Book Synopsis Principles of the Relation between Local Adverb, Verb and Sentence Particle in Hittite by : Tjerkstra
Download or read book Principles of the Relation between Local Adverb, Verb and Sentence Particle in Hittite written by Tjerkstra and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the function of the so-called " local adverbs" in Hittite, and the relation between their use and the occurrence of so-called "sentence particles". The local adverbs have traditionally been explained as postpositions, preverbs or adverbs, depending on their position in the sentence. In this book, the function of the local adverbs is described in terms of their relation with the verb. Local adverbs belonging to the verb form a semantic particle. Independent local adverbs have no relation with the verb, but function as postpositions or independent adverbs. A new lexical description of all Hittite verbs, in the absence of native speakers, necessarily based on the study of all available "predicate frames", will be necessary to define the function of the Hittite local adverbs in each of their attestations. In this book, the evidence of four common Hittite "verbs of motion" has been analysed as a specimen study. In the last section the situation in a much better-known language, Homeric Greek, where the same problems confront the researcher, is adduced for comparison.

Book Synopsis The Metaphysics of Bohmian Mechanics by : Vera Matarese
Download or read book The Metaphysics of Bohmian Mechanics written by Vera Matarese and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-05-08 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive guide to the metaphysics of Bohmian mechanics. Bohmian mechanics is a quantum theory that describes the motion of particles following trajectories that are determined by the quantum wave-function. The key question that the theory has to face relates to the ontological interpretation of the quantum wave-function. The main debate has mostly centered around two opposing views, wave-function realism on the one hand, and the nomological view on the other hand. The supporters of the former believe that the wave-function is a physical field living in a high-dimensional space; the supporters of the latter regard the wave-function as just an entity that appears in the laws of nature and lacks physical status. This monograph discusses both views open-mindedly, illuminating their tacit problems and providing new insight into how they can be overcome. Moreover, it discusses the structuralist view, which is often neglected and which can be regarded as a reconciliation of the two main opposing camps.

Book Synopsis Analytic Theism by : Joshua R. Sijuwade
Download or read book Analytic Theism written by Joshua R. Sijuwade and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-05-28 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores and develops a new philosophical argument for the existence of God from metaphysics. It focuses on exploring the pressing questions of God’s existence, the truth of theistic belief, and its relevance in modern philosophy. In doing so, it bridges the discussions and debates in the field of contemporary metaphysics with that of analytic philosophy of religion. At its core, metaphysics is dedicated to unveiling the fundamental structure of reality, playing a critical role in any intellectual endeavour in the quest for truth. However, a noticeable gap has persisted between today’s metaphysical conversations and the debates in analytic philosophy of religion, especially regarding the topic of God’s existence. In this book, the author embarks on a rigorous exploration, presenting an innovative a posteriori argument for theism, rooted in the latest evidence and theories from contemporary metaphysics. The first part of the book details the explanatory framework of the analysis, which is focused on introducing a new abductive methodology within metaphysics that provides a way for assessing the veracity of theism and the leading fundamental theories in contemporary metaphysics. The second part of the book then focuses on demonstrating how the central concepts and theories within contemporary metaphysics—such as quantum foundations, four-dimensionalism, formal ontology, essentialism, grounding, powerful causation, mereology, free will, personhood, and the reality of suffering—are best explained by the existence of God, and thus justify theism, over that of the competing theories within contemporary metaphysics. Theism is thus the best working metaphysical theory and should take a central place in fundamental enquiries within the field of contemporary metaphysics and beyond. Analytic Theism: A Philosophical Investigation is a must-read for scholars and advanced students venturing into philosophy of religion and metaphysics. Beyond its appeal to those in analytic philosophy of religion and metaphysics, this work also resonates with those immersed in contemporary philosophy on a whole and related fields of inquiry, serving as a pivotal read for anyone keen on the intersections of philosophy, theology, and science.

