Book excerpt: Recent results of strange and strangeonium mesons are presented. The data come from a high sensitivity study (4.1 ev/nb) of K−p interactions at 11 GeV/c using the LASS spectrometer at SLAC. The complete leading orbitally-excited K* series up through J/sup P/ = 5− and a substantial number of the expected underlying states are observed decaying into K−.pi., anti K3°.pi.pi.−, and K eta final states, and new measurements are made of their masses, widths, and branching ratios. Production of strangeonium states via hypercharge exchange is observed into K3°K3°, K−K+, and K3°K/sup + -/.pi./sup - +/ final states. The leading orbitally-excited phi series through J/sup P/ = 3− is clearly seen and evidence is presented for additional high spin structure in the 2.2 GeV/c2 region. No f2(1720) is observed. The K3°K/sup + -/.pi./sup - +/ spectrum is dominated by 1/sup +/(K* anti K + anti K* K) production in the region below 1.6 GeV/c2. These results are compared with data on the same systems produced by different production mechanisms. 12 refs., 28 figs.

Book Synopsis Meson Spectroscopy with Instantons in Constituent Quark Models by : Vijaya Kumar Basavarajappa
Download or read book Meson Spectroscopy with Instantons in Constituent Quark Models written by Vijaya Kumar Basavarajappa and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory of strong interactions. Since the exact form of confinement of quarks from QCD is not known constituent quark modes were developed incorporating the basic features of the QCD. Mesons are the very fundamental particles in hadron physics. Hence, a deep understanding of the internal structure of the mesons is of crucial importance for explaining properties concerning more complex systems. In this work, non-relativistic and relativistic constituent quark models have been developed including instantons as a short range nonperturbative gluonic effect. The total energy or the mass of the meson is obtained by calculating the energy eigen values of the Hamiltonian in the harmonic-oscillator basis.

Book Synopsis The Hadron Mass Spectrum by : E. Klempt
Download or read book The Hadron Mass Spectrum written by E. Klempt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hadron Mass Spectrum covers the proceedings of the Rheinfels Workshop on the Hadron Mass Spectrum, held in St. Goar, Germany on September 3-6, 1990. The book focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in hadron spectroscopy. The selection first offers information on strange meson and strangeonium spectroscopy and strangeonium production from LASS. The book also takes a look at the status of strange meson spectroscopy, including status of the spectroscopy, systematics of the level structure, and contributions from LASS. The publication examines the scalar meson enigma and two photon couplings of scalar and tensor mesons. The manuscript also touches on rhoprimes, omegaprimes, and glueballs; meson production mechanisms and selection criteria for cryptoexotic states; and light meson spectroscopy and threshold effects. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in hadron mass spectrum.
Book Synopsis Hadron Spectroscopy and the Confinement Problem by : D.V. Bugg
Download or read book Hadron Spectroscopy and the Confinement Problem written by D.V. Bugg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meeting on Hadron Spectroscopy and the Confinement Problem took place from June 27 to July 8, 1995. The first four days were at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London and the last six at the University College of Swansea, Wales. The reason for the split sites was a question of accomodating the 54 students and 12 lecturers. However, it was enjoyed by all concerned, providing the opportunity to sample the nightlife of London one week and enjoy the delightful coastal area around Swansea the following week. The meeting immediately preceded the Hadron '95 conference in Manchester. The contents of this volume run roughly parallel to the order of the lectures. Martin Faessler's brief and that of Madjid Boutemeur was to review experimental tech niques as well as physics results. We have tried to review all the areas which are currently active experimentally. This means mostly Light Meson Spectroscopy. However, Simon Capstick gave us a welcome review of Baryon Spectroscopy and the coming CEBAF program. This is an opportunity to thank NATO for their generous financial support, and also the two host institutions for excellent coordination and an enjoyable stay.
Book Synopsis Meson Spectroscopy in the Framework of Constituent Quark Models by : Antony Prakash Monteiro
Download or read book Meson Spectroscopy in the Framework of Constituent Quark Models written by Antony Prakash Monteiro and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexity of quantum chromodynamics in the non-perturbative domain forces physicist to resort to models in order to describe the phenomena of intermediate energy physics and hence this book develops three different quark models to study light and some heavy mesons: a non relativistic quark model with one-gluon-exchange potential(OGEP) and Instanton-Induced Interaction (III); a semi-relativistic quark model with OGEP and III where the confinement of the quark is modeled with the relativistic harmonic model; a relativistic model where the features of the two previous models are supplemented with the introduction of gluon confinement and thus confined one-gluon-exchange potential (COGEP). Both tensor and spin-orbit parts of the interactions are taken into account in all the three models. It begins with an introduction to the quark model of hadrons covering the SU(3) symmetry in chapter 1 and it discusses in detail the constituent quark models in chapter 2. The three models and a description on decays are developed in chapters 3 and 4. The results and conclusions are presented in chapters 5 and 6. This book predicts mass spectra and certain decays of light and some heavy mesons.
Book Synopsis Flavor Physics for the Millennium by : Jonathan L. Rosner
Download or read book Flavor Physics for the Millennium written by Jonathan L. Rosner and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 883 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the broad subject of flavor physics, embracing the question of what distinguishes one type of elementary particles from another. The articles range from the forefront of formal theory (treating the physics of extra dimensions) to details of particle detectors. Although special emphasis is placed on the physics of kaons, charmed and beauty particles, top quarks, and neutrinos, the articles also dealing with electroweak physics, quantum chromodynamics, supersymmetry, and dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. Violations of fundamental symmetries such as time reversal invariance are discussed in the context of neutral kaons, beauty particles, electric dipole moments, and parity violation in atoms. The physics of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and of quark masses are described in some detail, both from the standpoint of present and future experimental knowledge and from a more fundamental viewpoint, where physicists are still searching for the correct theory.
