Book excerpt: Unfortunately, very few people these days talk about real values in life. What we stand for in life, and are we living up to these values are worth pondering. Are our aspirations in tune with the real purpose of life? It is the values that remind us often what to aspire in life. Most people value life and its achievements from the perspective of wealth and richness, but do not recognize trust, honesty, and contentment as forward looking attributes that help in overall satisfaction. Giving importance to external growth leaving behind inner development often leads to unbalance in life devoid of overall satisfaction. Much of the troubles in this world are that true values of life have narrowed down, skewed, ignored and misunderstood. This book deliberates different aspects of life in terms of personal, moral, spiritual, family and social values and how these can enrich life and fill its purpose. A wide range of topics include How to live an easier life; Thoughts on simplifying life; Virtues of Integrity; Mistakes we generally make; Control on impulsive mind; Being Successful in life; Benefits from silence; Communication with inner self; Creating love for others; How to think positive; How moral values get reinforced; Belief in natural justice; What is spirituality; Understanding self; How to find God; What does death mean to us; Good family values; Being part of whole universe; Universal brotherhood; Towards developing good values. Attempt has been made to describe large issues that are outcome of misdirected value system, and how best a person can move ahead in life by focusing on core values. The idea of writing this book is to facilitate readers to pause and think about what they aspire, and are these aspirations in tandem with broad purpose in life.

Book excerpt: No matter how many friends and relative we have and how much they love us, when we die, either in the hospital or at home, although they hold our hands or grasp our feet, we can’t take them with us. We have to proceed completely alone, like a hair taken out of the butter. Therefore, regardless of the size of our entourage, and the numbers of servants, relatives and friends we may have, at the time of death none of them can help. We will have to leave behind even our body that we have cherished so much and even our body at the end will deceive us. Only the mind, with grief and sadness, will have to proceed to the bardo. We then come to the conclusion that the only thing that matters is our Dharma practice. The teaching contained in this booklet was given by Denma Lochö Rinpoche at his Dharamsala’s residence between July 20 and July 26, 2009 at the request of a small group of Italian disciples who travelled purposely to Dharamsala. It is a commentary on the Lamrim text composed by Panchen Losang Chögyan (pan chen blo bzang chos rgyan 1567-1662) and called De-lam (The Simple Path).

Book Synopsis Duty, Virtue and Practical Reason in Kant's Metaphysics of Morals by : Vicente De Haro Romo
Download or read book Duty, Virtue and Practical Reason in Kant's Metaphysics of Morals written by Vicente De Haro Romo and published by Georg Olms Verlag. This book was released on 2015-08-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “Metaphysical Principles of the Doctrine of Virtue” (Metaphysische Anfangsgründe der Tugendlehre) is the second part of the “Metaphysics of Morals” (Metaphysik der Sitten), published by Kant in 1797. This monographic study comments Kant´s Tugendlehre as a refutation of the “formalist” vision of Kant´s Ethics. This late writing is shown as consistent with the moral philosophy already presented in the “Groundwork” and the second “Critique”. The “Doctrine of Virtue” offers Kant´s application of the categorical imperative and acknowledges the conditions of moral motivation and, in general, of human agency. Kant´s derivation of duties of virtue (Tugendpflichten) is attentive to the fundamental characteristics of human nature, therefore it generates a system of ends that reason itself shows to be obligatory for the human faculty of choice. This book shows that Kant´s “Doctrine of Virtue” is worthy of being taken into a greater philosophical consideration. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BLURB ‘Kayinath’, meaning ‘Universe’ a collection of excellent Urdu poetry written by Professor Ghulam Hussain Daleel, is based on Sufism, which believes in the philosophy of ‘Unity of Creations’ and this expounds that there cannot be any difference between one group of mankind and another. The criterion that should govern the relationship among human beings is ‘love’ and there should be no place for any hatred or discrimination. This book authored by his daughter, Ms. Razia Begum Abdul Azeez, is a translation and exhaustive commentary on ‘Kayinath’. It was written to decipher the intellectually rich and spiritually pristine piece of her father’s magnum opus, into comprehendible message for the benefit of humanity. This book has deep rooted Sufi Philosophy and Islamic Spiritualism which the erudite author Ms. Razia Begum has prudently thrown light on, citing relevant reference from the Holy Quran and sayings of Prophet Mohammed ( peace be upon him).
Download or read book Back to Virtue written by Peter Kreeft and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2009-10-27 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We have reduced all virtues to one: being nice. And, we measure Jesus by our standard instead of measuring our standard by Him." For the Christian, explains author Peter Kreeft, being virtuous is not a means to the end of pleasure, comfort and happiness. Virtue, he reminds us, is a word that means "manly strength." But how do we know when we are being meek--or just cowardly? When is our anger righteous--and when is it a sin? What is the difference between being virtuous--and merely ethical? Back to Virtue clears up these and countless other questions that beset Christians today. Kreeft not only summarizes scriptural and theological wisdom on leading a holy life, he contrasts Christian virtue with other ethical systems. He applies traditional moral theology to present-day dilemmas such as abortion and nuclear armament. Kreeft restores to us what was once common knowledge: the Seven Deadly Sins have an antidote in the Beatitudes. By setting up a close contrast between the two sets of behaviors, Kreeft offers proven guidance in the often bewildering process of discerning right from wrong as we move into the questionable mores of the twenty-first century. He provides a road map of virtue, a map for our earthly pilgrimage synthesized from the accumulated wisdom of centuries of Christians, from Paul and the early Church Fathers through C.S. Lewis.

Book Synopsis Fruits of the Spirit by : Riaan Engelbrecht
Download or read book Fruits of the Spirit written by Riaan Engelbrecht and published by Riaan Engelbrecht. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galatians 5 makes it clear what are the fruits of the Spirit, which include love, joy, peace and self-control. Take note we are dealing here with the fruits of the Spirit, not our spirit. So we can only develop and carry such fruit when we allow God to abide and work in us. Therefore, we have to “live in the Spirit”, meaning walking in the Spirit who produces such fruit. This volume of work has been prompted for the simple reason that the church seems to be neglecting the need to equip disciples who reflect and manifest the character of God. We have become too obsessed with creating a feel-good Church, gifts, signs and wonders, yet ignoring the importance of character. It should be stressed we cannot generate such good fruits that produce moral and godly living on our own, therefore, we need to abide in God to bear much fruit. We need to earnestly cultivate a character that glorifies and exalts God, so that the world may know we are disciples of God because of the fruit we carry.
