Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As humans, things happen to us sometimes that we cannot fully understand. We desire to explain them when from human perspective there's no explanation that really exists. Our perplexion at things of that nature are not just about when they happen to us but also the things we witness in the world around us. They oftentimes shake the foundations of our faith in God to the core. But as much as not knowing hurts, at no time should our reaction be to accuse God for things we don't understand. Rather, we should know that God is not always the architect of all our problems and that He might not always save us from people that live to harm us or bless us the way we want because we take a stand with Him. His promise however is one thing and that is that He'll work it all out for HIS OWN ENDS even the wicked for a day of disaster Proverbs 16:4b. However your pain occurred, God's declared intentions are that He'll use all of your problems any which way they present to work out His will for your life. The deaths of some of the people that went before us is proof that for reasons best known to Him, God at times chooses not to deliver people that take a stand with Him. And it's not because He hated such people but because of what He already planned to use the situation for.

Book excerpt: Becoming God creates a fictional world of freedom where one can make anything possible by believing in oneself. The story revolves around the protagonist, Parnog, a sales professional. Things change when Parnog is drawn into a strange world and realizes he is no ordinary human being but an extension of the creators of our galaxy. He was created for a purpose—to save the world from negative forces. He is one of seven people selected to do this. However, he is the only one aware of the purpose. Parnog learns about life, people, relationships, and things about himself during the journey. He makes new friends with people from the alien world and earth. Will Parnog find the other six people? Will he be able to become GOD? Will he succeed in what he wishes to? Every choice you make makes you either strong or weak, but even weakness teaches you how to build again. Humans were never weak, it was a choice they made, and they made a negative one. Do you think the choice you make next will get you something? Choose wisely.

Book excerpt: My poems are meant to inspire, uplift, and to allow the reader to view life from different perspectives by delving into the mind of the writer, ultimately knowing that if we turn to God and give him the glory and honor, our lives will reflect it. The decisions we make for our lives often reflect the relationship that we have with God. Although we sometimes go through things that we can’t control or due to no fault of our own accord, no matter what phase our lives are in or what we are going through in our lives, God’s love for us will remain steadfast and his love for you will be enough to sustain you to bring you out.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hermes is the Greek god of the Word, of thought and magic, the swift-moving messenger of the Divine and guardian of souls in the Afterlife. In Ancient Egypt he was the majestic god Thoth, the Recorder, the lord of measurement and science, the brother/husband of Isis. In Rome, he was of course Mercury, flying through the Empyrean at the speed of idea by the aid of his winged helmet and boots. In this broad survey of the Hermetic arts, author Jacob Slavenburg brings an unparalleled depth of insight to the subject. He examines the historical Hermetic literature and details its relevance to modern occultism, from the symbolism of architecture and art to the mysteries of Freemasonry. The heavenly mysteries of astrology are explored as are the healing arts which derive from the spirit of scientific inquiry embodied by Thoth/Hermes. Slavenburg examines the magical writings of the Greek papyri and their development into the contemporary magical practices of modern adepts. He sheds light on the workings of alchemy and the esoteric philosophy to the world of modern chemistry and physics. He explores the origin of evil and the realm of the afterlife, and the Hermetic doctrines of reincarnation and karma. In addition, the author provides a wealth of biographical data on the magi of Hermeticsm, from Ficino to Agrippa, John Dee to Giordano Bruno.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nathaniel Gray Sutanto offers a fresh reading of Herman Bavinck's theological epistemology, and argues that his Trinitarian and organic worldview utilizes an extensive range of sources. Sutanto unfolds Bavinck's understanding of what he considered to be the two most important aspects of epistemology: the character of the sciences and the correspondence between subjects and objects. Writing at the heels of the European debates in the 19th and 20th century concerning theology's place in the academy, and rooted in historic Christian teachings, Sutanto demonstrates how Bavinck's argument remains fresh and provocative. This volume explores archival material and peripheral works translated for the first time in English. The author re-reads several key concepts, ranging from Organicism to the Absolute, and relates Bavinck's work to Thomas Aquinas, Eduard von Hartmann, and other thinkers. Sutanto applies this reading to current debates on the relationship between theology and philosophy, nature and grace, and the nature of knowing; and in doing so provides students and scholars with fresh methods of considering Orthodox and modern forms of thought, and their connection with each other.

Book excerpt: QueenDeborah believes God has blessed, anointed, and appointed her to write this second book; and it pertains to the mercy of God! How merciful God has been to her! Out of the relationships, QueenDeborah asked God, "Why am I writing books about this one?" The response was...there was only a step between me and death. (I Samuel 20:3) QueenDeborah truly does not know where she would be if God did not choose to have mercy on her! An epiphany God gave QueenDeborah was, "It's one thing for God to get and have one's attention, but when you have God's attention, that's a totally different case!" I have God's attention! "Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy" (Psalm 33:18). QueenDeborah is hoping for the mercy of God! One thing God showed QueenDeborah is that whoever has your heart has you! The word heart has two other words--h(ear)t and (hear)t! So whoever has you has your heart and therefore has your ear to hear whatever they say! It is time now to hear what God has to say! He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches (Revelations 3:22). So as you snap out of it, ask, look for, and expect the mercy of God! I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee (Psalm 41:4). But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up (v. 10). By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me (v. 11). God is a merciful God! Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion [QueenDeborah]: for the time to favour her, yea the set time is come (Psalm 102:13 KJV).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking new book, Bruce Lerro offers a speculative reconstruction of the sacred beliefs and practices of cultures existing between 30,000 and 500 B.C.E. Lerro describes how material changes in various social formations--including hunting-gathering bands and horticulturalists in villages--were responsible for the shift from magic to realism, from the belief in earth spirits to faith in sky gods. Drawing from such diverse theorists as Marx and Engels, Vygotsky, Piaget, and George Herbert Mead, Lerro critiques and transforms mechanical, humanistic, new age, and countercultural perspectives on the history of sacred traditions. This study of comparative religion and mythology has important applications for the fields of archaeology, evolutionary anthropology, sociology, political science, and comparative psychology.

The girl was homely, good and sweet; yet she was light years away from the Emperor in terms of looks and stature. The Emperor wanted to send a love letter to her. He had a million messengers at His beck and call. He could have sent the best poet in the world, who could have composed an epic on Him. Or could have sent the world's finest dancer. Or the best scholar. Or the greatest warrior. Instead the Emperor chose a lousy courier boy, who was lazing around, for the job. The boy could not speak well or run fast. Yet in a state of ecstasy he ran all the way to the girl's house. And delivered the letter. The Emperor is the Lord. And you are the girl. He has fallen in love with you. And OH MY GOD! is His love letter. I am the lousy courier boy. You may hate the courier boy. But I entreat you, my dears, don't ever neglect the message from your beloved, the Emperor. - Varalotti Rengasamy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible and the American Myth challenges the academic study of the Bible to orient itself to cultural criticism. The essays model an approach to the study of the Bible that entails efforts to fathom not only the meanings of texts, but the role of texts in the construction of meaning. It is all the more fascinating and poignant that the essayists are students of theology of varied backgrounds. What they have in common is the pursuit of theological studies at the mouth of Harlem. This location at the turn of the century inspired them to think differently about the focus and agenda of theological studies, especially biblical studies. Each essayist is convinced that the study of the Bible should entail the study of cultural construction and deconstruction, the study of the making and unmaking of cultural myths that shape existence.
