Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, The Schism of Unification Church and the Tree of Life (Part I), is a revised version of the 4th volume of the History of the Korean Messianic Movement published in 2016 and contains the core of the extensive data used in the 5th volume, A Study of the Canonization the Unification Movement(2017); the 6th volume, Unification Church and the Phenomenon of the Only Begotten Daughter (2017); the 7th volume, The Veritable Records of Unification Church Schism (2021); and the 8th volume, The only-begotten daughter phenomenon seen from the Unification Principle (2023). This book also contains content not covered in the first edition and the changed situation of Unification Church since 2016. Nonetheless, I put the word (part 1) in the title because the detailed story of the schism of Unification Church after the founder’s Seunghwa, which could not be contained in this book on the page, will be covered soon in the other book. The reason why I titled this book "The Schism of Unification Church and the Tree of Life" is that although the division of the Unification Movement caused by the failure of Han Hak-ja to do her responsibilities led to tragic results, providence and anti-providence, principle and non-principle, good and evil were distinguished during the process of division, and, certainly, the Unification Movement will soon be overcome and enter the path of revitalization by the Tree of Life of the heavenly lineage that has risen from the dead. This book focused on comparing the identities and deeds of the major figures identified in the process of Unification Church's split, namely Han Hak-ja, Moon Hyung-jin, and Moon Hyun-jin, based on the identity of the founder and the Unification Principle, which is the core teaching. Through this book, readers will be able to accurately understand the causes, processes, and consequences of Unification Church schism and will be able to predict the future. In the conclusion of the first edition, I mentioned that the phenomenon of Han Hak-ja's only begotten daughter is a new religious phenomenon with a different identity from the phenomenon of Unification Church of the founder. Although divided, I predicted that Unification Church would not collapse but would go the path of revitalization. and that the third son of the founder, Moon Hyun-jin, would lead the revitalization. In retrospect, my prediction was correct to some extent. Han Hak-ja, who was the cause of the schism in Unification Church, became one with the fallen archangel figures who destroyed the providence of the True Family and created a new religion to worship the only begotten daughter, Heavenly Parents Holy Community, which clashed with the Unification Principle. On the other hand, Moon Hyun-jin, who was expelled from the Unification Movement by Han Hak-ja and the anti-Moon Hyun-jin forces who tried to wipe out his providential mission, won nearly a decade of persecution and more than 30 lawsuits, and declared that he would re-establish the ideal of the True Family and True Parents, which had been incomplete due to the fall of Han Hak-ja, and dedicate the original Foundation Day before Heaven. As time passes, the inner story and truth of Unification Church schism will become clearer. I wrote this book from both the perspectives of a new religion researcher, an objective observer, and an insider, a believer. The collection and analysis of data to understand the facts and inner story of the incident was done from the perspective of an observer, and the internal causes of Unification Church split, changes in identity and doctrine, and the nature and religious significance of various events and situations that are difficult to understand for a simple observer was described from an insider's point of view.

