Book excerpt: For many, peace is an elusive dream; true advances toward this communal goal have been few. But this book bursts through the barrier of apathy to show individual readers how they can actually help achieve world peace -- in just five years. By adopting "action through access", a trail-blazing approach to activism, the authors build on technological advances in both communication and collabora-tion to present a well-defined plan to end global conflict. By applying busi-ness disciplines, such as professional management and result measurement, to the peace-making process, Nathan Otto and Amber Lupton have ignited a revolution for global peace that will attract a broad range of peace seekers ready for immedi-ate action and real results. Otto and Lupton don't just offer theories and concepts. Through con-nections with world leaders, major corporations, leading peace activists, and international media, the authors have developed a broad market-ing platform for their peace program. And for readers who are ready to take responsibility for achieving peace, this is a beacon of hope in tumultuous times.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All men are created equal. Mankind must focus on peace among themselves on earth. Humble themselves in a way to treat each other with honor, dignity, respect and forgiveness. Pride is all belonging to God, God says, “pride is my dress and I do not allow anyone of you to share pride with me.” So, there is no diff erence between any race, color or religion in front of God. Human beings must unify themselves in one confederate to protect the good. Together we can recover and gain those who stray from God’s confederate. We should see all human beings as one family, one nati on under God to be a winner of the covenant of God and pray we all return to the promised paradise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violent conflicts today are complex and increasingly protracted, involving more nonstate groups and regional and international actors. It is estimated that by 2030—the horizon set by the international community for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—more than half of the world’s poor will be living in countries affected by high levels of violence. Information and communication technology, population movements, and climate change are also creating shared risks that must be managed at both national and international levels. Pathways for Peace is a joint United Nations†“World Bank Group study that originates from the conviction that the international community’s attention must urgently be refocused on prevention. A scaled-up system for preventive action would save between US$5 billion and US$70 billion per year, which could be reinvested in reducing poverty and improving the well-being of populations. The study aims to improve the way in which domestic development processes interact with security, diplomacy, mediation, and other efforts to prevent conflicts from becoming violent. It stresses the importance of grievances related to exclusion—from access to power, natural resources, security and justice, for example—that are at the root of many violent conflicts today. Based on a review of cases in which prevention has been successful, the study makes recommendations for countries facing emerging risks of violent conflict as well as for the international community. Development policies and programs must be a core part of preventive efforts; when risks are high or building up, inclusive solutions through dialogue, adapted macroeconomic policies, institutional reform, and redistributive policies are required. Inclusion is key, and preventive action needs to adopt a more people-centered approach that includes mainstreaming citizen engagement. Enhancing the participation of women and youth in decision making is fundamental to sustaining peace, as well as long-term policies to address the aspirations of women and young people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The momentous events of the past year have changed the political face of the globe: the ideological struggle that dominated the world for most of this century is over; erstwhile mortal enemies have become friends and partners. But old attitudes have survived and modern weapons are in abundance. New foci of conflict have emerged; military confrontations are taking place; the world is still in turmoil. The welcome deep cuts in nuclear weapons have still left thousands of warheads in the arsenals, and the spread of these weapons to new states would further increase the danger of a nuclear confrontation. The release of the pressure pent-up under oppressive regimes created a powerful drive for independence, often achieved only after bloody wars. Many of the new states are economically non-viable: poverty and famine are frequent adjuncts of independence. If military conflicts are to be avoided, a comprehensive strategy must be formulated to improve the standards of living in the developing countries and enhance their security. A strategy is also needed to protect the environment from the effects of further industrialization and greater use of energy. What is needed is a concept of a sustainable, equitable and liveable world for all its inhabitants. All these problems were analysed by scientists and scholars who met at a Pugwash Conference. The arguments used by them and the proposed solutions are presented in this book under six themes: World Peace; Nuclear Disarmament Issues; Arms Control; Security in the Asia-Pacific Region; Development Strategies and World Economic Order; Energy and the Environment.
