Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did Jesus claim to be the "bridegroom"? If so, what did he mean by this claim? When Jesus says that the wedding guests should not fast "while the bridegroom is with them" (Mark 2:19), he is claiming to be a bridegroom by intentionally alluding to a rich tradition from the Hebrew Bible. By eating and drinking with "tax collectors and other sinners," Jesus was inviting people to join him in celebrating the eschatological banquet. While there is no single text in the Hebrew Bible or the literature of the Second Temple Period which states the "messiah is like a bridegroom," the elements for such a claim are present in several texts in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Hosea. By claiming that his ministry was an ongoing wedding celebration he signaled the end of the Exile and the restoration of Israel to her position as the Lord's beloved wife. This book argues that Jesus combined the tradition of an eschatological banquet with a marriage metaphor in order to describe the end of the Exile as a wedding banquet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galatians is one of the earliest of the Pauline letters and is therefore among the first documents written by Christians in the first century. Paul’s letter to the Galatians deals with the first real controversy in the early church: the status of Jews and gentiles in this present age and the application of the Law of Moses to gentiles. Paul argues passionately that gentiles are not “converting” to Judaism and therefore should not be expected to keep the Law. Gentiles who accept Jesus as Savior are “free in Christ,” not under the bondage of the Law. Galatians also deals with an important pastoral issue in the early church as well. If gentiles are not “under the Law,” are they free to behave any way they like? Does Paul’s gospel mean that gentiles can continue to live like pagans and still be right with God? For Paul, the believer’s status as an adopted child of God enables them to serve God freely as dearly loved children. Galatians: Freedom through God's Grace is commentary for laypeople, Bible teachers, and pastors who want to grasp how the original readers of Galatians would have understood Paul’s letter and how this important ancient letter speaks to Christians living in similar situations in the twenty-first century.

Book excerpt: “How long, O Lord?” “When will you answer my prayer?” “Why must I wait so long for your promise to be fulfilled?” The Christian journey is not endless bliss with perfect relationships and an abundant financial portfolio. Perfection can only be found in Christ. Even though lovers of God experience fullness of life, they still face unexpected trials, unpredictable difficulties, and seemingly unsolvable problems. Every child of God will have a wilderness experience, but not everyone has to have a wilderness wandering. In The Wilderness, Brian and Candice share some of their difficult seasons as tribal missionaries in Central and South America where they encountered demonic powers, lost their possessions in a flooding river, and experienced their daughter being bitten by a venomous snake. Combined with the wilderness encounters the Israelites faced, these stories will help you understand your own challenges of faith, delayed answers to prayer, and miraculous interventions that display God’s glory. God wants to bring you from the wilderness to a miracle. You will make it through to the other side and discover God’s heart of love for you!

Book excerpt: This book helps readers see how knowing the truth of our identity as born again believers in Christ Jesus liberates us from those mental and physical shackels that sin causes. Knowing the purpose and the background of temptation also equips us to more completely and permanently overcome. If it was as easy as Just dont do it, no one today would be suffering due to the consequences of self-indulgence associated with overeating, drug and alcohol substance abuse, hyper-sexual deviance, gambling, internet lusts, and all other addictions and snares of the enemy. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6 KJV) Certain portions of 'Temptation: Lessons from Trials in the Wilderness' are derived from question and answer sessions.

Book excerpt: My belief is that African Americans view life as Americans much differently then any other nationality born in America. Many times we allow those views to bind us preventing us from moving forward. My objective for writing this book is to get all to see the bigger picture. Everything man has and will create is done with purpose; the creation of humanity is no different. Each and every one of us are created with purpose but unfortunately many never discover theirs. This book I believe touches on some sensitive subjects in which you may or may not agree, but if it gets you to think and look at things more closely then I am moving toward fulfilling my purpose, which is contributing my small part toward helping you to discover yours. In spite of all we have to deal with in this life know that, "We are More than Conquerors".

Book excerpt: Ever wish someone could give you a big handle on the entire Bible without years of study? Well, this book not only promises to give you that big handle—it will deliver on the promise. You should be asking, how is this possible? The Bible is one story told over and over again, with many variations on the same theme. This structure is the Bible’s DNA. This basic seven-point pattern is the heartbeat of the Creation. It is the cycle of a human day and a human life. It is the pattern of the Tabernacle. It is the process of agriculture. It undergirds the speeches and Laws of God. It orders the rise and fall of nations and empires. It is also the structure of our worship. It is the rhythm of Christ, and it will open the Bible for you like never before.

Book excerpt: Wilderness in many parts of the globe is under considerable threat from human development. This has important ramifications not only for fauna and flora but also for human well-being. Wilderness in the Bible addresses this ecological crisis from a biblical and theological perspective. It first establishes the context of a biblical study of wilderness and then passes to an analysis of the attitudes towards in the canonical biblical record. This provides the biblical basis for the development of a theology of wilderness for the twenty-first century. The Australian wilderness is taken as an illuminating case study.
