Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ward off life-threatening disease and symptoms of aging with this guide to boosting your levels of glutathione (GSH), the "master antioxidant." The body has a remarkable ability to ward off disease and heal itself--and it does it with the help of the most important antioxidant you've never heard of: glutathione (GSH), the "master antioxidant." This indispensable molecule--which we make ourselves--holds the key to immunity, vitality, and lifelong health, helping to flush out toxins, fight DNA-damaging free radicals, and rebuild other essential antioxidants like Vitamins C and E. It's been linked to longevity in centenarians, and it protects against diseases like cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's. It plays a role in lesser ailments too: low glutathione levels could be the culprit behind your fatigue, aches, and pains. At the forefront of the latest GSH research, Dr. Nayan Patel shares all the information you need to boost your glutathione levels, revitalize your body, and transform your life with this naturally-occurring super antioxidant. In The Glutathione Revolution, he addresses the most important questions about GSH: What exactly is glutathione? What happens when your GSH levels are low? What diseases does GSH ward off? How can you naturally increase the amount of GSH your cells produce? What foods should you eat--and not eat? What are the safest and most effective GSH supplements? With a wealth of practical information and three easy, accessible action plans that you can tailor to your own life and health concerns, you too can harness the power of glutathione.

Book excerpt: This volume is the newest release in the authoritative series of quantitative estimates of nutrient intakes to be used for planning and assessing diets for healthy people. Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) is the newest framework for an expanded approach developed by U.S. and Canadian scientists. This book discusses in detail the role of vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, and the carotenoids in human physiology and health. For each nutrient the committee presents what is known about how it functions in the human body, which factors may affect how it works, and how the nutrient may be related to chronic disease. Dietary Reference Intakes provides reference intakes, such as Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs), for use in planning nutritionally adequate diets for different groups based on age and gender, along with a new reference intake, the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL), designed to assist an individual in knowing how much is "too much" of a nutrient.

Book excerpt: The Antioxidant You've Probably Never Heard Of A deficiency in this one nutrient is known to contribute to cancer, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's, liver disease, and chronic fatigue, among other conditions. On the other hand, adequate amounts reduce inflammation, improve sleep, improve recovery from exercise, improve heavy metal detoxification, and protect the liver and brain. So what is this mystery nutrient? Is it some obscure superfood or expensive supplement? No! It's glutathione, which is a naturally occurring substance produced by the body. The Problem is That Most of Us Are Deficient Without glutathione, cellular functioning would grind to a halt and the body would become burdened by toxicity. Unfortunately, deficiency is caused by common things that many of us are doing on a daily basis, like over-exercising, dieting, taking Tylenol, and being exposed to many of the toxins that infiltrate our world, like benzene, formaldehyde, and pesticides. Stress is also a culprit. Oh yeah, and alcohol consumption and lack of sleep, too. Yikes! So What Can We Do? Luckily, there is a solution. In The Mother of All Antioxidants, author Joey Lott lays out an easy to follow protocol that doesn't involve weird foods, expensive supplements, or anything that would seriously disrupt your life. Instead, you get to eat delicious food-like butter!-and reap all the benefits of this amazing nutrient. You'll learn about all the nutrients that help the body produce glutathione, including vitamin D, magnesium, and Omega-3s, and also pick up some tips on healthy lifestyle practices that will allow you to feel more well rested and to enjoy life more. What you don't know can harm you. Available on Kindle and paperback.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty years ago, the enzyme superoxide dismutase which uses the superoxide radical anion as its specific substrate was reported. With this discovery was born a new scientific field, in which oxygen, necessary for aerobi c 1 ife on thi s planet, had to be cons i dered also in terms of its toxicity and stresses. This stimulated the search for knowledge of active oxygen species in biology and medicine. Superoxide and other reactive oxygen species are now implicated in many disease processes. Major advances have been achieved during these past years with respect to free radical generation and mechanisms of free radical action in causing tissue injury. In parallel, the possibil ity of influencing free radical related disease processes by antioxidant treatment was studied in various in vitro and in vivo systems. This was the unique theme of a conference organized in Paris by the Society for Free Radical Research (December 9-10, 1988) which brought together experts from basic sciences and clinicians in order to evaluate the current status of antioxidant therapy. The conference emphasized fundamental processes in antioxidant action. Among the major topics were superoxide dismutase (SOD) and low molecular weight substances with such activity, called SOD mimics. Other antioxidant enzymes were also considered. Antioxidant vitamins, in particular vitamins E and C, other naturally occurri ng antioxidants and vari ous synthet i c antioxidants were included in the presentations as there is now a rapidly developing series of compounds with potentially interesting clinical applications.
