Book Synopsis Counsels of the Holy Spirit by : Patrick Goujon
Download or read book Counsels of the Holy Spirit written by Patrick Goujon and published by Messenger Publications. This book was released on 2021-06-19 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many books have already been written on spiritual counselling, especially in the Ignatian tradition. But very few consider how Ignatius gave spiritual advice in his letters, directed to various and specific situations. If God really leads us in our spiritual journey, as Ignatius believed, what is the role of the spiritual adviser? What part is played by the numerous rules given in the Spiritual Exercises? The letters show that Ignatius really wanted to give scope to his correspondents and to their awareness of the work of the Holy Spirit within them. Ignatius deployed a “Pedagogy of Consolation” in which his correspondents were trained to exercise their own spiritual agency by discovering God’s abundant gifts. It was clear to Ignatius that a counselling relationship was first grounded in God’s freedom but also in the freedom of the person who asks for assistance. In six chapters, Patrick C. Goujon focuses on eight letters. He offers a careful reading which emphasizes what makes giving spiritual help possible in a conversation. We are shown how Ignatius deals with decision-making and with obstacles in the spiritual life. He is also revealed giving encouragement and correction and advising about how to offer these to others. His aim is to help people grow in freedom which, in turn, permits them to live according to God’s will. Through his letters, we are allowed to enter not only Ignatius’s study, the famous camerata in Rome, but also into his heart. “This volume is an excellent introduction to the letters of Ignatius of Loyola (…) making it an important scholarly contribution not only for those interested in Ignatian spirituality, but also for those interested in the history of spirituality more broadly”, Mark Rotsaert, ARSI
Book Synopsis Transforming People and Organizations by : Margarete van den Brink
Download or read book Transforming People and Organizations written by Margarete van den Brink and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individuals, groups, and organizations find themselves in a process of continual change, transformation, and growth. The author suggests that all people--whether as individuals or in groups--experience the same archetypal process of development, which consists of seven steps. Using practical examples, she describes how to recognize these steps, or phases, in individuals, in relationships and groups, and even in commercial and voluntary organizations. Knowledge of the various steps provides clarity and vision and helps us prepare for the sorts of challenges and rewards. In addition to the outer aspects of these processes, there is also an inner aspect. The author shows that the process of growth through the seven phases is essentially a process of spiritual development. Spirit manifests in human beings and determines the meaning and direction of our lives, providing motivation for change and direction. These impulses also work in groups and organizations, and understanding them gives us greater insight. Van den Brink's approach offers a refreshing, new, and dynamic way forward in contrast to the rationalistic methods of most mainstream consultants and personal development.

Book Synopsis Sean O'Riordan, a Theologian of Development by : Sean O'Riordan
Download or read book Sean O'Riordan, a Theologian of Development written by Sean O'Riordan and published by Columba Press (IE). This book was released on 1998 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sean O'Riordan (1916-1998) was among the most gifted theologians of his generation. His particular theological style was the development of a scientifically based discourse with a pastoral purpose. It is this pastoral thrust that distinguishes him as a theologian: the desire to see how theology is at the service of all that is concrete, dynamic and historical in the life of the Church. This unique book gathers together, for the first time, some of Sean O'Riordan's more significant essays over a thirty-year period.
