When Louis meets another rabbit called Whiskers in his garden, he is baffled when his new friend won’t come and look inside his house because he is afraid of the dangerous humans. Louis decides to see where Whiskers has come from and follows him down into his warren. He is taken to a meadow full of beautiful scented flowers and grass that tastes so sweet and meets many new rabbits. But then the birds stop singing and a long dark shadow moves towards them. The rabbits run quickly back to the safety of the warren. Louis makes it back in time, but he is shaken by the terrifying and confusing experience and decides to go home. Tired after his adventure and safe in his home, Louis falls fast asleep dreaming of his adventure down the rabbit hole. Harriet Hall’s debut children’s book is the first in a series which follows Louis’ adventures. Each story examines a different issue and encourages children to exercise kindness and empathy with animals. Book excerpt: A House Rabbit Primer: Understanding and Caring for Your Companion Rabbit is a complete, up-to-date handbook on all aspects of rabbit care for both new and experienced pet rabbit owners. Just a few years ago, most pet rabbits were kept outdoors in hutches. That time is past. Today, pet rabbits are considered to be members of the family. They are spayed/neutered pets kept indoors and pampered with special toys and treats. In A House Rabbit Primer, author Lucile C. Moore, Ph.D., provides pet rabbit owners with valuable information about the total care of their pet. Part one tells owners just what to expect from their new member of the family and gives detailed information on how to house, feed, and train a rabbit. Part two contains a comprehensive medical section. In addition to detailed information on many rabbit diseases, there are tips on creating a first-aid kit for rabbits as well as providing emergency care. With more and more pet owners choosing to keep their rabbits indoors full time, this informative guide lays out practical information for making rabbits a healthy part of any family.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where did the story of the Easter Bunny come from? What does Easter, the Day on which Jesus was raised from the dead that Christians celebrate every year with great joy, have to do with a rabbit that brings joy to children? Did it ever occur to you that there might have been a family of rabbits in the Garden outside Jerusalem where Jesus was laid in the tomb on that sad, amazing day we call Good Friday? Well, if there were rabbits in that garden, maybe one of them saw the Risen Lord even before the faithful women went to the tomb and encountered the Angel telling the news of His Resurrection. Maybe she was a little bunny named Rebekah, who was curious about the strange rumbling she felt early, early that Sunday morning, and the beautiful light that came with the dawn, so out she hopped into the garden, all alone, while her brothers and sisters slept. And there she met the most wonderful person in the world - and somehow she knew Him and He knew her And then maybe that little bunny was able to say something without words to those women - and they included her in their story to the others. But then, over the centuries, the part about the rabbit and the first Easter day got forgotten -mostly. Fantasy can be a wonderful way to connect with the truths taught by the Christian faith. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, "The Tale of Rebekah Rabbit" is for children and adults with a heart for what may have happened if, as old legends tell us, animals can talk among themselves and, like humans, can recognize the voice of their Maker Jean Alden McCurdy Meade, an Episcopal priest since 2002, is the Rector of Mount Olivet Episcopal Church, New Orleans. She has broadcast a Bible study, "Light unto my Path," on New Orleans public access television for years and has been the speaker for many conferences and retreats, especially on "Women of the Bible" and "Male and Female in the Image of God." A graduate of Agnes Scott College and Duke University, she taught English in high schools and college before "retiring" for a while to bring up her children. In 1988 she was the first non-Roman Catholic graduate of Notre Dame Roman Catholic Seminary of New Orleans and then earned a PhD in Philosophy from Tulane University in 2000. She has taught Religious Studies and Philosophy at Loyola, Notre Dame Seminary, and Tulane in recent years. A native of San Antonio, Texas, she has four sisters and one brother, many nieces and nephews, and is married to Louis R Koerner, Jr, a lawyer. Book excerpt: 'This very informative and in-depth book about rabbits has some excellent and entertaining chapters on the rabbit in art, literature, myth, and popular culture, which I particularly enjoyed.' Libby Joy | The Beatrix Potter Society An Affectionate History of Nature's Most Surprising Species. Independent and resourceful, rabbits represent balance, rebirth, speed, fertility, resurrection, abundance, creativity, magic, and harmony. Yet they are much more than symbols, they are unique individuals with complex inner lives. In The Way of the Rabbit, Mark Hawthorne immerses himself in their world, exploring their habitats and evolution, their role in legend and literature, their place in popular culture, their fascinating biology, and, of course, their significance as household companions. It's an entertaining journey through myth and history that celebrates the rabbit's spirit, courage, friendships, and playfulness.

Can she manage to stay alive, save her mother, and keep the handsome son of a duke from discovering her secret? The Warrior Maiden is a reimagining of the classic Mulan tale in medieval Europe. When Mulan takes her father’s place in battle against the besieging Teutonic Knights, she realizes she has been preparing for this journey her whole life—and that her life, and her mother’s, depends on her success. As the adopted daughter of poor parents, Mulan has little power in the world. If she can’t prove herself on the battlefield, she could face death—or, perhaps worse, marriage to the village butcher. Disguised as a young man, Mulan meets the German duke’s son, Wolfgang, who is determined to save his people even if it means fighting against his own brother. Wolfgang is exasperated by the new soldier who always seems to be one step away from disaster—or showing him up in embarrassing ways. From rivals to reluctant friends, Mulan and Wolfgang begin to share secrets. But war is an uncertain time and dreams can die as quickly as they are born. When Mulan receives word of danger back home, she must make the ultimate choice. Can she be the son her bitter father never had? Or will she become the strong young woman she was created to be? This fresh twist on the classic tale takes us to fifteenth-century Lithuania where both love and war challenge the strongest of heroes. Praise for The Warrior Maiden: “In this fantastic retelling, Dickerson brings to life a completely new aspect of the medieval era . . . Discover castles, battles, beliefs, and injustices alongside Wolfgang and Mulan . . .” —Hope by the Book Full length clean fairy tale retelling Stand-alone novel in the Hagenheim Series by New York Times bestselling author Melanie Dickerson Includes discussion questions for book clubs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter and first published by Frederick Warne & Co. in December 1918. Timmy Willie is a country mouse who falls asleep in a hamper of vegetables after eating peas and is carried to the city. When the hamper is opened, find himself in a large house. He is seen and escapes and slips through a hole in the skirting board, landing in the middle of a mouse dinner party hosted by Johnny Town-mouse. Timmy is made welcome – and tries his best to fit in, but finds the noises made by the house cat and the maid frightening and the rich food difficult to digest making him feel ill. He returns via the hamper to his country home after extending an invitation to Johnny Town-mouse to visit him. The following spring, Johnny Town-mouse pays Timmy Willie a visit. He complains of the dampness and finds such things as cows and lawnmowers frightening. He returns to the city in the hamper of vegetables after telling Timmy country life is too quiet. The tale ends with the author stating her own preference for country living. The tale is based on the Aesop fable, "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse", with details taken from Horace's Satires. ============= TAGS: Beatrix Potter, children’s stories, lake district, Wales, England, bedtime stories, Peter Rabbit, Johnny Town-mouse, Timmy Willie, country mouse, hamper, peas, asleep, large house, escape, dinner party, cat, maid, frighten, rich food, digest, ill, cart, horse, burrow, lawnmower, return, way of life, preference, dampness, invitation, vegetables, too quiet, cows, animals, farm,
