Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the real truth behind the Universe? What are the Christian points of view and the Spiritual truths of the Universe? Many human beings have sought to find out just how this great big world started. All have their beliefs and opinions. Some say with a big bang, others are drawn to evolution and Christians give credit to a Higher Power, whom they believe can reveal spiritual truths. They believe there is one God, Jehovah, the Father, the Almighty, the Creator of the heavens, and earth, the seas, and everything that's in them; and Christ Jesus, the Son of God, who became embodied in the flesh for their salvation and the "Holy Spirit"; being God's power in action, invisible to the human eye. Christians also believe that The Universe was created in six days by the Creator, and then He rested upon the seventh day.

How can God who is far above us all be upon this earth and found to be dwelling among us and how can we be a refl ection of Him? How can it be that God is in His Creation, and His Creation in God? Is the Father not the hidden One, from whom all things come? Is the Son not the saving One, by whom we are redeemed this day? Is the Spirit not the guiding One, through whom we shall come to Heaven? And are we not called to be as He is, one with the One LORD forever?

Book excerpt: Today man feels empty, insecure, wavering, and restless and has no calming and stabilizing power within, simply because he lacks God within. God is man’s content, and man should be God’s expression. For this goal, God created a spirit especially for man. This spirit is the organ for man to contact God, just like a receiver in a radio....Our conscience, the deep part in us, our spirit, always gives us a feeling that there is a Supreme Being, that there is a God in this universe. This proves two things. First, we have a spirit within, and second, we need God in our spirit.

Drawing on a wide variety of historical, cultural, and religious perspectives, Dr. Rotholz probes the intriguing and deeply profound meaning to be found behind a universe in motion. Written in layman's terms from a first-person perspective, Walking the Spirit draws upon many of the author's experiences as an anthropologist, avid outdoorsman, and international Christian aid worker to countries in Africa, Asia, and Central America. Among the topics explored is the idea that the neighborhood walk represents an apt metaphor for our journey through life, an idea the author develops into a novel and far-reaching perspective on human society, the world of nature, and the biblical account from Genesis to Revelation. Whether on a casual stroll through suburbia, a distant pilgrimage to Mecca, or crossing the very threshold of death, Walking the Spirit allows the reader to positively identify and better understanding the one common denominator that makes each daily activity meaningful and coherent in the larger scope of things. spirituality, the world of nature, and the grand themes of human existence.

This book examines the formative years of modern cosmology from the perspective of its interaction with religious thought. As the first study of its kind, it reveals how closely associated the development of cosmology has been with considerations of a philosophical and religious nature. From nineteenth-century thermodynamics to the pioneering cosmological works of Georges LemaŒtre and Arthur E Milne, religion has shaped parts of modern cosmological theory. By taking the religious component seriously, a new and richer history of cosmology emerges.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular belief that a scientific understanding of reality is incompatible with a Christian one is simply wrong. Some Christian understandings of reality do conflict with some scientific understandings. But a thoroughly rational Christian understanding of the origin and history of the universe will be informed by the best scientific theories and the "facts" founded on them. This book weaves a narrative of the origin and history of the universe from the perspective of contemporary science with a Christian understanding of God and of God's role in the origin and history of the universe. At the center of this integrated narrative is the view that God, who is pure, unbounded Love, is Creator: the zest for life in the universe comes from God, and God is the source of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness in the universe. God is amazed and delighted at what God-and-the-world has created; God is saddened by ways creatures have fallen short of pure, unbounded Love, Truth, Beauty, and Goodness; and God's pure, unbounded Love keeps on trying to persuade all creatures toward Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spirit and Nature is a collection of essays exploring how the resources of Christian spirituality can inform the practice of a more ecologically sustainable faith. Our current ecological situation calls for people of religious faith to reexamine the way they envision the practice of spirituality. As environmental ethicists have called us to reconsider the human-Earth relationship so that the planet is not seen as simply an endless supply of resources to fill human wants and needs, so these essays call us to reconsider spiritual practice as it relates to Earth's ecology. Rather than viewing spirituality as an escape from the material world, the authors describe the embodiment of the God-quest within the human-nature relationship. Drawing on diverse disciplinary perspectives, these essays examine a variety of topics, including the relationship between Earth and humans in the Bible, the role of nature's beauty in Christian spirituality, the practice of Christian discernment and contemplation in light of the natural sciences, the role of nature in liturgical prayer, and others. These essays consider how scholarship in Christian spirituality can contribute to re-imaging faith in ways that better cherish the Earth's fragile beauty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salem Goldworth Bland (1859-1950) was among the most significant religious leaders in Canadian history. A Methodist and, later, United Church minister, Bland's long career and widespread influence made him a leading figure in the popularizing of liberal theology, social reform, and the Social Gospel movement. He was also a man who struggled with the polarities of evangelical faith and worldly culture, and who sought a unifying world-view in the mentoring of Sir J. William Dawson in the sciences, George Monro Grant in public affairs, and John Watson in philosophy. The View from the Murney Tower is a two-volume biography of Salem Bland by Richard Allen, author of The Social Passion: Religion and Reform in Canada, 1914-28. This first volume begins with Bland's upbringing in the home of an educated industrialist turned preacher. It goes on to explore his emergence as a liberating mind and eloquent speaker prepared to support new currents of scientific and social thought, as well as to discuss their implications for Christian faith and life. Allen concludes this first volume with Bland's departure from central Canada for the west in 1903, by which time he had become a somewhat controversial figure amongst conservative evangelicals throughout the country. More than just biography, however, The View from the Murney Tower is also an examination of progressive religion in late-Victorian Canada, a time in which Darwinism and other Biblical, social, and intellectual controversies were profoundly affecting the growth of a young nation.
