Book Synopsis The Legend of the Dark Man by : Lyn Gibson
Download or read book The Legend of the Dark Man written by Lyn Gibson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-25 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within every small town there are whispers of a dark and unpleasant history lurking among the locals. Things that have been deliberately cast from the memories of our elders in attempt at saving a family name, or perhaps, hushed, lest some vengeful demon be loosed to prove the rumors true. Here in Louisiana, it is much the same with the exception being, many of those rumors are based in horrific and blood wielding fact. With roots stemming so deeply in the dark arts and superstition, it comes as no surprise to the outsiders that there are many secrets and legends that are guarded closely by the locals. One such legend is that of the Dark Man. Born of Sicilian folk lore, the Dark Man made his way to American soil by way of migrant workers who were shipped in via the port of New Orleans. In Sicilian culture, the Dark Man was a ravenous demon that was blamed for the disappearance of any man, woman or child that went missing. Locals knew when half eaten corpses were discovered in the woods that the deceased had been taken and devoured by this beast. Described as a towering black void wearing a brimmed hat and a coat, the Dark Man terrified Sicilian culture for centuries. Some say he originated from a vengeful curse cast by a Strega, others believe that he descended upon the earth directly from Hell itself. But, when Stregheria (Sicilian witchcraft) met up with Creole Voodoo, a demon unlike any that had come before him, arose from the ashes.

Book Synopsis Screening the Hollywood rebels in 1950s Britain by : Anna Ariadne Knight

This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines issues of censorship, publicity and teenage fandom in 1950s Britain surrounding a series of controversial Hollywood films: The Wild One, Blackboard Jungle, Rebel Without a Cause, Rock Around the Clock and Jailhouse Rock. It also explores British cinema’s commentary on juvenile delinquency through a re-examination of such British films as The Blue Lamp, Spare the Rod and Serious Charge. Taking a multi-dimensional approach, the book intersects with star studies and social history while reappraising the stardom of Marlon Brando, James Dean and Elvis Presley. By looking at the specific meanings, pleasures and uses British fans derived from these films, it provides a logical and sustained narrative for how Hollywood star images fed into and disrupted British cultural life during a period of unprecedented teenage consumerism.

Book excerpt: Detroit is famous for its cars and its music. From the 1950s through the 1970s, Motor City fans experienced a golden age of rock and roll. Rock was the defiant voice of the boomer generation. The 1960s and the 1970s were turbulent decades. Blacks and women asserted themselves, breaking down the establishment. Rock music, and the spirit and events that defined it, advanced these interests. The war in Vietnam brought tension and national conflict. Richard Nixon were just a few of the upheavals that made these decades two of the most important in the nation's history. Motor City Rock and Roll: The 1960s and 1970s features 200 images, capturing local musicians who started in Detroit and then traveled the world, as well as world-famous acts who came to the city to perform.
