Download or read book Ancient Carved Ambers in the J. Paul Getty Museum written by Faya Causey and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2012, this catalogue presents fifty-six Etruscan, Greek, and Italic carved ambers from the Getty Museum's collection—the second largest body of this material in the United States and one of the most important in the world. The ambers date from about 650 to 300 BC. The catalogue offers full description of the pieces, including typology, style, chronology, condition, and iconography. Each piece is illustrated. The catalogue is preceded by a general introduction to ancient amber (which was also published in 2012 as a stand-alone print volume titled Amber and the Ancient World). Through exquisite visual examples and vivid classical texts, this book examines the myths and legends woven around amber—its employment in magic and medicine, its transport and carving, and its incorporation into jewelry, amulets, and other objects of prestige. This publication highlights a group of remarkable amber carvings at the J. Paul Getty Museum. This catalogue was first published in 2012 at museumcatalogues.getty.edu/amber/. The present online edition of this open-access publication was migrated in 2019 to www.getty.edu/publications/ambers/; it features zoomable, high-resolution photography; free PDF, EPUB, and Kindle/MOBI downloads of the book; and JPG downloads of the catalogue images.

Book Synopsis Melatonin, Neuroprotective Agents and Antidepressant Therapy by : Francisco López-Muñoz
Download or read book Melatonin, Neuroprotective Agents and Antidepressant Therapy written by Francisco López-Muñoz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-16 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a guidebook for clinicians who are involved in treating depressive patients and also serves the research scientists who are working on the psychopharmacological mechanisms of antidepressant actions and psychopathological mechanisms underlying mood disorders. Mood disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BPD) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD) are the most disabling disorders that are among the most expensive of all medical illnesses. The pathophysiology of mood disorders is very complex and involves many mechanisms like circadian rhythm disruption, sleep abnormalities, melatonin rhythm abnormalities and alterations in melatonin receptor mechanisms, abnormalities in monoaminergic neurotransmitter mechanisms, glutamatergic release mechanisms, hippocampal neurogenesis, and abnormal immune and cytokine release mechanisms. Many antidepressants that are in clinical use today including the recently introduced novel agents like agomelatine or other antidepressants cause clinical remission by resynchronizing disrupted circadian rhythms and melatonin receptor functions, enhancing monoaminergic neurotransmission, promoting hippocampal neurogenesis, and regulating immune mechanisms. This book explains various etiological factors that are involved in the pathogenesis of mood disorders and the mechanisms of therapeutic actions of antidepressants including the recently introduced agomelatine and other antidepressants that exhibit rapid onset of action with greater efficacy and fewer side effects. .
Book Synopsis Analytical and Chromatographic Techniques in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry by : Donald M. Wieland
Download or read book Analytical and Chromatographic Techniques in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry written by Donald M. Wieland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1906, Michael T. Sweet first developed the chromatographic method by using an adsorbant to separate pigments. Since that time, the technological advances in TLC and HPLC have brought about new definitions of purity in parallel with the advances. Radiopharmaceutical chemistry is especially dependent on the chromat ographic technique because of the relatively small amount of material in most radiopharmaceuticals-often so small that the usual physical methods of analytical chemistry cannot be used. As a result, this collection of papers represents the key to successful radiopharmaceutical development by setting the standard for the pres of radiochemical purity. ent-day definition William C. Eckelman, Ph.D. Diagnostics Associate Director The Squibb Institute for Medical Research New Brunswick, New Jersey Preface The chapters herein are updated and expanded versions of presentations that the authors made at a symposium held on June 4, 1984 in Los Angeles, California under the sponsorship of the Radiopharmaceutical Science Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine. All manuscripts were refereed. The intent of the symposium organizers was to enlist participants who work on a day-to-day basis with the analytical and chromatographic techniques to be discussed at the symposium. We feel confident that this distillation of hands-on experience will be of value to graduate students as well as experienced researchers in radio pharmaceutical chemistry and related fields which use radiotracer methodology.
