Book excerpt: Pinnacle City is many things to many people. To some it is a glittering metropolis, a symbol of prosperity watched over by the all-star superhero team, the Pinnacle City Guardians. Beyond the glitz and glamour, there is another city, one still feeling the physical and economic damage of the superhero-villain battles of generations past. The lower class, immigrants, criminals, aliens, sorcerers, and non-humans alike call this city home, looking to make a living, which is becoming increasingly difficult as the two sides of the city seem prepared to boil over into a violent conflict. Private investigator Eddie Enriquez, born with the ability to read the histories of objects by touch, still bears the scars of his time as a youthful minion for a low-level supervillain, followed by stints in prison and the military. Though now trying to live a straight-and-narrow life, he supports a drinking problem and painkiller addiction by using his powers to track down insurance cheats. When a mysterious woman enters his office asking him to investigate the death of prominent non-human rights activist Quentin Julian, a crime the police and heroes are ignoring, he takes the case in the hopes of doing something good. Superhero Kimberly Kline has just hit it big, graduating from her team of young heroes to the Pinnacle City Guardians with the new codename of Solar Flare. With good looks, powers that include flight, energy manipulation, superhuman strength, durability, and speed, as well as a good family name, the sky is the limit for her. Upbeat, optimistic, and perhaps a little naïve from the upper-crust life she was raised in, she hopes to make her family, and the world, proud by being the greatest superhero she can be . . . but things aren't always as they seem.

Book excerpt: "Bingaman returns to his Iowa roots in this collection of anecdotes, reminiscences, and close calls among fighter pilots and their peers. Recounting first his time in England as an American airman in a NATO squadron, the narrative covers his time in Oregon, the Midwest and Vietnam, detailing the operations -- particularly the idiosyncrasies and frustrations -- of military programs and the officers that oversaw them. In the Cold War shadows cast by Eisenhower and Khrushchev, Bingaman changes locations multiple times, taking his family with him. In Vietnam, as the war unfolds, he finds himself caught between the dangerous requirements of his occupation and an American bureaucracy with strenuous demands but too little regard for the human costs. A careful combination of career savvy and compassion helps Bingaman keep his wits sharp as friends disappear around him and the political situation grows thornier; he manages to survive a war he judged to be 'a complete misfortune' and in which the White House wasted arms, effort and men"--Back cover.

Book excerpt: Enter the mind of secluded depth, a place where words are formed from tears and anger. Venture into the second chapter, and no longer be a stranger, but a comrade in the path of passion. Journey into the mind of a man, become his eyes and visualize all which are detrimental in life. Ponder along and witness how sorrow, fear, and rage collide into hope, ambition, and love; intertwine with passages of spiritual ode, as they are told - this is the pinnacle, listen, and hear the echo: I write what my eyes cry. I write what my mind believes. I write what my heart beats. This is me. Let me breathe.

Book excerpt: As Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc battle it out head-to-head in the most hotly contested championship in years, this in-depth book, with a foreword from Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, tells the story of how the sport evolved into the exhilarating high octane spectacle it is today. The new rules introduced in 2022 signal the greatest change to F1 in a generation, cracking the field wide open and seeing some of the most compelling and competitive races in the last 25 years. Technical changes aimed at levelling the playing field for the teams combined with the sport’s tightening budget cap have made the races closer than ever. There will be more sprint races – trialled in 2021 – and greater fan interest driven by Netflix’s hugely successful ‘Drive to Survive’ series. So, how did we get here? How did F1 become the acknowledged ‘Pinnacle of Motorsport’? Simon Arron and Tony Dodgins have identified the 100 most significant changes to the series since its inception in 1950. Formula One is unrecognizable from its debut season, where drivers raced around on old bomber training aerodrome in Northamptonshire with oil drums to mark the corners and straw bales the only concession to safety. New fans will welcome a complete and highly illustrated guide to the history of F1, while older fans will be able to compare their own views of what were the pivotal moments of change, in a book written by experienced motoring writers with two lifetimes worth of knowledge of the sport. The book will link technical progress with the personalities involved, indeed many of the swiftest changes have come about as a result of accidents or tragedies – the death of Roland Ratzenberger at Imola in 1994, the same weekend as Ayrton Senna, could have been avoided by the HANS safety device. The introduction of the halo saved Romain Grosjean’s life in Bahrain last year, but only came about because of the tragic accident that claimed Jules Bianchi in Japan. Along with changes to circuits and the technology of the cars, this book highlights the commercial changes and the controversies that threatened to split the sport apart - such as the threat of breakaway series proposed at various times by teams. A must-read for completists or for those new to the sport, F1: The Pinnacle is a fascinating insight into one of the most exciting and dangerous sports in the world.

Book excerpt: What Good Thing Must I Do to Enter Into Eternal Life? Almost 2,000 years ago, a rich younger ruler asked the Messiah this question. Messiah's response was revolutionary. He simply commanded the young ruler to go onto perfection. This verse and countless others prove this statement - perfection is the only manner in which we will enter into eternal life. From this reality evolves 2 central questions: 1. What does it mean to be perfect? 2. How do we achieve perfection? Quite simply, perfection is measured by our success at executing the will of the Father. We are only able to do so by first achieving holiness. By analyzing the 16 primary degrees of holiness, we will understand every facet of perfection, as well as deduce the correlation between all the principle components of scriptural theology. For example, what are your views on sin? Do you know that sinners can not inherit eternal life? Do you know that the Holy Spirit gives us power to make a clean break from both sin and our sinful nature? Furthermore, have you ever considered the lack of miracles, healing, signs, and wonders in our world? The Gospel is filled with them, although only a handful of believers wrought these works. As for us, we have millions of believers worldwide and still aren't doing a fraction of their works. Needless to say, the church circuit is filled with many spiritual deficits that will only begin to be resolved when each member fulfills the Greater Commission and goes on to perfection. In this book, I will address many of these deficits and show how they are only resolved by holiness. By the end of it, you will be prepared to set your foot upon the path to perfection and become heir to eternal life.

Book excerpt: Never before have so many had the opportunity to achieve their potential. In this groundbreaking presentation, Scanlan offers an arresting analysis of coaching and suggests that, without a thorough understanding of personal growth, and a commitment to their own growth, a coach's capacity to add value will be limited. Indeed, he posits that, in the absence of these, a coach will likely collude with their clients as they repeat old patterns with a new look. To move to our full potential we need to open ourselves to a process of transformation, perennial in its nature but needing culturally relevant expression. Scanlan suggests that whilst this process is not for the faint-hearted, it will strengthen us emotionally and prepare us for incremental steps of challenge and empowerment. This book will invite you to open new doors to your consciousness and to new understandings of your potential. It will invite you to move closer to the gift of who you really are - to aim for the pinnacle of your humanity

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reasons for me writing this book are many. One of the main reasons is that too many of my friends have died due to people not paying attention to what they were doing. In the process, my friends died young and never had a chance to live their lives fully. Life isn’t something you should put on the back burner, for life is too precious to miss anything. The hope for my first short story is to stop most, if not all of these accidents from happening so people never have to die out of their on foolishness. The other reason is about the second short story. A lot of my friends including me wanted to give up when life knocked us down. The thing none of us realized at the time was, if we did give up then the darkness finally consumed us and we lost. We didn’t do anything stupid because we had our families and each other to push us through our hard times. My hope for this short story is for everyone to learn is that you should never give up when life is hard. Don’t let it knock you down into oblivion. Get back up and fight off these blankets of darkness that threaten to engulf us. Thank you for reading. God bless.
