This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special re-print edition of the famous work "The Royal Past Time of Cock Fighting" is a facsimile of one of the earliest English language books ever written on Game Fowl and cock fighting. Written in 1709 by an individual identified only as "R.H., A Lover of the Sport," this very rare book was later reprinted in a numbered limited edition of only one hundred copies in May of 1899. This special reprint was created utilizing one of the very few surviving copies of that special 1899 facsimile edition. Subtitled "the Art of Breeding, Feeding, Fighting and Curing cocks of the Game. Published purely for the good, and benefit of all such as take delight in that Royal, and War-like Sport," this interesting historic title offers a very rare look at Game Fowl breeding and the sport of cock fighting as it was practiced in England over three hundred years ago. Note: This edition is a perfect facsimile of the original edition and is not set in a modern typeface. As a result, some type characters and images might suffer from slight imperfections or minor shadows in the page background. This book is presented as part of large series of educational material on the history and raising of numerous chicken breeds. The material presented herein contains information on the sport of cock fighting and is intended to be strictly for educational purposes with the purpose of enlightening Game Fowl breeders about the history of their breed. Publication of the material is neither an endorsement, nor a criticism of its contents.

Book excerpt: The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. This collection reveals the history of English common law and Empire law in a vastly changing world of British expansion. Dominating the legal field is the Commentaries of the Law of England by Sir William Blackstone, which first appeared in 1765. Reference works such as almanacs and catalogues continue to educate us by revealing the day-to-day workings of society. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Book excerpt: Breeding gamefowls is a complex and intricate process that requires a solid understanding of the principles of genetics. You need to grasp how DNA works and how it determines the traits of your gamefowls. DNA is a molecule that stores the information for the development and function of living organisms. For instance, human DNA contains the instructions for all the characteristics of a person. Gamefowl DNA operates in a similar way. Genes are segments of DNA that code for specific traits. We learned about genes in school and how they are inherited from parents to offspring. Different breeding methods aim to manipulate the genes of gamefowls to produce desirable outcomes. However, breeding is not a random or arbitrary activity. It is a scientific and systematic approach that involves careful planning and prediction. You can experiment with different combinations of gamefowls, but you can only achieve success if you can anticipate the results with reasonable accuracy and minimize the risks. The purpose of this eBook is to educate the average gamefowl enthusiast, as well as the beginner breeder, on how to select gamefowls based on their genetic potential, how to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of different breeding methods, and how to apply the best breeding method for gamefowls according to the author’s opinion.

Book excerpt: This division first saw light in Jhansi on 1st January 1942, under the command of Major-General R.A.Savory who had come from the 4th Indian Division in which he had been a brigade commander at Sidi Barrani and Keren (Eritrea). At first there were virtually no troops but gradually the brigades began to assemble - 1st, 37th and 49th, all of which would remain to the end of the war. Apart from the presence of the 82nd ATk Regt for a brief period in the very early days, the only British units to serve in the division were 158th Field Regiment RA and 1st Seaforths. In May the division took up station on the frontiers of Assam and Burma, the only force between the Japanese and India. The GOC s operation order included the intention: 23 Ind Div will (a) stop the Japanese invading INDIA, and (b) defeat them if they do. For the next two years and three months the division fought in the jungles of Burma and for all but five months of that time they were front line troops. They went through the length of Burma finishing up near Rangoon and in August 1944 they were withdrawn and sent back to India. Casualties totalled 2,910 of whom 605 were killed in action. A year later, just after VJ-Day, they were sent to Malaya and from there to Java to restore order in the Dutch colony and hand it back to the Netherlands. They were engaged in fighting the Indonesian rebels for more than a year, suffering a further 1,377 casualties, 407 of them killed and 162 missing. Summary of Honours and Awards and index. This is a good history which describes vividly the atmosphere of jungle fighting and the savage resistance of the Japanese soldier. On page xvi the author explains the Indian Army ranks and shows the Subedar-Major under the NCO group. This is wrong. The Subedar-Major was the senior Viceroys s Commissioned Officer in the battalion.

Book excerpt: But that's what this is, isn't it? The ultimate bitch fight. When John takes a break from his boyfriend, his accidentally meets the girl of his dreams. Filled with guilt and indecision, he decides there is only one way to straighten this out . . . Mike Bartlett's metrosexual play about love and longing provides us with questions of who we are and who we want to be. John's refusal to fix his identity disturbs and disrupts the lives of those around him in this contemporary tale of sex without nudity and struggle without violence. Mike Bartlett's punchy story takes a playful, candid look at one man's sexuality and the difficulties that arise when you realise you have a choice. Cock premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, on 13 November 2009. It is published here in the Modern Classics series, featuring an introduction by Mark O'Thomas.

American Bex Porter was never one for fairy tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it's adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall - and Bex who finds herself accidentally in love with the heir to the British throne. Nick is wonderful, but he comes with unimaginable baggage: a complicated family, hysterical tabloids tracking his every move, and a public that expected its future king to marry a Brit. On the eve of the most talked-about wedding of the century, Bex looks back on how much she's had to give up for true love... and exactly whose heart she may yet have to break. Praise for The Royal We "Hysterical" -- Entertainment Weekly "Full of love and humor, and delicious in too many ways." -- Emma Straub, New York Times bestselling author "Engrossing and deeply satisfying." -- Jen Doll, author of Save the Date

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of The New York Times's 100 Notable Books of 2020. A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice. "Finely wrought, a master class in the layering of time and contradiction that gives us a deeply imagined, and deeply human, soul." --Rebecca Makkai, The New York Times Book Review From the bestselling author of The Septembers of Shiraz, the story of an Iranian man reckoning with his capacity for love and evil Set in Iran and New York City, Man of My Time tells the story of Hamid Mozaffarian, who is as alienated from himself as he is from the world around him. After decades of ambivalent work as an interrogator with the Iranian regime, Hamid travels on a diplomatic mission to New York, where he encounters his estranged family and retrieves the ashes of his father, whose dying wish was to be buried in Iran. Tucked in his pocket throughout the trip, the ashes propel him into a first-person excavation—full of mordant wit and bitter memory—of a lifetime of betrayal, and prompt him to trace his own evolution from a perceptive boy in love with marbles to a man who, on seeing his own reflection, is startled to encounter someone he no longer recognizes. As he reconnects with his brother and others living in exile, Hamid is forced to reckon with his past, with the insidious nature of violence, and with his entrenchment in a system that for decades ensnared him. Politically complex and emotionally compelling, Man of My Time explores variations of loss—of people, places, ideals, time, and self. This is a novel not only about family and memory but about the interdependence of captor and captive, of citizen and country, of an individual and his or her heritage. With sensitivity and strength, Dalia Sofer conjures the interior lives of the “generation that had borne and inflicted what could not be undone.”
