Book excerpt: I have pretty much been around rats my whole life. My first childhood memory was of a dramatic encounter with one that set into motion a chain of events that occurred throughout my life that seem to go beyond belief. I would like to invite you on a journey throughout my life as I talk about the events that were unfolding at the time. I go on to talk about what is most inconcievably unexplainable. I can only think that there is a higher power at work here, like our lives are preordained. I know that this a controversial subject but the story will give you the reasons why. The Rat Worshiper is about these events that ultimately moulded me into the kind of person I am today.

Book excerpt: An alien race known as the Xzebuliens that exists in an alternate universe has developed the technology to create a rift in our own, that appears on the blind side of the moon. They send asteroids through the rift and deflect them to land on all the major continents of Earth, containing a virus engineered to wipe out the human race, so they can leave their dying world behind after we are gone. There will however, be limitations to the virus, like how far and fast it spreads from the epicenters of the land masses that they strike making our environment toxic to humans, but not to most any other forms of life on the planet. The virus, also designed to turn the environment against humans, including the plant and animal life. What the aliens did not count on is that the rats of Earth are affected by the virus in a way that mutates them, rendering the virus inert so as not to be dangerous to us through them, but giving them an ability to become telepathic with people through their Meta cognitive abilities that they share with human beings which is evidently lacking in other animal species. They eventually become our allies using their superior senses and intellect that work through us because of their mutated telepathic abilities and the Meta cognitive powers that both our species have in common in thwarting the alien attempts to invade. An ancient secret the rats discover in an otherworldly alien AI database that they reveal to us through their enhanced mental abilities is so shocking it will change the way people look at rats and our world forever. The human race becomes subservient to the rats because of their accidental alien viral metamorphosis as we depend on each other for the survival of both our species....

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National Geographic has been called a window on the world and a passport to adventure. Each month an estimated forty million people in 190 countries open its pages and are transported to exotic realms that delight the eye and mind. Such widespread renown gives the magazine's writers an almost magical access to people and happenings, as doors that are closed to the rest of the journalistic world open wide. Thomas Y. Canby was fortunate to be a NationalGeographic writer and science editor from 1961 to 1991, a time during which the Society's ventures and size grew by leaps and bounds and the resources available to staff were seemingly limitless. In From Botswana to the Bering Sea, he gives readers an on-the-ground look at the life of a National Geographic field staffer and an insider's view of the fascinating dynamics within the magazine's editorial chambers. Canby's assignments dealt largely with issues of global concern, and his travels took him to the farthest reaches of the planet. This book gives the reader the visas and tickets to share in Canby's experiences -- from a Filipino rice harvest capped by a feast of deep-fried rats, to impoverished villages of Asia and Africa gripped by the world's most widespread famine, to seal hunting and dog sledding with Eskimos in the Canadian high Arctic. Readers match wits with paranoid guardians of the secret Soviet space program; skirt land mines in the flaming oil fields of Kuwait; and dodge death while scuba diving to an archaeological site in a Florida sinkhole. The book also gives insight into the magazine's inner workings: how article subjects are chosen; how writers are assigned and interact; how prolonged trips to impossibly remote destinations are planned; how staffers operate in the field. Working for National Geographic has been called "the best job in the world." From Botswana to the Bering Sea describes that unique job, and answers from first-hand knowledge the question Canby and his colleagues are so often asked: "So, what is it like to work for National Geographic?"

Book excerpt: REX ELLIS leads an amazing life, one driven by a sense of curiosity, adventure, adaptability, practicality and more than a dash of mischief. These traits are powered by a loyal heart and a strong mind and body. From his early days growing up in the South Australian bush to his continent-spanning adventures on foot, by car, camel and boat, he has relied on his ability and wit, and an infectious sense of wonder. His comfort in extreme environments is endearing and enduring. It is a hallmark of his adventures and key to the experiences of those lucky enough to have travelled with him over the decades. It can take courage to get out of your comfort zone, Rex says. And I see the trepidation some people feel, but then it usually comes good … I just say we make our plans then we ride on the back of nature.

Book excerpt: Felix Taylor once stopped a devastating plague, but now he must save his world from humankind itself. It’s been a year since Felix Taylor travelled back to ancient Rome and saved his world from a lethal plague. Again his knowledge of Latin seems useless now that life in the 23rd century has returned to normal. But is it really? A stranger has discovered the time machine and used it to project back into the past. It becomes clear his purpose is to reverse Felix’s success, to bring back the plague and doom future generations to death. To make matters worse, this stranger is very close to Felix. With help from his friend Carolyn, Felix must return to the world of Julius Caesar, as well as a later era divided by religion, to stop the re-emergence of the plague. If he fails to do so, his world will turn to dust like ancient Rome.
