Book excerpt: Romeo was originally known as Indian Village, dating back to a time when it served as a winter campground for a band of Chippewa Indians. Asahel Bailey was one of the first settlers, arriving in Romeo in 1822, and soon, others followed. The Village of Romeo was platted and named in 1830 and incorporated in 1838. Over the course of the next several decades, more families arrived, homes and businesses were established, and the village began to take shape. This book tells the story of Romeo's evolution from a humble pioneer settlement to a modern community which now welcomes 250,000 visitors to its spectacular Peach Festival each year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Mesmerizing, magical, deeply moving.” —Elif Shafak Expanding on the popular podcast of the same name from On Being Studios, Poetry Unbound offers immersive reflections on fifty powerful poems. In the tumult of our contemporary moment, poetry has emerged as an inviting, consoling outlet with a unique power to move and connect us, to inspire fury, tears, joy, laughter, and surprise. This generous anthology pairs fifty illuminating poems with poet and podcast host Pádraig Ó Tuama’s appealing, unhurried reflections. With keen insight and warm personal anecdotes, Ó Tuama considers each poem’s artistry and explores how its meaning can reach into our own lives. Focusing mainly on poets writing today, Ó Tuama engages with a diverse array of voices that includes Ada Limón, Ilya Kaminsky, Margaret Atwood, Ocean Vuong, Layli Long Soldier, and Reginald Dwayne Betts. Natasha Trethewey meditates on miscegenation and Mississippi; Raymond Antrobus makes poetry out of the questions shot at him by an immigration officer; Martín Espada mourns his father; Marie Howe remembers and blesses her mother’s body; Aimee Nezhukumatathil offers comfort to her child-self. Through these wide-ranging poems, Ó Tuama guides us on an inspiring journey to reckon with self-acceptance, history, independence, parenthood, identity, joy, and resilience. For anyone who has wanted to try their hand at a conversation with poetry but doesn’t know where to start, Poetry Unbound presents a window through which to celebrate the art of being alive.
Book Synopsis The Romeo Affair by : Harry Katzan Jr.
Download or read book The Romeo Affair written by Harry Katzan Jr. and published by . This book was released on 2023-02-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel, as in the previous stories in the series, involves Matt and the General along with others that go out of their way to help people; however, this book involves the Romeo Club, an interesting group of retired men. Romeo stands for Retired Old Men Eating Out. What they do is go out to breakfast every couple of weeks. Most men work 30 years or so and retire, just like that. They are used to getting up early and from then on, it's go go go. Every day. Then just like that, it stops. But there is another thing, once they are retired, they are all the same, regardless if they are generals, presidents, doctors, or professors. Home life is normally good, but not that good. They are used to doing things and helping people. That's why this book is the first edition. If it goes, then we all go. Believe me, in a retired man, you will find a mountain of wisdom.
Book Synopsis The Romeo Peach Festival by : David McLaughlin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1813, Michael Bowerman built a cabin two miles south of what later became Romeo. Bowerman carried a small number of peach pits from his fathers farm in New York, introducing the popular fruit to Macomb County and establishing the roots of todays Westview Orchards. In 1931, hoping for an economic boost, area orchard managers convinced village president Edward Jacob to create a festival. Jacob embraced the idea and traveled to northern Michigan to study the Michigan Cherry Festival in Traverse City. Upon his return, the first annual peach festival was held with much success with the cooperation of local merchants. Held on Labor Day weekend in Romeo, and called the Romeo Peach Festival by the locals, the Michigan Peach Festival has been sponsored by the Lions Club since 1951 and is the second-oldest festival in the state. In honor of the 75th anniversary, a collection of over 200 photographs has been assembled, including images of Peach Queens, the Floral Parade, and the surrounding orchards. Book excerpt: The Light We Lost mixes with a touch of Daisy Jones and the Six in this novel of first love, passion, and the power of choice--and how we cannot escape the people we are meant to be. Two loves. Two choices. One chance to follow her dreams. Emily has come a long way since she lost her two passions fifteen years ago: music, and Rob. She's a psychologist at NYU who helps troubled college students like the one she once was. Together with her caring doctor husband, Ezra, she has a beautiful life. They're happy. They hope to start a family. But when a tragic event in Emily's present too closely echoes her past, and parts of her story that she'd hoped never to share come to light, her perfect life is suddenly upturned. Then Emily hears a song on the radio about the woman who got away. The melody and voice are hauntingly familiar. Could it be? As Emily's past passions come roaring back into her life, she'll find herself asking: Who is she meant to be? Who is she meant to love?
