This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates knowledge interactions in China’s foreign enterprises. It reveals that cultural differences strongly account for knowledge-related obstacles, namely knowledge leakage and insufficient knowledge sharing. Contrary to conventional wisdom, however, widespread cultural arguments such as Confucianism or collectivism hardly apply to Chinese employees’ handling of knowledge. In fact, more subtle cultural logics are relevant in daily work, which are connected to the perceived stability of the enterprise itself. But these usually go unnoticed. Thus, rather than being distracted by a national “Chinese culture”, managers can take real action to solve knowledge conflicts in their particular enterprise.

Book Synopsis Delivering Distinctive Value in Emerging Economies by : Thomas Anning-Dorson
Download or read book Delivering Distinctive Value in Emerging Economies written by Thomas Anning-Dorson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-23 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea behind editing this book is to present a contemporary reference that tells the story of how businesses and institutions in emerging economies are circumventing or can better circumvent institutional voids in order to create distinct value for consumers and develop resilient and sustainable economies. For this book, we gathered 24 contributions (or chapters) on new directions and strategies to create value in emerging economies. The contributions span thematic areas such as: COVID-19 and small businesses, social influencers and COVID-19 advocacy, artisan entrepreneurship, leadership and project success, internationalization and intellectual property, cultural artifacts in corporate branding, fintech adoption, mobile money and agriculture value chain, workplace fraud, ethical decision-making in accountancy, modeling early detection of mother’s mode of delivery, assessment of health systems in Africa, online platforms and patient empowerment, students’ academic engagement and technology, and continuous use of e-learning among professional accounting students. The authors of these contributions discuss the relevance of each chapter to its target audience (practitioners and students). They also outline the implications for practice and policy (where applicable) alongside the concluding arguments of their respective chapters. In effect, the 24 chapters offer key strategic directions for businesses, public sector institutions, non-governmental organizations, and international development institutions to be more efficient and sustainably responsible in delivering distinctive value in emerging economies. Emerging economies have become an opportune interest of practitioners, entrepreneurs and policy makers worldwide. Hence, a contemporary text which explores how to create and deliver distinct value in these economies is a must a read.
Book Synopsis The Paradox of Power by : David C. Gompert
Download or read book The Paradox of Power written by David C. Gompert and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2020 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second half of the 20th century featured a strategic competition between the United States and the Soviet Union. That competition avoided World War III in part because during the 1950s, scholars like Henry Kissinger, Thomas Schelling, Herman Kahn, and Albert Wohlstetter analyzed the fundamental nature of nuclear deterrence. Decades of arms control negotiations reinforced these early notions of stability and created a mutual understanding that allowed U.S.-Soviet competition to proceed without armed conflict. The first half of the 21st century will be dominated by the relationship between the United States and China. That relationship is likely to contain elements of both cooperation and competition. Territorial disputes such as those over Taiwan and the South China Sea will be an important feature of this competition, but both are traditional disputes, and traditional solutions suggest themselves. A more difficult set of issues relates to U.S.-Chinese competition and cooperation in three domains in which real strategic harm can be inflicted in the current era: nuclear, space, and cyber. Just as a clearer understanding of the fundamental principles of nuclear deterrence maintained adequate stability during the Cold War, a clearer understanding of the characteristics of these three domains can provide the underpinnings of strategic stability between the United States and China in the decades ahead. That is what this book is about.

