measurement of thermoelectric properties, thermoelectric materials, thermoelectric generation, generator applications, thermoelectric refrigeration, and applications of thermoelectric cooling. The CRC Handbook of Thermoelectrics has a broad-based scope. It will interest researchers, technologists, and manufacturers, as well as students and the well-informed, non-specialist reader.
Book Synopsis A Text-Book on Crystal Physics by : W. A. Wooster
Download or read book A Text-Book on Crystal Physics written by W. A. Wooster and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-26 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1938, this textbook was primarily designed for university students to provide a solid grounding in the science of crystal physics. Previous knowledge of materials science is considered a prerequisite for the content as well as a solid understanding of physics, mathematics and crystallography. Throughout this book a two-fold purpose has been kept in view - 'to present the classical treatment of the physical properties of crystals in terms of tensor notation and also to indicate the lines of development of modern theoretical and experimental research'. Chapters are broad in scope, detailed and clearly written; chapter titles include, 'Conduction', 'Electric induction' and 'Elasticity'. Multiple diagrams are included throughout for reference. Encompassing the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the subject and its rapid scientific developments, this textbook will be of significant value to students of physics as well to anyone with an interest in crystallography, geology and the history of education.

Book Synopsis Experimental Thermodynamics by : B. Le Neindre
Download or read book Experimental Thermodynamics written by B. Le Neindre and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Thermodynamics, Volume II: Experimental Thermodynamics of Non-reacting Fluids focuses on experimental methods and procedures in the study of thermophysical properties of fluids. The selection first offers information on methods used in measuring thermodynamic properties and tests, including physical quantities and symbols for physical quantities, thermodynamic definitions, and definition of activities and related quantities. The text also describes reference materials for thermometric fixed points, temperature measurement under pressures, and pressure measurements. The publication takes a look at absolute measurement of volume and equation of state of gases at high temperatures and low or moderate temperatures. Discussions focus on volumes of cubes of fused silica, density of water, and methods of measuring pressure. The text also examines the compression of liquids and thermodynamic properties and velocity of sound, including thermodynamics of volume changes, weight methods, and adiabatic compression. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the thermophysical properties of fluids.
