Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a research monograph covering the majority of known results on the problem of constructing compact symplectic manifolds with no Kaehler structure with an emphasis on the use of rational homotopy theory. In recent years, some new and stimulating conjectures and problems have been formulated due to an influx of homotopical ideas. Examples include the Lupton-Oprea conjecture, the Benson-Gordon conjecture, both of which are in the spirit of some older and still unsolved problems (e.g. Thurston's conjecture and Sullivan's problem). Our explicit aim is to clarify the interrelations between certain aspects of symplectic geometry and homotopy theory in the framework of the problems mentioned above. We expect that the reader is aware of the basics of differential geometry and algebraic topology at graduate level.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Kähler Manifolds by : Werner Ballmann
Download or read book Lectures on Kähler Manifolds written by Werner Ballmann and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2006 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on lectures the author gave at the University of Bonn and the Erwin Schrodinger Institute in Vienna. The aim is to give a thorough introduction to the theory of Kahler manifolds with special emphasis on the differential geometric side of Kahler geometry. The exposition starts with a short discussion of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles and a detailed account of the basic differential geometric properties of Kahler manifolds. The more advanced topics are the cohomology of Kahler manifolds, Calabi conjecture, Gromov's Kahler hyperbolic spaces, and the Kodaira embedding theorem. Some familiarity with global analysis and partial differential equations is assumed, in particular in the part on the Calabi conjecture. There are appendices on Chern-Weil theory, symmetric spaces, and $L^2$-cohomology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of these notes is to provide a fast introduction to symplectic geometry for graduate students with some knowledge of differential geometry, de Rham theory and classical Lie groups. This text addresses symplectomorphisms, local forms, contact manifolds, compatible almost complex structures, Kaehler manifolds, hamiltonian mechanics, moment maps, symplectic reduction and symplectic toric manifolds. It contains guided problems, called homework, designed to complement the exposition or extend the reader's understanding. There are by now excellent references on symplectic geometry, a subset of which is in the bibliography of this book. However, the most efficient introduction to a subject is often a short elementary treatment, and these notes attempt to serve that purpose. This text provides a taste of areas of current research and will prepare the reader to explore recent papers and extensive books on symplectic geometry where the pace is much faster. For this reprint numerous corrections and clarifications have been made, and the layout has been improved.

Book Synopsis Nearly Pseudo-Kähler Manifolds and Related Special Holonomies by : Lars Schäfer
Download or read book Nearly Pseudo-Kähler Manifolds and Related Special Holonomies written by Lars Schäfer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-14 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing and providing an overview of recent results on nearly Kähler geometry on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, this monograph emphasizes the differences with the classical Riemannian geometry setting. The focal objects of the text are related to special holonomy and Killing spinors and have applications in high energy physics, such as supergravity and string theory. Before starting into the field, a self-contained introduction to the subject is given, aimed at students with a solid background in differential geometry. The book will therefore be accessible to masters and Ph.D. students who are beginning work on nearly Kähler geometry in pseudo-Riemannian signature, and also to non-experts interested in gaining an overview of the subject. Moreover, a number of results and techniques are provided which will be helpful for differential geometers as well as for high energy physicists interested in the mathematical background of the geometric objects they need.

Book Synopsis Infinite Dimensional Kähler Manifolds by : Alan Huckleberry
Download or read book Infinite Dimensional Kähler Manifolds written by Alan Huckleberry and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infinite dimensional manifolds, Lie groups and algebras arise naturally in many areas of mathematics and physics. Having been used mainly as a tool for the study of finite dimensional objects, the emphasis has changed and they are now frequently studied for their own independent interest. On the one hand this is a collection of closely related articles on infinite dimensional Kähler manifolds and associated group actions which grew out of a DMV-Seminar on the same subject. On the other hand it covers significantly more ground than was possible during the seminar in Oberwolfach and is in a certain sense intended as a systematic approach which ranges from the foundations of the subject to recent developments. It should be accessible to doctoral students and as well researchers coming from a wide range of areas. The initial chapters are devoted to a rather selfcontained introduction to group actions on complex and symplectic manifolds and to Borel-Weil theory in finite dimensions. These are followed by a treatment of the basics of infinite dimensional Lie groups, their actions and their representations. Finally, a number of more specialized and advanced topics are discussed, e.g., Borel-Weil theory for loop groups, aspects of the Virasoro algebra, (gauge) group actions and determinant bundles, and second quantization and the geometry of the infinite dimensional Grassmann manifold.
Book Synopsis Fundamental Groups of Compact Kahler Manifolds by : Jaume Amorós
Download or read book Fundamental Groups of Compact Kahler Manifolds written by Jaume Amorós and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an exposition of what is currently known about the fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds. This class of groups contains all finite groups and is strictly smaller than the class of all finitely presentable groups. For the first time ever, this book collects together all the results obtained in the last few years which aim to characterize those infinite groups which can arise as fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds. Most of these results are negative ones, saying which groups don not arise. The methods and techniques used form an attractive mix of topology, differential and algebraic geometry, and complex analysis. The book would be useful to researchers and graduate students interested in any of these areas, and it could be used as a textbook for an advanced graduate course. One of its outstanding features is a large number of concrete examples. The book contains a number of new results and examples which have not appeared elsewhere, as well as discussions of some important open questions in the field.
Book Synopsis Minimal Submanifolds And Related Topics (Second Edition) by : Yuanlong Xin
Download or read book Minimal Submanifolds And Related Topics (Second Edition) written by Yuanlong Xin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-08-03 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the theory of minimal submanifolds, Bernstein's problem and Plateau's problem are central topics. This important book presents the Douglas-Rado solution to Plateau's problem, but the main emphasis is on Bernstein's problem and its new developments in various directions: the value distribution of the Gauss image of a minimal surface in Euclidean 3-space, Simons' work for minimal graphic hypersurfaces, and the author's own contributions to Bernstein type theorems for higher codimension. The author also introduces some related topics, such as submanifolds with parallel mean curvature, Weierstrass type representation for surfaces of mean curvature 1 in hyperbolic 3-space, and special Lagrangian submanifolds. This new edition contains the author's recent work on the Lawson-Osserman's problem for higher codimension, and on Chern's problem for minimal hypersurfaces in the sphere. Both Chern's problem and Lawson-Osserman's problem are important problems in minimal surface theory which are still unsolved. In addition, some new techniques were developed to address those problems in detail, which are of interest in the field of geometric analysis.

Book Synopsis Submanifold Theory by : Marcos Dajczer
Download or read book Submanifold Theory written by Marcos Dajczer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-02 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to Submanifold theory, focusing on general properties of isometric and conformal immersions of Riemannian manifolds into space forms. One main theme is the isometric and conformal deformation problem for submanifolds of arbitrary dimension and codimension. Several relevant classes of submanifolds are also discussed, including constant curvature submanifolds, submanifolds of nonpositive extrinsic curvature, conformally flat submanifolds and real Kaehler submanifolds. This is the first textbook to treat a substantial proportion of the material presented here. The first chapters are suitable for an introductory course on Submanifold theory for students with a basic background on Riemannian geometry. The remaining chapters could be used in a more advanced course by students aiming at initiating research on the subject, and are also intended to serve as a reference for specialists in the field.
