Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many have come to conclusion that Romans 7: 1-6 indicated a deficiency in Paul's ability to construct a coherent argument. This study suggests that interpretive problems should be eliminated if the pericope is approached with the right methods. Romans 7: 1-6, examined as a rhetorical treatise, is a paradigmatic argument which is both structurally and logically coherent. A full understanding also demands a re-evaluation of the meaning and reference of law in Romans. Utilizing semantic analyses, the author suggests that law often refers to the Decalogue. In this pericope, Paul demonstrates how a sinful individual who is condemned by law is transformed into a spiritual individual who is commended by law.

In What Respect Are Jews Better Than Gentiles? (Romans 3:1-31) 4. The Righteousness of Man Is Nothing to Be Proud of (Romans 4:1-25) 5. Together with God (Romans 5:1-21) 6. We Can No Longer Continue in Sin (Romans 6:1-23) 7. The Law That Has Dominion over Man (Romans 7:1-25) 8. People to Whom There Is No Condemnation (Romans 8:1-39) 9. Where Does the Apostle Paul’s Anguish Come from? (Romans 9:1-33) The righteousness of God is transparent. God`s righteousness cannot be substituted by anything. That is because His righteousness is different from the righteousness of man. We need to know what God`s righteousness is, and we need to believe in it. God`s righteousness is fundamentally different from human righteousness. The righteousness of mankind is like a filthy rag, but the righteousness of God is like a brilliant pearl shining forever. God`s righteousness is the Truth that is absolutely needed by every sinner, transcending all ages. Our faith in the righteousness of God must be one that can be verified in the Word of Truth. Do you believe in the righteousness of God that is absolutely indispensable in these end times when the Lord`s return is imminent? Do you want to believe in the perfect righteousness of God within the Word of Truth and meet the Lord? Have you ever met God`s righteousness? You need to realize that God`s righteousness is found in Jesus who worked in the gospel of the water and the Spirit. You must meet Jesus, who has become God`s perfect righteousness, and you must believe in Him. The New Life Mission https://www.bjnewlife.org

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Bible Study that incorporates the "SOAPing" Bible Study Methods. The book of Romans is one of my favorite books in the Bible because the doctrines taught through this book have provided me with so much encouragement. I have used the "Roman Road" many times when sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with other people. In fact, the "Roman Road" was presented to me when I gave me heart and life to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful for every word provided through the Bible and it is difficult to choose one book as my favorite, but it is not difficult to say that the book of Romans is on my short list of favorites. Romans is the Christians book of clear DOCTRINE! The primary theme is "The Righteousness of God in Christ." The book of Romans can be divided into three sections that will guide us throughout this exciting Bible Study. The first section of Romans teaches us about people's need of God's righteousness. The second section reveals WHO God's provision for righteousness is, Jesus Christ. The last section of Romans provides us with encouragement for living in the power of the Holy Spirit who enables us to demonstrate God's righteousness in our lives!

Book excerpt: The Greek grammar, newly revised and reset for the second edition, which is also available in paperback, can be used as an instructive handbook, as an intermediate level textbook and as a basic reference work to New Testament Greek. The major topics of Greek grammar are treated in a useful pedagodical sequence. Among the innovative treatments are those on tense and aspect, Mood and Attitude, conditional clauses, word order and clause structure, and discourse analysis. The grammar takes account both of the traditional categories of Greek grammar and of recent discussions on structural linguistics.

Book excerpt: Building on his own translation from the Greek, Hultgren walks readers through Romans verse by verse, illuminating the text with helpful comments, probing into major puzzles, and highlighting the letter's most inspiring features. He also demonstrates the forward-looking, missional character of Paul's epistle -- written, as Hultgren suggests, to introduce Roman Christians to the major themes of Paul's theology and to inspire in them both confidence in the soundness of his teaching and support for his planned missionary efforts in Spain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One view that perennially springs up among biblical scholars is that Paul was the inventor of Christianity, or that Paul introduced the idea of a divine Christ to a church that earlier had simply followed the ethical teaching of a human Jesus. In this book Jerry Sumney responds to that claim by examining how, in reality, Paul drew on what the church already believed and confessed about Jesus. As he explores how Paul's theology relates to that of the broader early church, Sumney identifies where in the Christian tradition distinctive theological claims about Christ, his death, the nature of salvation, and eschatology first seem to appear. Without diminishing significant differences, Sumney describes what common traditions and beliefs various branches of the early church shared and compares them to Paul's thought. Sumney interacts directly with arguments made by those who claim Paul as the inventor of Christianity and approaches the questions raised by that claim in a fresh way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study argues that the language of “death” as a present human plight in Romans 5–8 is best understood against the background of Hellenistic moral-psychological discourse, in which “death” refers to a state of moral bondage in which a person’s rational will is dominated by passions associated with the body. It is death of this sort, rather than human mortality or a cosmic power called “Death,” that entered the world through the transgression of Adam and Eve in Eden. Moral death was imposed on humanity as a judgment against this initial transgression, in order to increase sinful behavior, which ultimately serves to increase the magnitude of the glorious revelation of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. Likewise, creation’s subjection to “corruption” and “futility” in Romans 8 involves the detrimental effects of human moral corruption, not the physical corruption of death and decay. Ultimately, the plight on which Paul focuses much of his attention throughout Rom 5–8 is a matter of morality, not mortality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering, while part of the human condition, is a state of being we would rather ignore. L. Ann Jervis here presents a convincing argument that human suffering is worth considering, and she offers the words of Paul as proof. Paul's insights into the predicament and significance of suffering provide the foundation for some of Christianity's most profound and unique contributions to understanding human life. Examination of three of his letters -- Thessalonians, Philippians, and Romans -- reveals his important reflections on accepting the suffering of believers with the conviction that, even as we suffer, God's plan for creation does not include suffering, and God will ultimately banish it. As a result, believing sufferers are not victims of suffering. Jervis hopes that hearing Paul's words on suffering in a fresh light may allow readers to be deeply marked, like the saints and shapers of Christianity, by the power of a gospel of which it is not necessary to be ashamed, precisely because it is not easy but transformative.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A. Katherine Grieb insightfully traces the argument of Paul's letter to the Romans and shows how it is grounded in the story of God's faithfulness to Israel. She draws together a number of crucial insights: the narrative character of Paul's thought, the apocalyptic message of his gospel, the depth of his engagement with Israel's Scripture, and the practical and political impact of his theology. She demonstrates the letter's relevance today and invites contemporary readers to locate their own stories within Paul's account of God's righteousness. Informed by recent Pauline scholarship, this book will be useful to scholars, students, and pastors.
