Popovtzer lived with his family under the Soviet rule until the Nazi invasion of their hometown. After losing his father, he—along with his mother and sister—went into hiding as they continually evaded apprehension by the Nazis. Throughout the war, they were forced to move between different hiding places and joined a group of partisans fighting against the Nazis. Shortly after the war, Popovtzer made aliyah with his family, and succeeded to live a rich life filled with many professional accomplishments and a loving family.

Book excerpt: Powerful, effective prayer for your husband is easier than you think. “I have never seen a more practical book on how to pray for your husband.”—Gary Chapman, PhD, author of The Five Love Languages As a wife, no one is more called or qualified than you to pray for your husband. Yet sometimes, it’s hard to find the words. You wonder: What should I pray? How should I pray? What prayers does he need right now? In Praying for Your Husband from Head to Toe, Sharon Jaynes maps out sixteen areas of a man’s life to help you consistently and effectively cover your husband in prayer. From his mind and the thoughts he thinks, to his eyes and the images he sees, all the way down to his feet and the path he takes, Sharon teaches you how to pray for your husband in ways that are powerful, practical, and life-changing. You’ll learn how to: • Cover each area of your husband’s life with specific scriptural prayers, knowing that when you pray the Word of God, you pray the will of God. • Become a prayer warrior who is equipped and empowered for intercession that makes a difference in the physical and spiritual realms. • Stop your mind from wandering during prayer by following a pattern that helps you stay focused and fervent, with faith-filled expectancy. • Establish a habit of purposeful prayer in just a few dedicated minutes each day. Whether you’re newly married or you and your husband have grown gray together, you’ll use this prayer guide again and again to bless your marriage and your man.

Book excerpt: In a kingdom ravaged by the beasts and terrors of an ancient war, the only hope against them is the army of mixed-blood beings known as the King's Legion: dragoons, shadowmarch, sorcerers, titans... and the Princes of the Blood, nigh-invincible warriors of fearsome magic and strength, their only weakness a need for pure human blood. When his brother runs away, Raffé agrees to undergo the Blooding, but he is a pale imitation of his strong, capable brother. No one expects him to survive and become a Prince, merely to die to save the rest of his family and preserve honor. But runaways and weaklings are the least of the kingdom's concerns when an ancient evil returns with new tricks, and their only hope lies with knowledge long lost and a fierce bond forged in darkness...

Book excerpt: When Christ Jesus gave us the Lords Prayer, he encapsulated eternal principles already revealed in the Old Testament. Exploring the Seven Elements of the Lords Prayer is a journey that reveals those principles about our proper relationship with God, His nature, what we must do to enter the kingdom, find purpose, and bring internal peace, healing, and comfort. It can be read individually and in a group study. Each of the twelve chapters includes tough questions for contemplation and discussion that will challenge you and help you grow in your faith. Erik does a thorough work of reminding us of the importance of allowing ourselves to be transformed and that an awesome God includes us in His purposes as part of His kingdom. Excerpt from foreword by Pastor Phil Scott, Regional Director, Allegheny Region Conference of the Churches of God Eriks approach is not theological or academic. Rather, he takes a unique look at the Model Prayer with a desire for discovery. I found it most refreshing. Enjoy and be inspired. John O. Yoder, BA, Pastor and Church Planter

Whatever we seek, God invites us to come to Him with confidence, believing that He is able to answer—and He will answer. We can pray for: Forgiveness like David Wisdom like Solomon Healing like Hezekiah A child like Hannah Deliverance like Jonah Mercy like the 10 lepers Salvation like the thief on the cross But are you convinced that prayer works, even when you don’t get the answers you want? In It Happens After Prayer, Pastor HB Charles, Jr. motivates and encourages us to respond to the challenges of life with prayer, to pray without ceasing, and to pray with great expectations. Are you ready for a new level of earnest, passionate, God-size prayers? Don’t let another day go by without praying and seeking the face of God, because it happens after prayer.

Book excerpt: Bestselling author and pastor Lloyd John Ogilvie has spent years observing—and experiencing himself—the deep needs of Christians, and why those needs for love, comfort, guidance, or discernment often go unmet. In Experiencing the Power of the Holy Spirit, he draws on Scripture to illuminate the living and active work of the Spirit. Because many believers have a limited view of their great Advocate, Counselor, Helper, and Companion, they don’t realize that in day-to-day life they can depend on Him to... encourage, guide, and correct them, and prompt them to speak or act appropriately help them identify deep motives and penetrate to the root of personal struggles help them discern in prayer what is best in a situation When believers build their lives upon reliance on the Spirit, they can live confidently in life’s stressful situations and relationships, knowing they have a Friend who is always there to help.

Book excerpt: One of Daniel Berrigan's best works, Minor Prophets, Major Themes, offers poetic, insightful commentary on the books of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachai. From his own experience in the prophetic struggle to end war and injustice, Berrigan brings these ancient texts to new life and uses them to shed light on the life and death struggles for justice and peace today. The author takes these often neglected prophetic works and shows how they speak to us with even greater urgency, pushing us to become a prophetic people, to take up the major themes of justice, disarmament, nonviolence, compassion, and peace. There is simply no other commentary like it.

Book excerpt: Prayer is the lifeblood of the Christian faith--but many followers of Jesus still struggle to make prayer part of their daily lives. In Pray First, bestselling author and pastor Chris Hodges shows us how to make prayer a first response instead of a last resort. Why is it that so many Christians find it difficult to develop a vibrant and exciting prayer life? Even though prayer is foundational to the Christian life, many are intimidated or uncertain about how to talk to God. Prayer feels quaint and old-fashioned to some, sacred and uncomfortable to others. It's not a lack of inspiration--there's plenty of that. And it's not that we don't realize prayer is important--we know it is. So, what's the issue? Pastor Chris Hodges has spent years studying the prayers of the Bible and the models of prayer that the scriptures provide for Christians. Now, he shares the teachings and methods he's used to successfully help hundreds of thousands of people understand how to spend time in conversation with God--and enjoy every minute. Pray First will give you the tools you need to: Bring the joy back into your time with God Take a journey through the prayers of the Bible, which reveal how to make prayer more personal and powerful Learn about fasting, an often overlooked but powerful discipline that's a vital companion to prayer Follow proven, biblically grounded methods for making prayer a priority, not an afterthought Written in the personable, relatable, and always biblically based style that has become Hodges's hallmark, Pray First is a revolutionary how-to manual for anyone seeking a more dynamic, intimate prayer life with God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have discovered that there is a serious misunderstanding when it comes to prayer. I had an awakening that it was much, much more than what I had been led to believe. I received a challenge around the middle of the year of our Lord 1999 from a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church named Djuana Jackson Tomlin who, at the time, was wrestling on how to pray effectively. She came to me as her pastor and asked, Will you teach us about prayer? I somewhat ignored her and said within my spirit, Everybody know how to pray. All she needed to do is get on her knees at night before she goes to bed and pray. That was my understanding because that was the way I was brought up, as a child. My parent taught me before I went to bed to say my prayers. I would pray, Lord, lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. Now bless Mama and bless Daddy, amen. Evidently she had been doing that and more, but she was still unfulfilled. So she just kept on troubling me with the question, When are you going to teach us how to pray? This went on for some four to five months. Upon her persistence to be taught on prayer, a study of teaching on prayer began in December 1999 on the topic of What is Prayer and the preaching on prayer began in January 2000 with a seven-part series of sermons entitled Barriers to Answered Prayer. The Holy Spirit continued to inspire sermons on prayer for ten months. The teachings on prayer continued for better than eleven months. What God revealed to me concerning prayer revolutionized my life.