Book Synopsis Particle Size Measurements by : Henk G. Merkus
Download or read book Particle Size Measurements written by Henk G. Merkus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-01-07 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the practical aspects of particle size measurement: a major difference with existing books, which have a more theoretical approach. Of course, the emphasis still lies on the measurement techniques. For optimum application, their theoretical background is accompanied by quantitative quality aspects, limitations and problem identification. In addition the book covers the phenomena of sampling and dispersion of powders, either of which may be dominant in the overall analysis error. Moreover, there are chapters on the general aspects of quality for particle size analysis, quality management, reference materials and written standards, in- and on-line measurement, definitions and multilingual terminology, and on the statistics required for adequate interpretation of results. Importantly, a relation is made to product performance, both during processing as well as in final application. In view of its set-up, this book is well suited to support particle size measurement courses.
Book Synopsis The Structural Foundations of Quantum Gravity by : Dean Rickles
Download or read book The Structural Foundations of Quantum Gravity written by Dean Rickles and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2006-11-16 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum gravity is the name given to a theory that unites general relativity - Einstein's theory of gravitation and spacetime - with quantum field theory, our framework for describing non-gravitational forces. The Structural Foundations of Quantum Gravity brings together philosophers and physicists to discuss a range of conceptual issues that surface in the effort to unite these theories, focusing in particular on the ontological nature of the spacetime that results. Although there has been a great deal written about quantum gravity from the perspective of physicists and mathematicians, very little attention has been paid to the philosophical aspects. This volume closes that gap, with essays written by some of the leading researchers in the field. Individual papers defend or attack a structuralist perspective on the fundamental ontologies of our physical theories, which offers the possibility of shedding new light on a number of foundational problems. It is a book that will be of interest not only to physicists and philosophers of physics but to anyone concerned with foundational issues and curious to explore new directions in our understanding of spacetime and quantum physics.

Book Synopsis Quantum Statistics of Charged Particle Systems by : W.D. Kraeft
Download or read book Quantum Statistics of Charged Particle Systems written by W.D. Kraeft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 1985 represents a special anniversary for people dealing with Ooulomb systems. 200 years ago, in 1785, Oharles Auguste de Ooulomb (1736-1806) found "Ooulomb's law" for the interaction force between charged particles. The authors want to dedicate this book to the honour of the great pioneer of electrophysics. Recent statistical mechanics is mainly restricted to systems of neutral particles. Except for a few monographs and survey articles (see, e. g., IOHIMARU, 1973, 1982; KUDRIN, 1974; KLIMONTOVIOH, 1975; EBELING, KRAEFT and KREMP, 1976, 1979; KALMAN and CARINI, 1978; BAUS and HANSEN, 1980; GILL, 1981, VELO and WIGHT MAN, 1981; MATSUBARA, 1982) the extended material on charged particle systems, which is now available thanks to the efforts of many workers in statistical mechanics, is widely dispersed in many original articles. It is the aim of this monograph to represent at least some part of the known results on charged particle systems from a unified point of view. Here the method of Green's functions turns out to be a powerful method especially to overcome the difficulties connected with the statistical physics of charged particle systems; some of them are . mentioned in the introduction. Here we can point, e.g., to the appearance of bound states in a medium and their role as new entities.

Book Synopsis Re-Thinking Time at the Interface of Physics and Philosophy by : Albrecht von Müller
Download or read book Re-Thinking Time at the Interface of Physics and Philosophy written by Albrecht von Müller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current volume of the Parmenides Series “On Thinking” addresses our deepest and most personal experience of the world, the experience of “the present,” from a modern perspective combining physics and philosophy. Many prominent researchers have contributed articles to the volume, in which they present models and express their opinions on and, in some cases, also their skepticism about the subject and how it may be (or may not be) addressed, as well as which aspects they consider most relevant in this context. While Einstein might have once hoped that “the present” would find its place in the theory of general relativity, in a later discussion with Carnap he expressed his disappointment that he was never able to achieve this goal. This collection of articles provides a unique overview of different modern approaches, representing not only a valuable summary for experts, but also a nearly inexhaustible source of profound and novel ideas for those who are simply interested in this question.
