Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first comprehensive critical survey of the microstructural characteristics of liquid metals which determine properties of viscosity, surface tension, density, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity, diffusion, and velocity of sound transmission. The experimental techniques used to obtain these data are also reviewed. The result is a valuable set of correlations and reference data which enable the reader to understand the basic phenomena underlying the properties of liquid metals. As such, the book will be invaluable for metallurgists and materials engineers working in this area.
Book Synopsis Welding Metallurgy of Stainless Steels by : Erich Folkhard
Download or read book Welding Metallurgy of Stainless Steels written by Erich Folkhard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When considering the operational performance of stainless steel weldments the most important points to consider are corrosion resistance, weld metal mechanical properties and the integrity ofthe weldedjoint. Mechanical and corrosion resistance properties are greatly influenced by the metallurgical processes that occur during welding or during heat treatment of welded components. This book is aimed, there fore, at providing information on the metallurgical problems that may be encountered during stainless steel welding. In this way we aim to help overcome a certain degree of insecurity that is often encountered in welding shops engaged in the welding of stainless steels and is often the cause of welding problems which may in some instances lead to the premature failure of the welded component. The metallurgical processes that occur during the welding of stainless steel are of a highly intricate nature. The present book focuses in particular on the signif icance of constitution diagrams, on the processes occurring during the solidification of weld metal and on the recrystallization and precipitation phenomena which take place in the area of the welds. There are specific chapters covering the hot cracking resistance during welding and the practical welding of a number of different stainless steel grades. In addition, recommendations are given as to the most suitable procedures to be followed in order to obtain maximum corrosion resistance and mechanical properties from the weldments.

Book Synopsis Functional Organic Liquids by : Takashi Nakanishi
Download or read book Functional Organic Liquids written by Takashi Nakanishi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-03-12 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book to comprehensively cover the burgeoning new class of soft materials known as functional organic liquids Functional organic liquids, a new concept in soft matter materials science, exhibit favorable properties compared to amorphous polymers and ionic liquids. They are composed of a functional core unit and a side chain, which induces fluidity even at room temperature. Due to their fluidity, functional organic liquids can adopt any shape and geometry and fulfill their function in stretchable and bendable devices for applications in photovoltaics, organic electronics, biomedicine, and biochemistry. Presented in five parts, this book starts with an overview of the design methods and properties of functional organic liquids. The next three parts focus on the applications of this exciting new class of soft materials in the fields of energy conversion, nanotechnology, and biomaterials. They study the liquids for energy conversion, those containing inorganic nanoclusters, and solvent-free soft biomaterials. Functional Organic Liquids concludes with a comparison in terms of properties and application potential between functional organic liquids and more conventional soft matter such as ionic liquids and liquid metals. -Examines the current state of science and technology for functional organic liquids -Focuses on potential and already realized applications such as functional organic liquids for energy conversion -Stimulates researchers to move forward on future development and applications Functional Organic Liquids is an excellent book for materials scientists, polymer chemists, organic chemists, physical chemists, surface chemists, and surface physicists.

Book Synopsis Surface Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures by : Christian Wohlfarth
Download or read book Surface Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures written by Christian Wohlfarth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-04-25 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 Introduction Data extract from Landolt-Börnstein IV/24: Surface Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures 1.1 Selection of data This supplement updates Landolt-Börnstein's New Series Group IV (Physical Chemistry) Volume 16, S- face Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures, published in the year 1997 [1997WOH1]. The update provides experimental data published in the years 1997 to 2006. The ?nal date for including data was December, 31st, 2006. Specialization and selection of data for this new update follows the intentions of the original volume. The focus is on non-electrolyte systems, and only data for pure liquids and binary liquid mixtures at normal pr- sure (or in some single cases at saturation vapor pressure) were taken into account for this volume. For m- tures, this data collection is restricted to binary liquid mixtures, i.e. no ternary systems and also no solutions of any solids, salts, electrolytes, polymers are included here. Surfactant solutions or micellar systems in water or other ?uids were not considered either. At least, also molten metals and metallic alloys, molten salts, molten glasses and other high-temperature melts were not taken into account. As the amount of data collected between 1997 and 2006 exceeds the available space for printing by far, the volume has an electronic version containing additional data which is available on www.landolt-boernstein.
