Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of Elasticity can be approached from several points of view, - pending on whether the practitioner is principally interested in the mat- matical structure of the subject or in its use in engineering applications and, in the latter case, whether essentially numerical or analytical methods are envisaged as the solution method. My ?rst introduction to the subject was in response to a need for information about a speci?c problem in Tribology. As a practising Engineer with a background only in elementary Mechanics of - terials, I approached that problem initially using the concepts of concentrated forces and superposition. Today, with a rather more extensive knowledge of analytical techniques in Elasticity, I still ?nd it helpful to go back to these roots in the elementary theory and think through a problem physically as well as mathematically, whenever some new and unexpected feature presents di?culties in research. This way of thinking will be found to permeate this book. My engineering background will also reveal itself in a tendency to work examples through to ?nal expressions for stresses and displacements, rather than leave the derivation at a point where the remaining manipulations would be mathematically routine. The ?rst edition of this book, published in 1992, was based on a one semester graduate course on Linear Elasticity that I have taught at the U- versity of Michigan since 1983.

Book Synopsis Strength of Materials by : D.S. Bedi
Download or read book Strength of Materials written by D.S. Bedi and published by KHANNA PUBLISHING HOUSE. This book was released on with total page 751 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth edition of the book has thoroughly been modified and enlarged to meet the revised syllabi of many universities and other professional examination like AMIE and above all to incorporate the suggestions received from the students and faculty a like. Additional problems on two-dimensional complex stress systems have been fully solved by both analytical and Mohr'circlem method so that the readers are made aware of the face that the sign shear stress on a particular plane has its one important role to play so as arrive at the correct result which otherwise is normally overlooked or even sometimes neglected. The term " bending Moment" and "twisting Moment" have been introduced as vector quantities in order to bring out the difference between them so that the reader can easily decipher each of them and proceed ahead to accomplish the associated objectives. The chapter on Thick Cylinders had been re-written to keep uniformity in sign convention of the stresses throughout the entire text. Further in this chapter the process of auto frettage of a thick cylinder has been introduced along with the "Simplified" theory of this process. The author has endeavored to familiarize the readers with the "Yield point phenomenon of low carbon steel". "quantitative definitions of ductility and malleability" and "Negative Possions Ratio" Which were hitherto not dealt with in most of the text on the subject. On the specific demand of the students almost all the chapter have been supplemented with objective type questions along with more number of worked examples.
Book Synopsis Engineering Solid Mechanics by : Abdel-Rahman A. Ragab
Download or read book Engineering Solid Mechanics written by Abdel-Rahman A. Ragab and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Solid Mechanics bridges the gap between elementary approaches to strength of materials and more advanced, specialized versions on the subject. The book provides a basic understanding of the fundamentals of elasticity and plasticity, applies these fundamentals to solve analytically a spectrum of engineering problems, and introduces advanced topics of mechanics of materials - including fracture mechanics, creep, superplasticity, fiber reinforced composites, powder compacts, and porous solids. Text includes: stress and strain, equilibrium, and compatibility elastic stress-strain relations the elastic problem and the stress function approach to solving plane elastic problems applications of the stress function solution in Cartesian and polar coordinates Problems of elastic rods, plates, and shells through formulating a strain compatibility function as well as applying energy methods Elastic and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics Plastic and creep deformation Inelastic deformation and its applications This book presents the material in an instructive manner, suitable for individual self-study. It emphasizes analytical treatment of the subject, which is essential for handling modern numerical methods as well as assessing and creating software packages. The authors provide generous explanations, systematic derivations, and detailed discussions, supplemented by a vast variety of problems and solved examples. Primarily written for professionals and students in mechanical engineering, Engineering Solid Mechanics also serves persons in other fields of engineering, such as aerospace, civil, and material engineering.
