When Jesus said to us, Take no thought for the morrow, He did not mean (as many of His parables make plain) that we should make no provision, through prevision, for the future. What He did mean was that we were not to spend our time in anxiety about the future. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ship of the Soul, and Other Papers "Be sober, be vigilant." We are this first day of the year like a fleet of ships about to set sail on a new voyage. As yet we lie in harbour, making ready for the ocean-way, and a motley group we are. Some are great ships, some small; some are newly launched, and some have borne for many years the winds and dangers of the deep seas of life. Some know the great water-paths, and others have no experience. But one and all seek happiness; though what the happiness is, and of what kind, varies as varies the character and the past of the captain of each ship. Each has the Happy Isles before him, and the aim to reach their shore. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Casuals of the Sea: The Voyage of a Soul I do not propose to spell everything Bert says with the above phonetic accuracy. But that is how he talked. He seemed a little startled by the peculiar scanning of the last line. It seemed wrong somehow, left him with a chestful of breath. He said that last line again, to make sure. He looked out of the corner of his eye at the grinning comrades about him and sniffed impassively. He felt under no obligation to give the at? Air of Hohenlinden any further notice. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ship of Stars It is with a peculiar pleasure and, I dare to hope, with some appropriateness that I dedicate to you this story of the West Country which claims you with pride. To be sure, the places here written of will be found in no map of your own or any neighboring constituency. A visitor may discover Nannizabul'oe, but only to wonder what has become of the lighthouse, or seek along the sand-hills without hitting on Tredin nis. Yet much of the tab is true in a fashion, even to fact. One or two things which happen to Sir Harry Vyell did actually happen to a bet ter man, who lived and hunted foxes not a hun dred miles from the model borough of Lis keard, and are told of him in my friend Mr. W. Book Synopsis On the Soul by : Aristotle

Book excerpt: '. . . the more honourable animals have been allotted a more honourable soul. . . ' What is the nature of the soul? It is this question that Aristotle sought to answer in De Anima (On the Soul). In doing so he offers a psychological theory that encompasses not only human beings but all living beings. Its basic thesis, that the soul is the form of an organic body, sets it in sharp contrast with both Pre-Socratic physicalism and Platonic dualism. On the Soul contains Aristotle's definition of the soul, and his explanations of nutrition, perception, cognition, and animal self-motion. The general theory in De Anima is augmented in the shorter works of Parva Naturalia, which deal with perception, memory and recollection, sleep and dreams, longevity, life-cycles, and psycho-physiology. This new translation brings together all of Aristotle's extant and complementary psychological works, and adds as a supplement ancient testimony concerning his lost writings dealing with the soul. The introduction by Fred D. Miller, Jr. explains the central place of the soul in Aristotle's natural science, the unifying themes of his psychological theory, and his continuing relevance for modern philosophy and psychology.
