Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment of Disfigurements and Deformities of the Face Under the title "The Surgical Treatment of Congenital and Pathological Disfigurements of the Face," I had the honor of delivering the Mutter Lectures of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia for 1900. Abstracts of the lectures were subsequently published in a small volume; the entire edition of which has now been exhausted. The little book seemed to be of interest to professional readers, and I have accordingly had published a second edition. In this case I have changed the title somewhat; and have added, as a supplementary chapter, an article on the "Reconstruction of Syphilitic Noses," which was originally prepared for the American Medical Association. Continued study of the plastic or reconstructive surgery of the face has greatly widened for me its interest and its operative field. Other surgeons will doubtless find, as I have found, that cases, which they at first considered hopeless, are with increasing experience approached with a confident feeling of ultimate success.
