Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I could talk to you about anything, it could be so much about life. Do you see life as a spectrum of colours which enhances it everyday or adds value to it ? Do you see it as a blank page which is just filled with events? The palette called life just cannot be empty but is full of vibrant colours on a page with elaborate description of all that happens. The best colours are found on the palette of life. The artist is you and you need to decide which colour you would use where. It only takes a blank space to start and when we do it is the colours and strokes that matter most. Some might see it as a blank canvas waiting to be brought to life just by a stroke by an artist. We all draw differently and we all express differently. A picture drawn by one person will differ even if the other draws the same. We see things differently don’t we? But every stroke of the brush adds something to the canvas and so does everything you say or do. What if I call life a rainbow? A rainbow that is rare yet fills the day or moment with happiness. A rainbow which has only seven colours but together gives the plain blue sky a different look altogether. I am sure all of you have seen the arch of the rainbow. What if I say it is a smile from above. The one just there , who looks down at us puts this smile on our face, which if you see from his side, is correct in shape. A smile that tries to fit in as many as it can. The one above just watches us smiling at the rainbow. Rainbow , the colours that dance between the raindrops and the sunlight. Colours that are just that little moment that you get between the good times and bad. Colours that turn a dull moment to life. The colours that suddenly appear turning a gloomy day to a cheerful one. Yet this sight is rare and short lived and is caught by only a few who notice it. They either enjoy the sight of a rainbow alone or share it with others. So is life, either to be lived alone or with people around you. There might be moments of happiness that bring you together or moments that you need when you feel low. In both of these situations the people present with you are just like the rainbow. You might not meet them always but whenever they are present they add the smile to your face or give you strength in times when you need it most. The colours are reflections of your inner self. They depict the various moods, the feelings , the emotions that are within you. The same colour might speak a different language for each one of us. The way we behave, the way we do things in life or simply the way we dress shows the dominant colour that we carry with us that particular day. Colours have a language of their own which is interpreted differently by individuals. But the rainbow is there, just waiting for the rays of the sun to outshine the drops of rain that seem to suddenly come out of nowhere. These drops of rain might seem colourless but can beautifully bring out the vibgyor which everyone watches in awe. Let me help you see this beautiful life with the various colours of a rainbow. Let me bring in the rainbow , for you to smile as you read what I share with you.

Rainbow Quilt Color Method isn't just a collection of 15 beautiful quilts to make, but it's also a course study on how to confidently choose fabric for multi-color and monotone designs. Sarah shares her approach to selecting a harmonious palate that achieves design strength through color placement. She then goes on to explain how she uses color saturation and color value to make the same quilt with alternate coloration. For example, her rainbow version of her "Twinkle" pattern takes on a patriotic feel when it's made with reds, creams, and blues. Filled with techniques that, in many cases, let the consumers choose their own preferences to achieve their own results, it also includes instruction for basic patchwork, curves, English and foundation paper piecing, plus appliqué options if paper piecing isn't your cup of tea. Quilt patterns include "Blast Off," "Double Dip," " Eden," "Fan Dancer," "Pergola," "Soft Serve," and more! Improve your own quilting skills by learning from a master!

Book excerpt: Venerated as god and goddess, feared as demon and pestilence, trusted as battle omen, and used as a proving ground for optical theories, the rainbow's image is woven into the fabric of our past and present. From antiquity to the nineteenth century, the rainbow has played a vital role in both inspiring and testing new ideas about the physical world. Although scientists today understand the rainbow's underlying optics fairly well, its subtle variability in nature has yet to be fully explained. Throughout history the rainbow has been seen primarily as a symbol&—of peace, covenant, or divine sanction&—rather than as a natural phenomenon. Lee and Fraser discuss the role the rainbow has played in societies throughout the ages, contrasting its guises as a sign of optimism, bearer of Greek gods' messages of war and retribution, and a symbol of the Judeo-Christian bridge to the divine. The authors traverse the bridges between the rainbow's various roles as they explore its scientific, artistic, and folkloric visions. This unique book, exploring the rainbow from the perspectives of atmospheric optics, art history, color theory, and mythology, will inspire readers to gaze at the rainbow anew. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sunset. Fire. Rainbow. Drawing on such common occurrences of light, Navajo artists have crafted an uncommon array of design in colored glass beads. Beadwork is an art form introduced to the Navajos through other Indian and Euro-American contacts, but it is one that they have truly made their own. More than simple crafts, Navajo beaded designs are architectures of light. Ellen Moore has written the first history of Navajo beadwork—belts and hatbands, baskets and necklaces—in a book that examines both the influence of Navajo beliefs in the creation of this art and the primacy of light and color in Navajo culture. Navajo Beadwork: Architectures of Light traces the evolution of the art as explained by traders, Navajo consultants, and Navajo beadworkers themselves. It also shares the visions, words, and art of 23 individual artists to reveal the influences on their creativity and show how they go about creating their designs. As Moore reveals, Navajo beadwork is based on an aggregate of beliefs, categories, and symbols that are individually interpreted and transposed into beaded designs. Most designs are generated from close observation of light in the natural world, then structured according to either Navajo tradition or the newer spirituality of the Native American Church. For many beadworkers, creating designs taps deeply embedded beliefs so that beaded objects reflect their thoughts and prayers, their aesthetic sensibilities, and their sense of being Navajo—but above all, their attention to light and its properties. No other book offers such an intimate view of this creative process, and its striking color plates attest to the wondrous results. Navajo Beadwork: Architectures of Light is a valuable record of ethnographic research and a rich source of artistic insight for lovers of beadwork and Native American art.
