Book Synopsis Circulating Fluidized Beds by : J.R. Grace
Download or read book Circulating Fluidized Beds written by J.R. Grace and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the late 1970s there has been an explosion of industrial and academic interest in circulating fluidized beds. In part, the attention has arisen due to the environmental advantages associated with CFB (circulating . fluidized bed) combustion systems, the incorporation of riser reactors employing cir culating fluidized bed technology in petroleum refineries for fluid catalytic cracking and, to a lesser extent, the successes of CFB technology for calcina tion reactions and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. In part, it was also the case that too much attention had been devoted to bubbling fluidized beds and it was time to move on to more complex and more advantageous regime,S of operation. Since 1980 a number of CFB processes have been commercialized. There have been five successful International Circulating Fluidized Bed Confer ences beginning in 1985, the most recent taking place in Beijing in May 1996. In addition, we have witnessed a host of other papers on CFB funda mentals and applications in journals and other archival publications. There have also been several review papers and books on specific CFB topics. However, there has been no comprehensive book reviewing the field and attempting to provide an overview of both fundamentals and applications. The purpose of this book is to fill this vacuum.

Book Synopsis The Use of Probabilistic Multiphase Flow Equations in the Study of the Hydrodynamics and Heat Transfer in Gas-solids Suspensions [microform] by : Douglas Walter Muzyka
Download or read book The Use of Probabilistic Multiphase Flow Equations in the Study of the Hydrodynamics and Heat Transfer in Gas-solids Suspensions [microform] written by Douglas Walter Muzyka and published by National Library of Canada. This book was released on 1985 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis represents the initial step in a more rigorous approach to the study of the hydrodynamic and heat transfer behaviour of gas-solids suspension flows. General Probabilistic Multiphase flow equa- tions were developed and used as the basis for analyzing pressure drops and pipe wall to suspension heat transfer coefficients meas- ured in dilute, vertical, fully developed suspension flows. Hydrody- namic experiments were carried out with sand ((')d(,p) = 172, 249 (mu)m) and glass bead ((')d(,p) = 65 (mu)m) suspensions in a 12 m high, 20 mm ID transport line installation designed to allow pressure drops, solids and gas flowrates and mean solids concentrations to be measured. Heat transfer experiments were carried out with 249 (mu)m sand suspen- sions in the same installation with a modified test section. A thinned-walled stainless steel pipe was heated electrically in order to provide a constant heat flux from the test section wall to the suspension flowing inside.

Book Synopsis Hydrodynamics and Mass Transfer in Downflow Slurry Bubble Columns by : Subrata Kumar Majumder
Download or read book Hydrodynamics and Mass Transfer in Downflow Slurry Bubble Columns written by Subrata Kumar Majumder and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slurry bubble column reactors are intensively used as a multiphase reactor in the chemical, biochemical, and petrochemical industries for carrying out reactions and mass transfer operations in which a gas, made up of one or several reactive components, comes into contact or reacts with a liquid. This volume describes the hydrodynamics of three-phase gas-liquid-solid flow in a downflow slurry bubble column. The efficiency of the downflow gas interacting system is characterized by the self-entrainment of secondary gas. The book covers the gas entrainment phenomena, gas holdup characteristics, pressure drop, gasliquid mixing characteristics, bubble size distribution, interfacial phenomena, and the mass transfer phenomena in the downflow slurry system. This volume will be useful in chemical and biochemical industries and in industrial research and development sectors, as well as in advanced education courses in this area. The book will be helpful for further understanding the multiphase behavior in gas interacting multiphase systems for research and development. The hydrodynamic and mass transfer characteristics discussed will be useful in the design and installation of the modified slurry bubble column in industry for specific applications.
