Book excerpt: The Power of Hope Revealed is a book to empower and strengthen anyone who has faced tremendous hardship. This book will inspire and motivate you to allow the Seed of Hope to resurrect what seems to be dead on the inside of you. Hope is a weapon of defense against discouragement and weariness. It is the path to restore your faith to believe in the promises of God. We can all relate to a near death experience where we can say we didn't think we would make it. This book is about the Power of Hope being Revealed in You, through the Spirt of God to live again, to hope again. Your life is not over because of that circumstance, if it didn't kill you, it was full of purpose and destiny. God does not define you by your circumstances or by your mistakes, you are not your mistakes, your failures, or the negative words that others say about you. You are Who God Says You Are. This book is to strengthen what remains, and that is the part of you that God wants to use to bless someone else. The Power of Hope Revealed is about the Spirit of Hope resurrecting you from that dead situation; the very thing that caused hope to die in you. Let hope come alive so that you can walk in the power of hope so that the Hope of Glory will be revealed in you according to Genesis 1:26-28.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hope Revealed sets the record straight. Revelation is not as bizarre and vindictive as many have imagined. Its message is hopeful, not pessimistic, world-affirming, not world-denying, and thoroughly congruent with the biblical emphasis on love, reconciliation, and forgiveness. Revelation invites us to drink deeply from its metaphors of promise and warning, vision and blessing. While Revelation's method and theological conceptuality are relatively different from the rest of the New Testament, once they are appreciated in their own right, they contribute to make this book not only one of the finest literary works in the Christian canon, but also one of the greatest theological achievements of early Christianity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human history has been marked by the great number of people born into conditions of war, violence, oppression and social exclusion. But at the same time, this history has been shaped by the long struggle for human rights and the people who have committed themselves to the practices of solidarity and nonviolence. The Power of Hope: Thoughts on Peace and Human Rights in the Third Millennium is a dialogue between two high-profile activists and thinkers who discuss the concrete ways we can shift to a world that prioritises justice and human dignity. Adolfo Pérez Esquivel - Argentinian human rights activist and winner of the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize - played a vital role in resisting military dictatorship and was arrested and tortured under the Argentine militarist government. Daisaku Ikeda is a peacebuilder, Buddhist philosopher, educator, author and poet as well as being the founding president of Soka Gakkai International (SGI), the world's largest Buddhist lay organisation. Their dialogue intertwines their rich personal experiences in the struggle for human rights with wider reflections on how to make the Third Millennium the millennium of peace. The book combines rich accounts of Latin America under the brutality of the 1970s military regimes; insights from the Buddhist faith on the role of meditation for human rights activists; recognition of the crucial role of women in the practice of nonviolence; thoughts on international geopolitics and the legacies of Hiroshima; and discussion of the perilous role of globalisation in the loss of identities and ethical values.

Book excerpt: If we as a nation invested the money and time necessary to give every trauma-exposed child a cheerleader, we would empty our prisons and mental health facilities within two generations. We would dramatically reduce intimate partner violence and see stunning drops in crime rates across all categories. We have the resources and we know what to do. It is only a question of our priorities and commitment. Cheering for the Children is a clarion call to all caring people to become cheerleaders for children exposed to trauma and abuse. Author Casey Gwinn, former elected San Diego city attorney and a leading domestic violence professional, explains why childhood trauma should be the preeminent public health issue in America today and how we can all help change the lives of children for the better. In this compelling and well-documented book, Gwinn maps out the massive costs and lifelong consequences of unaddressed childhood trauma through the internationally recognized Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study and other critical research. Then, using his own personal journey through trauma, lessons learned from leading experts across the country, and poignant real-life anecdotes from survivors, he provides the big strategies and small, practical steps that every parent, grandparent, mentor, caring community member, and policymaker can take to make a difference in the lives of their own children and the hurting children of America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible resounds with affirmations of the faithfulness and trustworthiness of God. But might God also exhibit faith and trust? Standing in the tradition of theologians such as John Sanders, who argued that God is one who risks, Wm. Curtis Holtzen contends that God is not merely trustworthy or faithful, but that God is also one who trusts and has faith. According to Holtzen, because God is a being of relational love and exists in relationship with humans, who can freely choose to follow God, then God is a God who trusts. Such an argument might challenge our notion of who God is, yet Holtzen argues that understanding the relationship between divine trust and human faith can give us a fuller, truer picture of who God is and who we are.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why hope matters as a metric of economic and social well-being In a society marked by extreme inequality of income and opportunity, why should economists care about how people feel? The truth is that feelings of well-being are critical metrics that predict future life outcomes. In this timely and innovative account, economist Carol Graham argues for the importance of hope—little studied in economics at present—as an independent dimension of well-being. Given America’s current mental health crisis, thrown into stark relief by COVID, hope may be the most important measure of well-being, and researchers are tracking trends in hope as a key factor in understanding the rising numbers of “deaths of despair” and premature mortality. Graham, an authority on the study of well-being, points to empirical evidence demonstrating that hope can improve people’s life outcomes and that despair can destroy them. These findings, she argues, merit deeper exploration. Graham discusses the potential of novel well-being metrics as tracking indicators of despair, reports on new surveys of hope among low-income adolescents, and considers the implications of the results for the futures of these young adults. Graham asks how and why the wealthiest country in the world has such despair. What are we missing? She argues that public policy problems—from joblessness and labor force dropout to the lack of affordable health care and inadequate public education—can’t be solved without hope. Drawing on research in well-being and other disciplines, Graham describes strategies for restoring hope in populations where it has been lost. The need to address despair, and to restore hope, is critical to America’s future.
