Although he is severely autistic and nearly nonverbal, Tito’s ability to communicate through his extraordinary writing is astonishing. At the age of three, Tito was diagnosed with severe autism. But his mother, with boundless hope and determination, read to him and taught him to write in English. She also challenged him to write his own stories. The result of their efforts is this remarkable book—written when he was eight to eleven years old—comprised of profound and startling philosophical prose and poetry. During a New York Times interview, Tito scrawled on a yellow pad, “I need to write . . . It has become a part of me.”

Book excerpt: From the best-selling author and rewilding pioneer Isabella Tree, When We Went Wild is a heartwarming, sustainably printed picture book about the benefits of letting nature take the lead, inspired by real-life rewilding projects. Nancy and Jake are farmers. They raise their cows and pigs, and grow their crops. They use a lot of big machines to help them, and spray a lot of chemicals to get rid of the weeds and the pests. That's what all good farmers do, isn't it? And yet, there is no wildlife living on their farm. The animals look sad. Even the trees look sad! One day, Nancy has an idea... what if they stopped using all the machines, and all the chemicals, and instead they went wild? The author’s own experience of rewilding her estate at Knepp in West Sussex, England, has influenced conservation techniques around the world that are bringing nature back to the countryside and bringing threatened species back from the brink. Ivy Kids brings you beautiful, sustainably printed books to rewild your child. They are hopeful, joyful stories and nonfiction about nature and the environment that are charmingly illustrated and printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, locally in the US, and using renewable energy. Praise for Wilding, the author’s best-selling memoir: “In a story that is part personal memoir, part work of conservation, Tree reveals the capacity of the wild to reclaim the land—as long as humans step out of the way.” —Smithsonian, “The Ten Best Science Books of 2018” “Wilding is both a timely and important book.” —Tim Flannery, The New York Review of Books

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polly Peebles is the only child of eccentric parents. She is eight years old and very bright. The story is about the theft Polly's special necklace which was given to her by her great-great Uncle Cosmo. It was taken from her bedroom windowsill by a very strange bird. This she is told by a talking tree named Ebenezer, which grows outside her bedroom window. Adventures begin when Polly, who lives in New Zealand, goes to spend the summer holidays with her two cousins, who have been given a canoe for Christmas Polly, the two boys and their four friends meet at the river to try it out. When Polly's turn comes the canoe tips her out and when the others try to rescue her, they are all sucked under the water to a strange world. There they meet a strange ancient little man named Caradus, who tells them they are there to help Polly find the nineteen beads which make up the blue necklace. The beads are magic beads and have been taken to places all around the world. And so the journey begins They travel by unusual means; a weird elevator,a strange plane and train, a magic carpet, a rocket, flying horses, on the backs of whales and by balloons. Their search takes them to NewYork, Paris, Rome, Zimbabwe, The Great Wall of China, a cave under a Scottish castle, to Athens and a Greek Island, San Francisco. Moscow and London. Caradus appears during their search to give them clues. He can become invisible when the occasion presents itself. A spider called Spence also drops down when they least expect it, also to give clues. Caradus has a rather brainless evil cousin, who with his equally brainless friend keep turning up where-ever the children are, as they want the magic beads and the magic wand that came to the children's rescue in Paris, and they try a bit of kidnapping. After a journey around the world, experiencing some wonderful adventures, mystery and magic, all nineteen beads are found and the blue necklace is completed. Of course they all hope the magic from the beads will rub off onto them when they return to school. At the very least they have learnt a great deal about the world and the exciting places they have visited. However they don't know who will actually believe their story!

Book excerpt: Plant-based is best for health, go vegan to help save the planet, eat less meat... Almost every day we are bombarded with the seemingly incontrovertible message that we must reduce our consumption of meat and dairy - or eliminate them from our diets altogether. But what if the pervasive message that the plant-based diet will improve our health and save the planet is misleading - or even false? What if removing animal foods from our diet is a serious threat to human health, and a red herring in the fight against climate change. In THE GREAT PLANT-BASED CON, Jayne Buxton demonstrates that each of these 'what-ifs' is, in fact, a reality. Drawing on the work of numerous health experts and researchers, she uncovers how the separate efforts of a constellation of individuals, companies and organisations are leading us down a dietary road that will have severe repercussions for our health and wellbeing, and for the future of the planet. THE GREAT PLANT-BASED CON is neither anti-plant nor anti-vegan - it is a call for us to take an honest look at the facts about human diets and their effect on the environment. Shocking and eye-opening, this book outlines everything you need to know to make more informed decisions about the food you choose to eat.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who Extinguished the Fire And Other Poems is an up-to-date collection of Turyatemba’s verse. The new collection comprises fourteen groupings of poems on a variety of subjects. "The poet has penned poetry of the commonplace—retained the ordinary, local flavours that could be lost when trying to get sophisticated. Turyatemba defies the myth that poetry is complicated and cannot be understood. We can easily recognize both our private and public systems in this collection.” Dr. Mildred K. Barya. “In crafting his poems, Turyatemba makes idiom his mainstay and in so doing he breathes life into the most common sayings. His poems work like riddles throwing perplexing questions at the reader. He truly is in deep conversation with his audience. His wide exploration of the African condition makes an important contribution to both our literary and philosophical thinking.” - Dr. Susan Kiguli. “Coming from a literary student of Economics, these poems are very rich in one of the essential features of poetry – economy. Also rich in figurative or picture language, most of the poems are witty depictions of the nice and nasty contradictions in the physical environment as well as in the personal, cultural, social and political contexts explored by the poet.” - Professor Timothy Wangusa. Cover design by Grace Bithum and Robert Bigirwenkya.
