My name is Billie, and I am known on a popular social media site and from my childhood as Billie G. I am the sixth daughter of a handsome carver/fisherman and a beautiful mom who worked in the cannery in Namu, BC. I am a proud mom of four beautiful sons, Martin, Gregory, Miguel and Jamie. I am a grandmother, an aunt, a daughter and a niece, sister, cousin and friend. I had absolutely no idea why my people and I are so broken. I had no idea what intergenerational effects were until I went to college and then university. Before I had the privilege of earning an education, I had no idea why I’d led a life stagnant and laden with dysfunction or why I could not just ‘be healthy.’ I did not understand why I had to take the long rough and tough way around towards healing. I have since earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from an indigenous perspective and I have learned a lot about me and my life and how I’ve been affected by intergenerational effects.I understand now why I am so stigmatized. I understand now who I am and where I come from. I have recognized not a lot of people, indigenous or otherwise, are unaware of what intergenerational effects are. I have correlated some effects with my life in hopes of giving more clarity in how they affect me and my people. These are my views, this is my understanding, and this is my life. These are The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind.

This conclusion has been reached by representatives of many different psychological specialties. In response to this inconsistency this book presents a hierarchical framework about important theoretical issues that are present in psychological thinking. These issues concern definitions of three major theoretical concepts in theory and practice: (a) paradigms, (b) theories, and (c) models. It focuses on defining, comparing, and contrasting these three conceptual terms. This framework clarifies differences among paradigms, theories, and models, terms which have become increasingly confused in the psychological literature. Paradigms are usually confused with theories or with models while theories are confused with models. Examples of misuses of these terms suggest the need for a hierarchical structure that views paradigms as conceptual constructions overseeing a variety of psychological theories and verifiable models.

The experiences and conceptual issues of NDC in its childhood were reviewed in a prior anthology (Holzmann and Palmer, 2006). This new anthology published in 2 volumes serves to review its adolescence and with the aim of contributing to a successful adulthood. Volume 1 on Progress, Lessons, Implementation includes a detailed analysis of the experience and the key policy lessons in the old and new pilot countries and the implementation of NDCs elements in other reform countries. This volume 2 on Gender, Politics, Financial Stability includes deeper and new analyses of these issues that found little or no attention in the 2006 publication. The gender perspective includes 5 chapters with, perhaps, the most complete discussion on gender and pension issues available to date. The financial stability perspective addresses in 6 chapters critical micro- and macroeconomic aspects such as the balancing mechanism, the use of a reserve fund, the handling of legacy costs, and technicalities related to the management of the longevity risk when designing annuities. While the 2 volumes address many issues it also opens a number of new questions for which good answers are not yet readily available.
