Download or read book Concealed God written by Stefan Einhorn and published by Templeton Foundation Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highly acclaimed in Sweden where it was first published in both hardcover and paperback editions, A Concealed God poses two intriguing questions: •Does God truly exist? •If so, is the concept of God logical and in agreement with the knowledge of the world that science has provided to date? The God presented by most religions doesn't make sense in today's world; we have little room for miracles. Furthermore, there are irreconcilable aspects in the world's religions. Must we abandon our faith or belief in God? Perhaps not, says popular Swedish thinker Stefan Einhorn. We can behave as scientists do when they run experiments only to obtain contradictory results. They ask themselves whether there might not be a logical conclusion that binds all the results together and leads to the most probable explanation. Einhorn hypothesizes that if God truly exists, then many different religions would have discovered this. He finds a common denominator in the concept of a hidden God in seven major religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. But even with this shared belief, can we know if God exists? Did humankind create the idea of God to answer the unexplainable? What about evil and suffering, the absence of meaning in life, loneliness and insecurity? And most importantly, how do we search for a concealed God? Most religions share common principles for the search for "that which is concealed," including meditation, contemplation, and prayer. Whatever route is chosen, the search for God may bring us some answers. Einhorn concludes that two themes are central to the search: one is that God is both concealed and simultaneously omnipresent; the other is that only with utter humility and an awareness of our inability to fully understand may we approach the divine. In the end, there are no definite answers. But the search sheds light on the many paths to enlightenment offered by the world's religions.

This book is a compliation of articles which have been printed in dozens of public newspapers and church newsletters showing how well the evidence from science supports a Biblical creation viewpoint. Permission is granted for others to do the same. Also included is a sample of the many letters to the editor that resulted and the impact upon readers. This book is divided into six sections corresponding to the different scientific disciplines dealing with the evidence for, or relevance of, creation. Each section contains individual articles about evidence for creation from these varied scientific disciplines. Anything in this book can be copied and shared with others or put to use as suggested in the last section by printing it in local newspapers. The short chapters between the Searcharticles provide a running narrative of how this book came to be, how God has used my life and this material in miraculous ways, and how you can put the same information to use.

Download or read book Living with a Wild God written by Barbara Ehrenreich and published by Twelve. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Nickel and Dimed comes a brave, frank, and exquisitely written memoir that will change the way you see the world. Barbara Ehrenreich is one of the most important thinkers of our time. Educated as a scientist, she is an author, journalist, activist, and advocate for social justice. In Living With a Wild God, she recounts her quest-beginning in childhood-to find ""the Truth"" about the universe and everything else: What's really going on? Why are we here? In middle age, she rediscovered the journal she had kept during her tumultuous adolescence, which records an event so strange, so cataclysmic, that she had never, in all the intervening years, written or spoken about it to anyone. It was the kind of event that people call a ""mystical experience""-and, to a steadfast atheist and rationalist, nothing less than shattering. In Living With a Wild God, Ehrenreich reconstructs her childhood mission, bringing an older woman's wry and erudite perspective to a young girl's impassioned obsession with the questions that, at one point or another, torment us all. The result is both deeply personal and cosmically sweeping-a searing memoir and a profound reflection on science, religion, and the human condition. With her signature combination of intellectual rigor and uninhibited imagination, Ehrenreich offers a true literary achievement-a work that has the power not only to entertain but amaze.

Download or read book Speak the Truth written by Carmen LaBerge and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animosity, confrontation, confusion—from cable news right down to our kids' classrooms, Christians are waking up to a world very different from the one we once knew. We are quick to blame everyone else from Hollywood to Washington, but it is not the culture's fault God is sidelined. If God is missing from the conversation, then it is because His people have failed to represent Him there. Christians have been far too silent for far too long, retreating out of fear of offending someone or the unpleasantness of stepping outside our comfort zone. When Christians have spoken up, too often it has not been in ways that honor Jesus. We have inserted our own opinion, obscuring the beauty and truth of the Gospel in favor of our political, ideological, or personal agenda. It's time for us to embrace our calling as Christ's ambassadors. To do that, we must be equipped to engage the world in ways that bring the mind of Christ to bear on the matters of the day. Carmen LaBerge's Speak the Truth seeks to give believers the confidence to speak the truth and the tools to re-engage in the culture and address the problems we are facing today by boldly—and lovingly—bringing God back into every conversation
Book Synopsis Seeking Wisdom from God by : Thomas H. Walker
Download or read book Seeking Wisdom from God written by Thomas H. Walker and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeking Wisdom from God presents a fresh and unique look at some Biblical topics. Because knowledge increases faster than wisdom, we have an abundance of Biblical knowledge and a shortage of Biblical wisdom. Knowledge has increased, due to our advances in understanding the ancient Hebrew and Greek languages coupled with the dissecting of Scripture using historical, textual, and literary analysis. Tragically, Christianity looks nothing like its inception on the Day of Pentecost. Why are there over 20,000 different denominations? Why do I still sin daily? Have we replaced Divine Illumination with historical, literary and textual analysis? If Adam had not sinned, the world's population would have reached 100 billion in 1,836 years. How are we all going to fit on this planet when eternity begins? Why did God plant a fruit-yielding tree in Eden and then forbid Adam and Eve from eating of its fruit? "This was a very good book by a man of great wisdom" Five Stars, LibraryThing Reviewer "It's such an eye opener book" Five Stars, LibraryThing Reviewer "This is an excellent book for Bible study. It brings Biblical truths into a new perspective" Five Stars, LibraryThing Reviewer "a marvelous fusion of faith and scholarship" -- First Editing
