Download or read book The Quality and Outcomes Framework written by Stephen Gillam and published by Radcliffe Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Quality and Outcomes Framework has deeply divided UK general practitioners. I commend this book and applaud its determination to scrutinise every aspect of the Quality and Outcomes Framework - good and bad and in-between. - From the Foreword by Iona Heath General practice in the UK faces transformation following the introduction of the Quality & Outcomes Framework (QOF), a pay-for-performance scheme unprecedented in the NHS, and the most comprehensive scheme of its kind in the world. Champions claim the QOF advances the quality of primary care; detractors fear the end of general practice as we know it. The introduction of the QOF provides a unique opportunity for research, analysis and reflection. This book is the first comprehensive analysis of the impact of the QOF, examining the claims and counter-claims in depth through the experience of those delivering QOF, comparisons with other countries, and analysis of the wealth of research evidence emerging. Assessments of the true impact of QOF will influence the development of health services in the UK and beyond. This book is essential reading for anyone with an interest in the future of general practice and primary care, including health professionals, trainers, students, MRCGP candidates and researchers, managers, and policy-makers and shapers.
Book Synopsis Will the New GP Contract Lead to Cost Effective Medical Practice? by : Tony Scott
Download or read book Will the New GP Contract Lead to Cost Effective Medical Practice? written by Tony Scott and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to April 1st 1990 the general practitioners' contract was defined only in general terms. However, since that date the range of services provided by GPs has been more formally defined. The main aim of the new contract was to confirm formally general practice as the ideal setting for the prevention of illness and promotion of health. Various health prevention and promotion activities, most in the form of screening, have therefore been written into the new terms of service. The core of the contract is the result of public demands and political popularity, rather than as a result of careful clinical and economic evaluation. The setting of priorities in primary health care should be related to the evaluation of relative cost effectiveness of different GP activities. This paper examines the evidence concerning the cost effectiveness of each core contract proposal and will examine the main factors affecting: 1) the assessment of priorities within each proposal, and 2) the assessment of priorities between each proposal.

You might have been informally mentored by one of the older colleagues; learning management and business skills gradually. It is no longer like this. The market has changed, the range of options is wider, and the way through the labyrinth is far from clear. You might find yourself confused and overwhelmed by all the new opportunities, possibilities and prospects. This book helps to clarify uncertainties and guide you towards the right path. It offers ways to formulate strategies when planning your career and maps out the landscape of general practice, enabling you to make, confident and informed decisions about your professional future. Supporting the initiative of First5(R), The New GP's Handbook is highly recommended for newly qualified GPs who will find it answers so many of their questions and helps make the first five years (and beyond) in general practice more understandable, productive and enjoyable. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Politics of the NHS has become established over a quarter century and five editions as the key overview of the NHS and its processes and paths of influence. This latest edition remains a clear, easy-to-read guide to often complex debates. It encompasses both the background of the evolution of the NHS since its foundation, and a completely up-to-date picture of its present and future in a more pluralistic - and possibly more financially austere - era in which deference to medical expertise is eroding and information on health and care is far more widely available. Assuming no prior knowledge of NHS politics and systems, The New Politics of the NHS focuses on management, structure, centralisation, funding, economic performance, challenges, current party political debates, interest groups and rationing, and also on the NHS's institutional and cultural continuity as a tax-funded service providing comprehensive, universal healthcare free at the point of delivery. It is a vital update for all healthcare professionals, NHS managers, policy makers and shapers, and those in special interest groups including patient advocacy organisations. From reviews of previous editions: ' A valuable insight into the discussions and decisions that determine such an important aspect of our daily life.' CANCER CARE NEWS
