This one-volume commentary was specifically requested by seminaries in the United Methodist Church who have agreed to coordinate or standardize the curriculum for the Local Pastors' Schools. Attendees of the Local Pastors' School are trained, over a five-year period, to serve in thousands of small churches. The seminaries have determined that one part of the curriculum is to be a New Interpreter's Bible line of books: these include the Study Bible (already published), a One-volume Commentary (recently published), and an Atlas (to be proposed). Presbyterians and Baptists also have bi-vocational pastors who use similar tools, so that these groups will benefit from the development of this New Interpreter's Bible One-Volume Commentary. Old Testament Editor: Dr. David L. Petersen, Professor of Old Testament Professor Petersen is a distinguished Old Testament scholar. His current research focuses on the book of Genesis and on prophetic literature. During 2004, Petersen served as president of the Society of Biblical Literature. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Dr. Petersen has written, coauthored, or coedited a number of scholarly and popular books and articles. He was the senior Old Testament editor for The New Interpreter's Bible.
