Book excerpt: They’ve known each other for years… Born and raised on adjacent family vineyards, and inseparable since childhood, there’s not much Belle Davis and Dante Casellati don’t know about each other. That crush Belle had on him in her teens? Dante knows about it. Dante’s confirmed bachelor stance? Belle’s heard it all before. And each believes the other is happy with the status quo. Used to pushing aside her own dreams and desires out of duty to her ailing mother, Belle dismisses all hope of her and Dante ever being in the same place at the same time emotionally, until Dante’s prodigal brother returns to Kurrajong Crossing and makes a play for her. Dante’s jealousy finally prompts him to act on the attraction to Belle he’s been ignoring for years. Taking their relationship one step further, life is bliss…until tragedy strikes Belle’s family. As tensions rise and hope of a happy outcome fades fast, Belle’s guilt estranges her and Dante for the first time in their lives. Can they salvage their love, or will harsh words and the fear of truly letting one another in ruin everything?

Download or read book Tennyson’s Poems written by R. H. Winnick and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Tennyson’s Poems: New Textual Parallels, R. H. Winnick identifies more than a thousand previously unknown instances in which Tennyson phrases of two or three to as many as several words are similar or identical to those occurring in prior works by other hands—discoveries aided by the proliferation of digitized texts and the related development of powerful search tools over the three decades since the most recent major edition of Tennyson’s poems was published. Each of these instances may be deemed an allusion (meant to be recognized as such and pointing, for definable purposes, to a particular antecedent text), an echo (conscious or not, deliberate or not, meant to be noticed or not, meaningful or not), or merely accidental. Unless accidental, Winnick writes, these new textual parallels significantly expand our knowledge both of Tennyson’s reading and of his thematic intentions and artistic technique. Coupled with the thousand-plus textual parallels previously reported by Christopher Ricks and other scholars, he says, they suggest that a fundamental and lifelong aspect of Tennyson’s art was his habit of echoing any work, ancient or modern, which had the potential to enhance the resonance or deepen the meaning of his poems. The new textual parallels Winnick has identified point most often to the King James Bible and to such canonical authors as Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden, Pope, Thomson, Cowper, Shelley, Byron, and Wordsworth. But they also point to many authors rarely if ever previously cited in Tennyson editions and studies, including Michael Drayton, Richard Blackmore, Isaac Watts, Erasmus Darwin, John Ogilvie, Anna Lætitia Barbauld, Letitia Elizabeth Landon, John Wilson, and—with surprising frequency—Felicia Hemans. Tennyson’s Poems: New Textual Parallels is thus a major new resource for Tennyson scholars and students, an indispensable adjunct to the 1987 edition of Tennyson’s complete poems edited by Christopher Ricks.

Book Synopsis A Matter of Trust by : Jasmine Renee

Book excerpt: Nowhere Town, typical of all small towns on the earth realm, had its differences. Paranoia ran the town, especially with Big Brother Murphy controlling it. He delighted in painting with words chaos throughout the town by banishing both the Bikers Guild and the Cosmos Underground while controlling the townspeople’s food supply. Murphy, a nonhuman, had a knack for controlling the weather to meet his needs. It was eating dessert to him as he continued poking at the town’s human frailty. His project was to create a clone town. Humans wouldn’t care. He would make war clones. They loved fighting. The blueprint was there, and it was time to implement it. The day he chose, he believed nothing could stop him, until he caught sight of the two Sapphire Stars from an opposing realm—his archenemy. Would they bring destruction to Murphy? What about the humans living there? A town once filled with hate and greed now stood amid a blizzard. The sounds of songs wrote in the 1960s seemed to advance those of the Sapphire Stars’ movement. How do they know that music, the music of love and peace? Love and peace, an echo from decades long past. The hippie movement and Woodstock—now a memory soon to fade completely, if Murphy wins. Would the humans join the fight for love and peace, or escape in the shadows of their life?
