Book Synopsis The Principles and Practice of Leaching by : W. C. Cooper
Download or read book The Principles and Practice of Leaching written by W. C. Cooper and published by Elsevier Science Limited. This book was released on 1995 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principles and Practice of Leaching focuses on advances in the leaching of metals from various ores and concentrates. The articles presented in this volume represent thirteen countries scattered through five continents. This is a reflection of the international effort being expended to advance the theory and practice of leaching. A range of topics related to leaching are included in the book e.g. copper and nickel leaching; zinc leaching; gold and silver leaching; biological and heap leaching. Within these topics there is evidence of much progress in understanding the nature of leaching processes and the applying of new ideas to commercial practice. The design of commercial leaching processes through advanced mathematical modelling is also emphasized. It is hoped that this volume will be an often-used reference for all those interested in the principles and practice of leaching, and that it will be a solid foundation for future excellent work in hydrometallurgy.

Book Synopsis Drainage Engineering: Principles and Practices by : S.K. Gupta
Download or read book Drainage Engineering: Principles and Practices written by S.K. Gupta and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current book attempts to fill the gap in one of the major subject of land drainage that will have a major impact on production and productivity of irrigated lands. The book Titled `Drainage Engineering: Principles and Practices` deals with the subject of surface and subsurface drainage to reclaim waterlogged salt affected soils. Based on the course curricula as suggested by Deans´ committee constituted by ICAR, the current publication has been divided into 11 Chapters covering all the facets of land drainage as applied to agriculture. Each chapter covers one of the related issues beginning with general introduction to water logging, soil salinity and land drainage in Chapter 1.Surface drainage methods, an essential intervention in monsoon climatic regions and as supplement to the subsurface drainage are included in Chapter 2. Drainage investigations, a precursor to problem diagnosis and to assemble the drainage design parameters are included in Chapter 3. The drainage design procedures such as assessment of drainage depth, spacing and capacity of drains forms the subject matter of Chapter 4. While drainage materials are discussed in Chapter 5, drainage construction procedures and methodologies to monitor and evaluate completed projects are included in Chapter 6. Some of the new drainage techniques such as mole, interceptor, vertical and bio-drainage have been included in Chapter 7 since these can either be applied singly or in integration with horizontal subsurface drainage. Chapters 8-10 deal withreclamation of salt affected soils, acid soils and management of saline water. Eco-friendly reuse and disposal of saline drainage wateralso form the subject matter of discussion of Chapter 10. Cost calculations, socio-economic and environmental issues associated with drainage projects have been included in final chapter 11. Glossary of terms has been added for quick overview of the terms used in the book. Clearly, each and every aspect of surface and subsurface drainage for agricultural lands has been covered in the book.Besides covering the principles of land drainage, field practices have been included making the book a handy tool for specialized training programmes on land drainage. It is believed that the book will find its place in the shelves of students and teachers, field functionaries and libraries of state agricultural universitiesand civil engineering colleges.

Book Synopsis Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals by : Stefano Ubaldini
Download or read book Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals written by Stefano Ubaldini and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaching is a primary extractive operation in hydrometallurgical processing, by which a metal of interest is transferred from naturally occurring minerals into an aqueous solution. In essence, it involves the selective dissolution of valuable minerals, where the ore, concentrate, or matte is brought into contact with an active chemical solution known as a leach solution. Currently, the hydrometallurgical processes have a great number of applications, not only in the mining sector—in particular, for the recovery of precious metals—but also in the environmental sector, for the recovery of toxic metals from wastes of various types, and their reuse as valuable metals, after purification. Therefore, there is an increasing need to develop novel solutions, to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the recovery of these valuable and precious metals, with particular reference to critical metals; those included in materials that are indispensable to modern life and for which an exponential increase in consumption is already a reality, or will be in a short-term perspective. For publication in this Special Issue, consideration has been given to articles that contribute to the optimization of the kinetic conditions of innovative hydrometallurgical processes—economic and of low environmental impact—applied to the recovery of valuable and critical metals.