Book excerpt: The book consolidates systems thinking as a new world-hypothesis that is already suggesting itself behind the advancement of quantum mechanics and Ashby’s cybernetics. In particular, it shows how Einstein’s misgivings about quantum mechanics boil down to his persistence in defending the principle of contiguity at the root of the modern cosmology and, in relation to neo-cybernetics, the book rediscovers Ashby’s theory of adaptive behaviour enabling a new synthesis between physiology, psychology and ethology that has implications for systems practice. Furthermore, this new “cosmology” comes with a new “anthropology” that informs utopics, the science of utopic systems, and sheds new light on the actual founding fathers of the domain of human science. In particular, the book provides an understanding of how our human world works and how it is being constituted by utopic systems that look into the future to realize something possible. Finally, it points the way to the future unification of knowledge bringing together systems philosophy and systems science given that world-hypothesis is what makes logically possible the development and consolidation of all the different domains of science.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The division of the Church or Schism that took place between 1378 and 1417 had no precedent in Christianity. No conclave since the twelfth century had acted as had those in April and September 1378, electing two concurrent popes. This crisis was neither an issue of the authority claimed by the pope and the Holy Roman Emperor nor an issue of authority and liturgy. The Great Western Schism was unique because it forced upon Christianity a rethinking of the traditional medieval mental frame. It raised question of personality, authority, human fallibility, ecclesiastical jurisdiction and taxation, and in the end responsibility in holding power and authority. This collection presents the broadest range of experiences, center and periphery, clerical and lay, male and female, Christian and Muslim. Theology, including exegesis of Scripture, diplomacy, French literature, reform, art, and finance all receive attention.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon has said that he commissioned the World Scripture series based upon the firm conviction that religions have a key role to play in building a world of lasting peace in the twenty-first century. Indeed, in compiling an authoratitive selection of his own teachings, Rev. Moon has insisted on the inclusion of the sacred writings of the world. World Scripture and the Teachings of Sun Myung Moon builds on the foundation of World Scripture: A Comparative Anthology of Sacred d104s (1991), a pioneering work that examines the scriptures of the world's religions and illuminates their universal teachings and common ground. For the many people who have come to know and respect rev. Moon for his interreligious work and his efforts for world peace, these pages offer a doorway into his thought. For those who are already well acquainted with his teachings, this book reveals the rich connections between his thought and the universal heritage of the world's religions.

WALL STREET JOURNAL, CNN, FOX NEWS, NPR, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC and countless others have featured cover stories on NASA's KEPLER SPACECRAFT and its epic mission to discover other Earths. Kepler's science team has now identified over three thousand five hundred alien planets, but their mission is much more ambitious. Of these new found worlds, five have been confirmed as orbiting within their star's habitable zone. NASA is on the brink of their holy grail: an Earth-size world basking in the warm tropical glow of a Sun-like star capable of water oceans and breathable air. This book empowers Christians with not only an exciting understanding of the mission, but how to counteract the god-less interpretations heard on media-outlets around the world when NASA announces the discovery of other Earths. Prepare yourself with a Christian Spaceview.

Her broad and close acquaintance with the field of Armenian art history covered many fields of Armenian artistic creativity. Nira Stone made notable contributions to the study of Armenian manuscript painting, mosaics, and other forms of artistic expression. Of particular interests are her researches on this art in its historical and religious contexts, such as the study of apocryphal elements in Armenian Gospel iconography, the place of the mosaics of Jerusalem in the context of mosaics in Byzantine Palestine, and of the interplay between religious movements, such as hesychasm, and Armenian manuscript painting.

Book excerpt: Christianity is presented here not as an abstract teaching to which mental assent is given, but as a life which unites separate persons in a way which can be said to be similar to the unity of the Persons of the Holy Trinity. Following the teaching of Khomiakov the author sees in "the denial of the Church the most characteristic feature of both Roman Catholicism and Protestantism." The teaching of Leo Tolstoy is seen to exemplify most clearly an understandng of Churchless Christianity. He concludes, "It must be considered the most vital necessity of the present time that Christ created precisely the Church and that it is absurd to separate Christianity from the Church..." This work was originally written in Russian in 1912, shortly before the beginning of World War I and the Bolshevik revolution. The author, an Archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, subsequently gave his life for his faith in a Soviet labor camp.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harvard psychologist and philosopher William James' The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature explores the nature of religion and, in James' observation, its divorce from science when studied academically. After publication in 1902 it quickly became a canonical text of philosophy and psychology, remaining in print through the entire century. "Scientific theories are organically conditioned just as much as religious emotions are; and if we only knew the facts intimately enough, we should doubtless see 'the liver' determining the dicta of the sturdy atheist as decisively as it does those of the Methodist under conviction anxious about his soul. When it alters in one way the blood that percolates it, we get the Methodist, when in another way, we get the atheist form of mind."
