Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic text--now updated with a new interpretive approach tothe WAIS?-III Assessing Adolescent and Adult Intelligence, the classic text fromAlan Kaufman and Elizabeth Lichtenberger, has consistently providedthe most comprehensive source of information on cognitiveassessment of adults and adolescents. The newly updated ThirdEdition provides important enhancements and additions thathighlight the latest research and interpretive methods for theWAIS?-III. Augmenting the traditional "sequential" and "simultaneous"WAIS?-III interpretive methods, the authors present a new approachderived from Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory. This approachcombines normative assessment (performance relative to age peers)with ipsative assessment (performance relative to the person's ownmean level). Following Flanagan and Kaufman's work to develop asimilar CHC approach for the WISC?-IV, Kaufman and Lichtenbergerhave applied this system to the WAIS?-III profile of scores alongwith integrating recent WAIS?-III literature. Four appendices present the new method in depth. In addition to adetailed description, the authors provide a blank interpretiveworksheet to help examiners make the calculations and decisionsneeded for applying the additional steps of the new system, andnorms tables for the new WAIS?-III subtest combinations added inthis approach. Assessing Adolescent and Adult Intelligence remains the premierresource for the field, covering not only the WAIS?-III but alsothe WJ III?, the KAIT, and several brief measures of intelligence,as well as laying out a relevant, up-to-date discussion of thediscipline. The new, theory-based interpretive approach for theWAIS?-III makes this a vital resource for practicing psychologists,as well as a comprehensive text for graduate students.
Book Synopsis The Wechsler Intelligence Scales and Gf-Gc Theory by : Dawn P. Flanagan
Download or read book The Wechsler Intelligence Scales and Gf-Gc Theory written by Dawn P. Flanagan and published by Allyn & Bacon. This book was released on 2000 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here's an easy-to-follow, visual guide to using the Wechsler Intelligence and Memory Scales to design assessments and make interpretations you can stand by -- assessments and interpretations that are both psychometrically and theoretically defensible. In this guide, Dawn Flanagan, Kevin McGrew, and Samuel Ortiz modernize the interpretation of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales by applying Gf-Gc theory and the cross-battery approach to intellectual assessment and interpretation. They show you in-depth how to use cross-battery principles and techniques to augment the Wechsler Intelligence Scales (WPPSI-R, WISC-III, WAIS-III) in a psychometrically defensible manner and how to interpret the results of Wechsler-based cross-battery assessments within the context of today's theory and research. In the three comprehensive parts, the guide shows the approach used by the authors: a comprehensive review of the psychometric, theoretical, and qualitative characteristics of all of the individual subtests of the WPPSI-R, WISC-III, WAIS-III, WMS-III, and CMS; and a thorough understanding of the product of grounding cognitive ability assessment and interpretation, with the Wechsler Scales, in strong theory and research -- the Wechsler-based Gf-Gc cross-battery approach. What's more, The Wechsler-based cross-battery approach presented here narrows the theory-practice gap in the field of intellectual assessment and includes well-articulated theory and research based guidelines for conducting Wechsler cross-battery assessments with culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. For practicing clinicians.

Book Synopsis The Measurement of Intelligence by : Lewis Madison Terman
Download or read book The Measurement of Intelligence written by Lewis Madison Terman and published by . This book was released on 1916 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The constant and growing use of the Binet-Simon intelligence scale in public schools, institutions for defectives, reform schools, juvenile courts, and police courts is sufficient evidence of the intrinsic worth of the method. It is generally recognized, however, that the serviceableness of the scale has hitherto been seriously limited, both by the lack of a sufficiently detailed guide and by a number of recognized imperfections in the scale itself. The Stanford revision and extension has been worked out for the purpose of correcting as many as possible of these imperfections, and it is here presented with a rather minute description of the method as a whole and of the individual tests. The aim has been to present the explanations and instructions so clearly and in such an untechnical form as to make the book of use, not only to the psychologist, but also to the rank and file of teachers, physicians, and social workers. More particularly, it is designed as a text for use in normal schools, colleges, and teachers' reading-circles. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved).
