Book Synopsis Molecular Symmetry and Spectroscopy by : Philip Bunker
Download or read book Molecular Symmetry and Spectroscopy written by Philip Bunker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Symmetry and Spectroscopy deals with the use of group theory in quantum mechanics in relation to problems in molecular spectroscopy. It discusses the use of the molecular symmetry group, whose elements consist of permutations of identical nuclei with or without inversion. After reviewing the permutation groups, inversion operation, point groups, and representation of groups, the book describes the use of representations for labeling molecular energy. The text explains an approximate time independent Schrödinger equation for a molecule, as well as the effect of a nuclear permutation or the inversion of E* on such equation. The book also examines the expression for the complete molecular Hamiltonian and the several groups of operations commuting with the Hamiltonian. The energy levels of the Hamiltonian can then be symmetrically labeled by the investigator using the irreducible representations of these groups. The text explains the two techniques to change coordinates in a Schrödinger equation, namely, (1) by using a diatomic molecule in the rovibronic Schrödinger equation, and (2) by a rigid nonlinear polyatomic molecule. The book also explains that using true symmetry, basis symmetry, near symmetry, and near quantum numbers, the investigator can label molecular energy levels. The text can benefit students of molecular spectroscopy, academicians, and investigators of molecular chemistry or quantum mechanics.
Book Synopsis Quantum Theory of Anharmonic Effects in Molecules by : Konstantin V. Kazakov
Download or read book Quantum Theory of Anharmonic Effects in Molecules written by Konstantin V. Kazakov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-07-09 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented in a clear and straightforward analysis, this book explores quantum mechanics and the application of quantum mechanics to interpret spectral phenomena. Specifically, the book discusses the relation between spectral features in mid or rear infrared regions, or in Raman scattering spectrum, and interactions between molecules or molecular species such as molecular ions, and their respective motions in gaseous or crystalline conditions. Beginning with an overview of conventional methods and problems which arise in molecular spectroscopy, the second half of the book suggests original techniques to investigate the area. The treatment is based on rigorous quantum-mechanical theories and procedures that are readily implemented in either manual methods or with symbolic computational software. Offers a novel approach in its application to physical phenomena Concise and clear discussions of quantum-mechanical theories and spectrum analysis Provides both theories and applications

Book Synopsis Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Spindles for Space Observation 1 by : Pierre-Richard Dahoo
Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Spindles for Space Observation 1 written by Pierre-Richard Dahoo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the description and application of various different theoretical models to identify the near and mid-infrared spectra of symmetric and spherical top molecules in their gaseous form. Theoretical models based on the use of group theory are applied to rigid and non-rigid molecules, characterized by the phenomenon of tunneling and large amplitude motions. The calculation of vibration-rotation energy levels and the analysis of infrared transitions are applied to molecules of ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4). The applications show how interactions at the molecular scale modify the near and mid-infrared spectra of isolated molecules, under the influence of the pressure of a nano-cage (the substitution site of a rare gas matrix, clathrate, fullerene or zeolite) or a surface, and allow us to identify the characteristics of the perturbing environment. This book provides valuable support for teachers and researchers but is also intended for engineering students, working research engineers and MasterÂs and doctorate students.
