It comprises a l,825,000-acre block surrounding Park Falls (figure with boundaries drawn along township lines to facilitate the use of existing data. Farts of Price, Sawyer, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron Counties are included. It is believed that timber imports and exports balance quite closely in this area, the experts consisting of aspen saw timber and pulpwood, and the imports of coniferous pulpwood and large hard wood veneer and sawlogs. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On the Forestry Conditions: Northern Wisconsin Ever since assuming charge of the Division the writer has contended that the primary requisite for Government activity on behalf of for estry was a tolerably accurate knowledge of the forest conditions and forestry interests of the country but he was met with the objection that it would be improper policy to do for one State what every other State might with equal right demand to have done for it, and at the same time the means placed at his disposal were never sufficient to permit him to acquire this information with any satisfactory degree of accuracy for the whole country at once. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Taxation of Forest Lands in Wisconsin On the initiative of the Wisconsin State Board of Forestry, the Forest Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in April, 1910, entered into a co-operative agreement by the terms of which it was to undertake a study of forest conditions in the State of Wisconsin. The main purpose of the study was to determine the extent of the bur den now carried by timberlands as a result of the present methods of taxation, and What influence, if any, such methods of taxation have or will have on the practice of forestry by private owners. Especial thanks are due the State Forester and also the State Tax Commis sion for the valuable assistance given throughout the course of the study. That the perpetuation of this country's forests, and their manage ment along conservative lines, is an object of grave concern to the nation and to individual states, and a proper subject of legislation, all admit. Nor will it be denied by those having a proper regard for the future, that the time has arrived when affirmative action must be taken if this end is to be attained. Every day of delay lessens the chance of success. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wisconsin's 1968 Timber Resource: A Perspective The third Wisconsin Forest Survey was part of the continuing program authorized by Congress in the mcsweeney-mcnary Forest Research Act of 1928 to maintain a current inventory of the Nation's timber supply. The survey was organized and conducted jointly by the North Central Forest Experiment Station and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Each agency completed the aerial photo interpretation and field work for approximately half of the State. All work was done under the broad guidelines of the Department of Natural Resources Forest Advisory Council, a group composed of many public and private foresters within the State. The Eastern Region of the usda Forest Service provided timber resource data for the two National Forests in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Highways, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service all provided aerial photographs used in the survey. The following persons assisted in the Wisconsin survey: North Central Forest Experiment Station, Forest Survey Project.
