Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Homo sapiens sapiens met Canis lupus lupus millennia ago, the result was Canis lupus familiaris, the domestic dog. Since that fateful encounter, the dog has become, arguably, humankind’s greatest creation. The domestic dog is the most widely distributed species (other than ourselves) in the world, being found virtually wherever people live, and is also the most diversified of species, with literally hundreds of recognized breeds. While we have shaped the dog, it, too, has helped shape human history in innumerable ways. Our Debt to the Dog is a critical historical and cross-cultural examination, through the use of case studies, of this most improbable 15,000-year relationship and an exploration of how this relationship shaped the history of the world. It is also very much an apology to the dog because over the course of the partnership horrific acts were perpetrated against it intentionally and otherwise. Our Debt to the Dog enriches our understanding of the dog and extends our appreciation for the profound complexity of past and present human-canine relationships and the dog’s contributions to our lives and our world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s the mom-and-pop store that has become a national franchise. The most renowned player in school history grew up three blocks from the cozy campus, yet the program has grown into a perennial top 25 power with a coast-to-coast following—even if those casual fans still mangle the name. It’s Gonzaga University—"Gon-zag-a"—as in "Zags," the endearment that has overtaken "Bulldogs" as the school’s athletic ID. There are many Bulldogs, but only a few Zags. There are many Zags stories, however, and fans will find the essence of this college basketball phenomenon in Tales from the Gonzaga Bulldogs Locker Room. For readers who only know Gonzaga as the school that launched John Stockton toward the Basketball Hall of Fame and later rewrote the concept of being an NCAA Tournament Cinderella, this anecdotal anthology will fill in the blanks. The book focuses on a variety of names and events, like the "Tall Gaul"—seven-foot-three Frenchman Jean Claude Lefebvre; the year the Zags actually pulled their "sixth man" out of the stands; and Frank Burgess, the future judge who led the nation in scoring. These stories are all a part of the little-known legacy that led to the modern-day heroics of Dan Dickau, Richie Frahm, Blake Stepp, and many others. Fans will meet them all, along with numerous other unforgettable characters, in this reissue of Tales from the Gonzaga Bulldogs Locker Room. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for those of us who love Georgia Bulldogs Football and who cannot wait until our next win. There is no need to be impatient because as of 2022, Georgia is now at the top of the pack and the Bulldogs win big games all the time. Ask the others! In 2022, of course we all know, Georgia became the College Football Champions. The founding of the University was in 1785 and before Georgia eventually played its first football game, the first book was read at UGA right after Abraham Baldwin of the University of Georgia drafted legislation that became the charter of the university. Georgia student life moved quickly as the first student organization was founded as the Demosthenian Literary Society was founded. The first commencement was held with Josiah Miggs, President presiding in 1804. For its first 50 years the school was known as Franklin College. Soon after being established, Charles Herty got football going on campus in the fall of 1886 and UGA played its first intercollegiate football game. It took a while but in 1929, the school built its first stadium Sanford Stadium. The rest of the college football is not necessarily thrilled that Georgia became so good, so fast, and now they are recognized as the best team in the nation. Georgia won its first National Championship in 1942. In 1980, Georgia repeated its national championship with freshman Herschel Walker leading the way. The Bulldogs remained a national powerhouse with a lot of close calls to greatness until 2022 when it again won another National Championship with a coach who was a great Georgia graduate. Go Bulldogs! This book captures the whole great story of Georgia football. It takes the reader through stories about Georgia’s great immortal coaches and great players over the years. You will not be able to put this book down.

Book excerpt: Perhaps nowhere in America did three distinct and diverse cultures create such a colorful tapestry of the social fabric which forms the backdrop of this book. "Bulldogs Forever" is a history of a New Mexico school, Albuquerque High School, from its founding in 1879 to the author's graduation in 1954. The book effectively relates the reflections of teenagers from the waning pioneer days of the late 19th century to the Golden Era that followed World War II. The author, an outstanding athlete, relates how the team sports of football, basketball and baseball played a major role in the feeling of togetherness, belonging and accomplishment in a school of culturally diverse students. "Bulldogs Forever" pays tribute to teachers, coaches, teammates and students in a nostalgic look at high school life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the evolution of Mexican literary and cultural production following the Tlatelolco massacre, this book shows its progression from a homogeneous construct set on establishing the “true” history of Tlatelolco against the version of the State, to a more nuanced and complex series of historical narratives. The initial representations of the events of 1968 were essentially limited to that of the State and that of the Consejo Nacional de Huelga (National Strike Council) and only later incorporated novels and films. Juan J. Rojo examines the manner in which films, posters, testimonios, and the Memorial del 68 expanded the boundaries of those initial articulations to a more democratic representation of key participants in the student movement of 1968.
