Book excerpt: Solid-solution equilibria of marine evaporites are important in a wide range of science and technology. However, the data had not yet been summarized in a form that is at the same time comprehensive and permits to understand how the quinary seawater system builds up from its bounding systems. Thus the goal of the present volume is at the same time scientific and educational. The understanding of solid-solution equilibria of the various systems with respect to dissolution, precipitation and transformation of solids, their application to the evolution of brines, and a fast access to data is a necessary requirement for any modelling, especially in Geoscience. Another goal is to show the avail ability of data. Unfortunately, though solubility data are numereous there are substantial gaps, especially with respect to high temperatures. But also up to about 100 0 C data are missing for some of the systems so that they cannot be described entirely. Based on the present volume further work on the solubili ties of the minerals of marine evaporites may be promoted. The data have been viewed and collected over several years by the first author. The second author entered the preparation of the volume when it was realized that besides graphics and tables a fast access to data was required. Although both authors are responsible for the whole volume, responsibility is weighted somewhat differently for the various parts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas is the first one in the field of vibrational spectroscopy of polyatomic molecules. It is divided into two paragraphs. The first deals with the theory of vibrational spectroscopy in a concise form and considers the most important spectroscopical parameters — frequencies, bandshape and intensities. The second paragraph is dedicated to the infrared (2000-400 cm-1), far infrared (400-40 cm-1) and Raman (2000-10 cm-1) spectra of about hundred different mesomorphic materials with various molecular structure. The polarized IR spectra of the most important liquid crystals is also included. In the second paragraph the assignment of the IR bands to the corresponding intramolecular vibrations is also reported. Almost all spectra is registrated and analysed for the first time. The major important features are: 1. Registration and analysis (for the first time) of vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules with mesomorphic phases; 2. Registration (for the first time) of vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules with mesomorphic phase in polarized IR light. Polarized vibrational spectra are very important for clarification of the molecular structure; 3. Assignment (for the first time) of the IR bands of the most important liquid crystalline materials to the corresponding vibrations.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, a complete calculation of all 288 polarization observables of deuteron photodisintegration for polarized photons and an oriented deuteron target is presented for energies below +-production threshold. The observables are calculated within a nonrelativistic framework but with inclusion of lowest-order relativistic effects. Explicit meson exchange currents and isobar configurations as manifestation of subnuclear degrees of freedom are included in the calculation. The sensitivity of the various polarization observables with respect to subnuclear degrees of freedom, to electric and magnetic multipole contributions and to a variety of realistic potential models are systematically investigated. Thus this atlas provides the most detailed and systematic survey on polarization observables of this important process. It allows to analyse the different dynamical properties of the np-system as contained in the various observables and, therefore, will be useful for both theoretical studies and for the planning and evaluation of experiments as well. It serves in addition as an important supplement to the recent general review on deuteron photodisintegration by A. Arenhövel and M. Sanzone (Few-Body Systems, Suppl. 3).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics and Chemistry of the Solar System focuses on planetary physics and chemistry. This book consists of 12 chapters. Chapters I to IV cover the general properties and environment of the planetary system. The solar system beyond Mars is elaborated in Chapters V to VIII, while the inner solar system is considered in Chapters XI to XII. In these chapters, this compilation specifically discusses the limitations on big bang nucleosynthesis; structure and classification of galaxies; and mass and angular momentum distribution. The radio wave propagation in space plasmas; interiors of Jupiter and Saturn; density and composition of icy satellites; and evaporation and non-gravitational forces are also deliberated. This text also explains the physical properties of meteorites; geology of the Moon; geophysical data on Mars; and search for extraterrestrial intelligence. This publication is a good reference for first-year graduate students who intend to take graduate courses in specialized areas of planetary sciences, as well as practicing Ph.D. scientists with training in physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, meteorology, and biology.
