This book was released on 1994 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Specific Pavement Studies (SPS) portion examines specially constructed pavements, which will help develop better understanding of the effects on performance of a few targeted factors not widely covered in General Pavement Studies (GPS). SPS also explores options for construction of new pavements, the application of maintenance treatments to existing pavements, and the rehabilitation of distressed pavements. This report summarizes the status of SPS as of June 30, 1992.
Book Synopsis SHRP-LTPP Data Analysis Studies by : William O. Hadley
Download or read book SHRP-LTPP Data Analysis Studies written by William O. Hadley and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the principal objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program Long-Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) study was the development of a comprehensive electronic media database for housing pavement performance data covering a wide range of conditions and service life factors. The database was structured to address pavement management and engineering design issues. The extent and scope of information contained within the LTPP database and Information Management System (IMS) also provides the resources not only to evaluate or revise existing design equations but to develop new ones. During the first 5 years of the SHRP-LTPP program, most issues have been addressed in various data analysis studies. Data analysis studies concerning load equivalency factors, materials and construction variability, rutting initiation studies, and the results of the specific SHRP-LTPP data analysis contracts are presented in subsequent sections of this report. These studies represent initial efforts in pursuit of LTPP goals and operatives and are based primarily on early General Pavement Studies data.
Book Synopsis SHRP-LTPP Materials Characterization by : William O. Hadley
Download or read book SHRP-LTPP Materials Characterization written by William O. Hadley and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) developed two materials characterization programs: one for field sampling, and another for laboratory testing. The SHRP field materials sampling and laboratory materials testing program encompassed all 50 states; 10 Canadian provinces; and Puerto Rico. This report documents the development and execution of these programs for both the General Pavement Studies (GPS) and the Specific Pavement Studies (SPS). These topics are described separately here, although they are linked inherently. Suggestions are given for future materials characterization within the Long-Term Pavement Performance program as it continues under the Federal Highway Administration.
Book Synopsis Highway Research by : Institution of Civil Engineers (Great Britain)
Download or read book Highway Research written by Institution of Civil Engineers (Great Britain) and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1991 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The level of research activity in the highway sector as a whole has declined precipitously in recent decades, whilst the challenges facing US state highway agencies have escalated. As a result, a Strategic Highway Research Program - SHRP) was initiated to establish collaboration with research bodies tackling similar highway problems in countries worldwide. This collection of reports from around the world presents SHRP`s progress towards providing research-based new products from which the international highway engineering community may benefit. SHRP concentrates on six high-priority research areas: asphaltic materials; pavement performance; cement and concrete; maintenance cost effectiveness; concrete bridge component protection systems and the chemical control of snow and ice.
Book Synopsis SHRP-LTPP General Pavement Studies by : William O. Hadley
Download or read book SHRP-LTPP General Pavement Studies written by William O. Hadley and published by Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp). This book was released on 1994 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The General Pavement Studies (GPS) examine selected in-service pavements and compile data to form a comprehensive national pavement performance database that meets the objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program's Long-Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) project. The purpose of this report is to document the development, evolution, and current status of GPS. Data collection criteria were developed for each of the various data elements in GPS, including traffic, skid resistance, deflection, profile, distress, environment, material properties, and climate. Some data were collected by states, others by the SHRP regional offices.

Maser and published by Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp). This book was released on 1994 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new nondestructive, noncontact method for thickness measurement is available and can be implemented from a survey vehicle moving at highway speed. The technology incorporates horn antenna radar equipment coupled with customized processing software. This report describes an accuracy evaluation of this technology in which results from 10 Strategic Highway Research Program Long Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) asphalt pavement sections in 10 states were compared to core data. The results were evaluated and reported in two steps--blind and calibrated.
Book Synopsis LTPP Data Analysis by : Richard N. Stubstad
Download or read book LTPP Data Analysis written by Richard N. Stubstad and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good materials and construction practices are vital to producing high quality and long lasting pavements. Quality control and assurance techniques can provide the owner of the roadway the means to ensure that these desired ends are achieved. The objective of this research study is to determine whether the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) can effectively be used to assist in the QC/QA process during pavement construction. The Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) study provided the data needed to accomplish this research. LTPP began, in about 1988, as the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), and it included a subset of newly constructed or rehabilitated pavements called the Specific Pavement Studies (SPS). Some of these were targeted at pavement maintenance and rehabilitation, while others were for new construction. New construction was subdivided into three LTPP experiments, one for asphalt concrete (AC) surfaced pavements (SPS-1), one for Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) surfaced pavements (SPS-2), and one for both AC and PCC pavements under the influence of light traffic loads (SPS-8). In each case, several thickness and material designs were developed in an experimental design matrix. These SPS experimental design matrices were constructed under a variety of climatic conditions and material sources in several states. During construction of the SPS-1, -2 and -8 projects, a large number of field and laboratory tests were performed on each structural layer. These tests included densities, moisture contents, layer thickness measurements and others, along with FWD tests conducted at each layer interface. This report shows that the FWD data is of reasonable quality and certainly of sufficient quantity to carry out the research. The traditional test results, although not as extensive as FWD data, were also reasonable and appeared to cover most of the wide variety of pavement designs and construction locations represented by the LTPP/SPS database. Sixteen SPS-1, SPS-2 and SPS-8 test sites (each site represents between 2 and 12 test sections) were utilized for analyses during this research project. These sites represent a wide variety of materials, climates, and construction dates.