Book Synopsis The Contest of the Century by : Geoff A. Dyer
Download or read book The Contest of the Century written by Geoff A. Dyer and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the former Financial Times Beijing bureau chief, a balanced and far-seeing analysis of the emerging competition between China and the United States that will dominate twenty-first-century world affairs—an inside account of Beijing’s quest for influence and an explanation of how America can come out on top. The structure of global politics is shifting rapidly. After decades of rising, China has entered a new and critical phase where it seeks to turn its economic heft into global power. In this deeply informed book, Geoff Dyer makes a lucid and convincing argument that China and the United States are now embarking on a great power–style competition that will dominate the century. This contest will take place in every arena: from control of the seas, where China’s new navy is trying to ease the United States out of Asia and reassert its traditional leadership, to rewriting the rules of the global economy, with attempts to turn the renminbi into the predominant international currency, toppling the dominance of the U.S. dollar. And by investing billions to send its media groups overseas, Beijing hopes to shift the global debate about democracy and individual rights. Eyeing the high ground of international politics, China is taking the first steps in an ambitious global agenda. Yet Dyer explains how China will struggle to unseat the United States. China’s new ambitions are provoking intense anxiety, especially in Asia, while America’s global influence has deep roots. If Washington can adjust to a world in which it is no longer dominant but still immensely powerful, it can withstand China’s challenge. With keen insight based on a deep local knowledge—offering the reader visions of coastal Chinese beauty pageants and secret submarine bases, lockstep Beijing military parades and the neon media screens of Xinhua exported to New York City’s Times Square—The Contest of the Century is essential reading at a time of great uncertainty about America’s future, a road map for retaining a central role in the world.
Book Synopsis Code by : Bernard Dionysius Geoghegan
Download or read book Code written by Bernard Dionysius Geoghegan and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Code Bernard Dionysius Geoghegan reconstructs how Progressive Era technocracy as well as crises of industrial democracy and colonialism shaped early accounts of cybernetics and digital media by theorists including Norbert Wiener, Warren Weaver, Margaret Mead, Gregory Bateson, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Roman Jakobson, Jacques Lacan, Roland Barthes, and Luce Irigaray. His analysis casts light on how media-practical research forged common epistemic cause in programs that stretched from 1930s interwar computing at MIT and eugenics to the proliferation of seminars and laboratories in 1960s Paris. This mobilization ushered forth new fields of study such as structural anthropology, family therapy, and literary semiology while forming enduring intellectual affinities between the humanities and informatics. With Code, Geoghegan offers a new history of French theory and the digital humanities as transcontinental and political endeavors linking interwar colonial ethnography in Dutch Bali to French sciences in the throes of Cold War-era decolonization and modernization.

Book Synopsis Interpreting China's Grand Strategy by : Michael D. Swaine
Download or read book Interpreting China's Grand Strategy written by Michael D. Swaine and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2000-03-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's continuing rapid economic growth and expanding involvement in global affairs pose major implications for the power structure of the international system. To more accurately and fully assess the significance of China's emergence for the United States and the global community, it is necessary to gain a more complete understanding of Chinese security thought and behavior. This study addresses such questions as: What are China's most fundamental national security objectives? How has the Chinese state employed force and diplomacy in the pursuit of these objectives over the centuries? What security strategy does China pursue today and how will it evolve in the future? The study asserts that Chinese history, the behavior of earlier rising powers, and the basic structure and logic of international power relations all suggest that, although a strong China will likely become more assertive globally, this possibility is unlikely to emerge before 2015-2020 at the earliest. To handle this situation, the study argues that the United States should adopt a policy of realistic engagement with China that combines efforts to pursue cooperation whenever possible; to prevent, if necessary, the acquisition by China of capabilities that would threaten America's core national security interests; and to remain prepared to cope with the consequences of a more assertive China.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the relationship between China and the United States becomes increasingly complex and interdependent, leaders in Beijing and Washington are struggling to establish a solid common foundation on which to expand and deepen bilateral relations. In order to examine the challenges facing U.S.-China relations, the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) and the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (iGCU) at Peking University brought together a group of leading experts from China and the United States in Beijing and Honolulu to develop a conceptual foundation for U.S.-China relations into the future, tackling the issues in innovative ways under the banner of U.S.-China Relations in Strategic Domains. The resulting chapters assess U.S.-China relations in the maritime and nuclear sectors as well as in cyberspace and space and through the lens of P2P and mil-to-mil exchanges. Scholars and students in political science and international relations are thus presented with a diagnosis and prognosis of the relations between the two superpowers.
