Yet it is improbable that the majority of Americans will, on that day, be aware that it is one of the great dates of history. For it will then be a hundred years since George Washington took the oath of office as first President of the United States. The man or woman to whose lot it shall fall to write the biographies of the Presidents of a second century, will, it is hoped, find as much worthy of honor and praise, as the author of these brief sketches has found.
